BUFORD ROGERS IS NOT A TERRORIST BUT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO CONSERVATIVES HAD HE NOT BEEN WHITE

This is because Buford Rogers was caught before he could commit acts that would have certainly been deemed terroristic. Had they been committed by anyone with connections to a foreign group, a religion other than Christianity and been non white. From the interview done with Buford Rogers’ parents, We, Ourselves of the Collective clearly have the Federal Bureau of Investigation to thank for keeping this domestic and local grudge from becoming something much more serious and deadly. Many conservative forums and blogs are making light of this arrest. The Meditators find this both amusing and shocking.

Consider this scenario; a man is caught in a home with pressure cookers and black powder and nails and ball bearings and a tip leads to the FBI arresting him and his brother days before the Boston Marathon. After the holiday the media report the findings of local, state and Federal law enforcement. The plot to bomb the race and to carry out further attacks in New York City has been thwarted. Now is this person a potential terrorist based on what the police and the FBI suspect he could have done had he completed his bombs? Does it really matter if the person is an adherent to Islam from Dagestan or the product of poor white trash in western Minnesota?

The crime that will likely not stick against Buford Rogers is the possession of a firearm by a felon charge. It is alleged that Rogers had a Romanian AKM rifle and other firearms based upon his fingerprints being on them. Jeff Rogers, the father of Buford, says that his son only cleaned the weapons. What would the NRA say about a legal gun owner allowing a relative who is known felon who legally is barred from possessing a firearm easy access to them? Is this not one of the gaping loopholes in gun ownership regulation in America; the sales between relatives many times done after straw purchases?

Margaret Rogers a woman identified only as being married to Jeff Rogers said there were no pipe bombs in the home but the FBI stated the pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails were found in the shed with other potential weapons. Conservative blogs have already picked up on the words of this woman which echo terribly similarly to those by Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s mother which claim Buford is not a terrorist and that there was nothing found in the home. The reaction of the Rogers family and those that knew Buford Rogers run parallel to the sort of things that were said about the Boston Marathon bombers. Rogers even has a younger brother who can be seen in the picture above wearing camouflage and standing next to a poster which could be used for an anti-illiteracy campaign.

The words of Jeff Rogers are clear and to the point for all to see, “Bucky is not a terrorist. He is not out to bomb anyone. He’s a patriot like we all should be.” The Collective knows and understands exactly who the “we’ Jeff Rogers refers to in this quote. Rogers and his sons were members of a minor group of patriots in Minnesota known as the Black Snake Militia. The BSM has ties to the Southern Brotherhood Milita whose stated goals are [Emphasis Ours}:

"We oppose the United Nations , NATO and the Powers-That-Be, we are against the Federal Secular Humanists that run our Anti-Christian / Anti-God Government. We oppose Abortionists, CFR, the International Bankers ( Banks ) and Corporations. We oppose all meddling beauracratic [sic] entities.

We are anti-conformists and believe people should show absolute respect for the diverse differences in beliefs, ideas and character of others.

Our foremost objective is to establish a Theocracy .

We employ a social tribal order, to maintain our laws and see to the social welfare of our people.

Our purpose is to stand against all evil and utterly destroy the perpetrators of evil.”

And now this becomes, yet again, a matter for the Laal Hethri. The beliefs of many groups like the BSM and the SBM are the beliefs of the rank and file of the TEA Party. When an adherent to Islam commits such acts it is always terrorist when poor white theocrats plot to do similar things it is to conservatives simply a “local dispute” that got out of hand and the FBI has “overreacted.”

WHO TRULY PROFITS FROM AMERICA’S ILLS?

“Penn State shouldn’t have been given athletic sanctions by the NCAA for looking the other way during Jerry Sandusky’s repeated rape and abuse of young boys. If America were truly exceptional, the military should have been brought in and the entire county which worshipped at the altar of Joe Paterno would have been razed to the ground by all those leftover bunker busting bombs Bush bought for the Iraq war.”– Governor General Srindra Singh or Gilbesht in a debate about American exceptionalism with Sheol conservative MP Yancey Harrell on “Overdark” with Maarit Outi Pekkonen last night.

The idea of American exceptionalism is not a new meme. The thought that the people who now live on this land, once occupied by the Human Beings; taken by violence in the name of profit, are more prosperous, more intelligent, cut from a more moral cloth and closer to the favor of their chosen Creator than any other has been clearly a concept of Faith for those who now call themselves “Conservatives” for the better part of the last one hundred twenty five Terran standard years. We, Ourselves, of the Collective and The Meditators have a problem with any such notion based simply on the statement expressed in the stripes of the flag above. One must begin to ask the questions of common men, the hoi polloi, and the oligarchs who now own your government and rule your media, “Who profits from this disaster?” and “What will be the spark that causes someone to give up their comfort in a revolution from which they may not reap a similar status to those they are fighting against?”

These are serious matters, not to be taken lightly as they were at Blogs4Victory just this past week. The conservatives there simply wanted to throw red meat at downtrodden aging white men who see their fathers have lost their birthright of unchecked bigotry in the last few decades and left them nothing more than the onanism of “being white is better than being black or brown” along with their Bibles to cling to in these desperate times. And, yes, We, Ourselves admit these are desperate times– for Conservatives. Not only is their ideology, their worldview dying, they are dying. For the moment there are a few million ardent young whites out there who shout just as loudly as the over 50 crowd about the “many ills of President Obama” but let Us be honest with Ourselves, these young men and women in their twenties aren’t in this politics game to bring back the Reagan years, roll back women’s reproductive rights or to solve America’s debt issues. They are seeking a pool of like minded people who given enough familiarity will allow them to get laid; something they wouldn’t do in a similar setting surrounded by more attractive more intelligent Progressives.

So who does profit from all of America’s ills? There are many who do profit some of these groups will shock you others are well known. All must give up something or the Union will be lost to time and to history.

Income inequality is clearly profited from by those who really run the country the oligarchs. Not just corporate CEOs but hedge fund managers, the boards of large law firms who write the laws and then pimp them to Congress and of course the religious oligarchs who are desperately trying to remain relevant in an age where technology is nearing its ability to make deities out of Men. And in the end this is nothing more than a clearly visceral reaction to the short duration of the human lifespan manifest in the form of greed for all things material.

Poverty has been used as a tool to keep the masses at bay since Time Immemorial. Poverty is profited from by the Church, the oligarchs and their corporate media. Poverty as an extension of bigotry feeds the furnace that drives the powerful to remain powerful. They do not care that a child is one day celebrating the reelection of America’s first Man of Color to the highest elected office and the next day a victim of gun violence. They do not care that children go hungry in the wealthiest nation on Terra as long as they are safe behind their gates and in their dens of luxury. Poverty is a prison sentence handed down by generations of greed and fear in the name of tribal purity.

An examination of these two ills shows how all the others are interconnected. It is time to drain their trough or America will be the soil where the seeds of failure of an entire species will be sown.

FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: WHEN IT COMES TO GUNS MANY AMERICANS CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH

I have taken some time to digest the blog post of noted documentarian Michael Moore of 24 December 2012, “Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns.” Moore makes a clear case of why there is so much gun violence in the United States and why a culture of gun worship makes it difficult to remove this cancer from American society. As Editor-in-Chief of this newspaper I support what Moore has written and feel compelled to off even more advice and explanation of why this situation, the collection of more guns than people in the United States, has gotten so far out of claw.

Moore cites Fear/Racism, Poverty and Selfishness as the reasons for so many guns being in the hands of Americans and he is spot on in this assessment. There is no doubt that “fear of others” also described by many social scientist here is Dis as “tribalism” is the root cause of the bulk of the problems in the culture and society of the United States of America. It has been said for more than two centuries as reckoned from Terra that multiculturalism would solve many of the quotidian societal problems in the nation and diversity would drive the need to keep the brown and black in poverty to the benefit of the white. Once again the root cause of the Newtown shooting massacre in its most raw and basic terms was the fear of losing material possessions or being harmed physically by a roving band of well armed “others.” Nancy Lanza was seeking to protect herself from rape/robbery/murder/home invasion because she saw an economic collapse coming in her feverish mind. Therefore she collected the materials she needed to defend herself from the “threat” she saw as imminent from a brown enemy she saw repeatedly in the media as a direct threat to her comfort and safety. Here’ I have to take the MSM to task in local communities form their constant drumbeat on television focusing on the criminal element among the United States’ 45 plus million black citizens.

While I would be remiss to ignore black crime, especially black gun violence, there must be a reflection upon why crime occurs and in what demographic it concentrates. As a demon journalist, I understand that many would posit that Nancy Lanza’s fear and her son Adam Lanza’s actions had nothing to do with their upper middle class lifestyle. To come to such a conclusion is the very definition of a Black Swan. Economic class is not always a leading indicator for gun violence but poverty does carry a far greater weight among minorities than it does among whites. One has to simply review the statistics for any calendar year in the modern era to see that black gun crime is generally restricted to those living just above or below the poverty line. The same statistics overlap for white gun crime making it clear that both the fact that the nation’s streets are awash in firearms and that too many have been left to poverty for the benefit of a false veneer of middle class white comfort, or, if I may go further, moral superiority. And here is the greatest of crimes because as Moore states, “If you don’t believe that, ask yourself this: If your neighbor has a job and is making $50,000/year, what are the chances he’s going to break into your home, shoot you and take your TV? Nil.” More work for those who are willing would make America a safer place simply by making consumers out of those who would fall into a criminal lifestyle. Many white conservatives would surely disagree with me on that point because now I would be guilt of the crime of socialism which to them means, “taking our stuff.”

And what exactly makes people worship stuff so much? I like many Human Beings here in Hell live a quite comfortable life knowing that my children are safe and secure, that I have a job which pays me well as does my mate and I live in a home that most living Americans would consider posh. However, here in Hell’s capital Dis, I do not require an arsenal of firearms and ammunition to keep my possessions safe. To be honest on many nights I forget to lock the front door. I have no fear of the Justice Force coming to my front door to have an inquiry about a weapon that I have owned, nor do I fear a relative that has lost their mind but not gotten the treatment he or she needs ending up on the news having blown away scores of innocent people. In the end despite the volume of references to myself in those statements recently written it is not about me anymore than it is about any of the selfish millions of Americans who think a gun is the answer to their potential fears or bigotries. Americans are exceptional in many ways just not in many of the ones in which they should be proud. I see the white conservatives [and the black conservatives who serve a lesser purpose than a remora serves a shark] in America decrying the desire of the Liberals in Congress wishing to limit the size of ammunition clips or remove assault weapons altogether while being among the first to invoke the religion of their second most worshiped deity to express consolation for the victims of yet another shooting massacre. It is high time that this violence come to and end and to do that a multigenerational effort to end the fear associated with bigotry in all its forms from all its sources, to end poverty and all its attendant causes and foremost to end the delusion that in a nation where a man can murder 26 innocent people in an elementary school that somehow it is their right to possess the very same weapons he used to commit this atrocity.

When a white conservative tells you that the Newtown shootings don’t compare to the level of black gun violence in the inner cities agree with this reply: “Then I feel as you do that all the guns need to be taken away and anyone caught with one should be subject to a long period of incarceration?”

FORGIVE CHARLOTTE ALLEN FOR SHE KNOWS NOT WHAT SHE’S TALKING ABOUT

We, Ourselves, of the Collective have been reading much of what Conservatives have been saying in response to a needed move toward gun control legislation in the wake of the Sandy Hook school massacre and We have found what We expected to find. No matter what the tragedy, the Right feels they have an earned privilege to possess firearms that goes far beyond what the United States Constitution actually intends. In this case even the murder of innocent children does not inspire Conservatives that the time has come for them to put aside the notion that their ability to maintain their unearned privilege must be protected at the barrel of a firearm. The Collective feels that America would be a far safer, prosperous and diverse place if these weapons were at least better controlled via deeper regulations mandated by the federal government. It is absolutely necessary to couple any weapons ban, ammunition ban or outright confiscation of firearms with a bold and far reaching program to address the mental health issues of all Americans who have not had their mental state evaluated.

Writing in the National Review Online, Charlotte Allen makes an abstract case for the root cause of the Newtown massacre –that the school was too “feminized.” Allen writes, “There was not a single adult male on the school premises when the shooting occurred. In this school of 450 students, a sizeable number of whom were undoubtedly 11- and 12-year-old boys (it was a K–6 school), all the personnel — the teachers, the principal, the assistant principal, the school psychologist, the “reading specialist” — were female. There didn’t even seem to be a male janitor to heave his bucket at Adam Lanza’s knees. Women and small children are sitting ducks for mass-murderers. The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, seemed to have performed bravely. According to reports, she activated the school’s public-address system and also lunged at Lanza, before he shot her to death. Some of the teachers managed to save all or some of their charges by rushing them into closets or bathrooms. But in general, a feminized setting is a setting in which helpless passivity is the norm. Male aggression can be a good thing, as in protecting the weak — but it has been forced out of the culture of elementary schools and the education schools that train their personnel. Think of what Sandy Hook might have been like if a couple of male teachers who had played high-school football, or even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys, had converged on Lanza.”

This is a statement of clear misunderstanding of foremost how situations involving shooters transpire and secondarily a blind disassociation from anything, and We, Ourselves, do mean anything, that would allow greater inspection of the Conservative values that guns and religion can cure any threat to their percieved moral hegemony and delusions of exceptionalism.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT

I took a well deserved, okay, forced, vacation after the election and now I’m back. The folks at Blogs4Victory are in a state of delusional grand mal rictus after the election defeat of Mitt Romney and I expected that much and worse. This is what I expected after proof that the far Right, the TEA Party element of States’ Rights Know Nothings, who will worship at the feet of Rush until the day they die, would be given proof at the polls that Mitt, despite being the whitest guy they could run, was in reality unelectable because he ran a schizophrenic and disjointed campaign. Romney had to cater to the bigoted far Right and appear to be a centrist at the same time. His disadvantage then wasn’t that he was simply politically out ground gamed by Obama he also was running as a candidate from two parties and neither one even if he got all the votes that they had would not represent a majority of the American electorate.

I responded to the above linked post at B4V with this to my dear friend in political argument Amazona a little while ago:

Amazona why don;t you explain to me why any of this matters to you? I’ve got a longer view of global history and of the future of America and it has been proven by this election as an extension of the election of 2008 that when conservatives allow themselves to show their true colors and speak their hearts they are exposed as a group that is antithetical to the ideals of American Freedom.
Yes Amazona I’m calling you a fascist but not because you secretly have an SS uniform in your closet. You would never admit being a fascist because being anything than a soldier loving American patriot cannot be tolerated in 2012 conservative America. And that’s the problem people like you that make up a full 40% of those who identify with the Republican Party who have cloaked themselves in the belief that States’ Rights are equivalent to want to “live by the values and laws as set forth in the Constitution” you have no idea how delusional and out of touch you really are. This may or not be ageist or even racist hell I don’t know but if you took the white lover 60 crowd out of the US by and large America would be the progressive prosperous nation that it deserves to be. Trust me Amazona this is no more harsh than the words of the man you voted for who wrote off 47% of the electorate in a speech that cost him any chance of being elected President.

So now angry at the Grim Reaper sharpening his scythe and even angrier that you calls to bigotry by the Koch Brothers have failed now you are going to ally yourselves with the most destructive elements in American business those CEOs who would ship their jobs overseas to save their personal lifestyles of lucre. Hell, I thought you guys were the ones who were on the side of the poor because of the religion thing? Man was I wrong! At least you live in a free enough country where you can rant and rave about crap that doesn’t mean anything [Hey when was the last time economic genius Mark Noonan wrote and article about bank failures or the collapse of the Chinese economy or . . ] in the great scheme of things. It’s gonna be a tough twenty years for you after the Democrats take back the House in 2014 and Hillary wins in 2016 and none of the doom and gloom predictions you love to make come true and America moves into another great age of prosperity.

In Hindsight

Amazona is a States Rights person of the ilk of those Southern governors of the 1940s though 60s who in the face of a changing America invoked their own race card. It’s a soft bigotry but a bigotry nevertheless. The good news is that as old and white as the conservative movement has become in the face of the browning of and the resurgence of the liberal electorate in America the time for her kind is growing short.

THE WORD THAT CONSERVATIVE BLOGGERS DARE NOT MENTION

Every morning I awake and trudge to the office at my flat here in the 71st arondissment of Dis and turn on my computer. My hour or so of research before I head Uptown to the main office begins with conservative blogs. Gateway Pundit, Breitbart, RedState, Fox Nation and the Blaze. occasionally, I visit Atlas Shrugged and Malkin if I’m feeling particularly frisky.

This morning was no different than any other in an election year; I am looking for trends in the speech of the opposition. If you hadn’t noticed I’m a social and economic Progressive. Gotcha politics is easy for people who don’t think; making connections in how the opposition speaks to the issues is like panning for gold. This morning I found a really big shiny nugget in my pan.

The US economy is not really winning any gold medals right now. I’m a firm believer in the policies of Barack Obama will bring the economy out of its sluggishness sometime in Q2 2014 as our in house economic expert Carl Pryor has been saying for nearly three years. Actually, Pryor has pushed his full recovery date [Pryor measures this with the rate of unemployment being below 6%] back from Q3 2015 a few months ago when Romney became the de facto GOP nominee noting, “There’s no way this man will win and this being the case the Affordable care Act is in no jeopardy.” This makes me wonder though. If I were running as the challenger to a man that’s presiding over a nation that is since 1946 been used to having a wasteful abundance but finds itself in a employment challenge recovery I would be hammering the incumbent on his failure to create jobs.

There’s a problem with this though. Mitt Romney is the candidate. A man, who to quote one of the least intelligent men on the Internet, Mark Edward Noonan, has never been in the business of “make, mine and grow.” Now this distributist belief of Mark Edward Noonan isn’t a tongue in cheek homage to penis enlargement ads it’s really a tenet of his brand of Roman Catholicism. Romney is a very wealthy man and despite this there are going to be millions of people in that 47% about which the candidate cares nothing that are going to give him their vote because they would do anything to deny President Barack Obama a second term. The real problem here is that Romney doesn’t have a voice that can clearly state what he would do to give Americans the jobs they crave and need.

The nugget I panned this morning is that across the conservative blogosphere on the front pages there are only two mentions of the US economy. Out of a biblical torrent of words and images only two, The Blaze and RedState mention the word. Conversely, here at the Dis Brimstone Daily Pitchfork there are four mentions. Why is this? Well fellow traveler I will tell you! Romney’s wealth is a burden on his campaign. I know the man is a generous giver to charity but the word economy makes people think about taxes and tax rates. America is no longer a nation with an expanding middle class. While this isn’t Mitt Romney’s fault it is the fault of people who worked in the shadows of capitalism to make money out of the investment game. Lower middle class Americans have voted in their minds already. They like ObamaCare as it has been dubbed even if they won’t tell a pollster on their tracFone that they do.

Even now, the lovely and talented Mika Brzezinski and the erudite Joe Scarborough are shaking their heads at Romney trying to lead a “Romney Ryan!” cheer at a campaign stop. No one was cheering back. That’s because it is known that Romney doesn’t see America as being populated with people; he’s a human resources guy not a human beings guy. He hasn’t had the humanizing experience of having to come up from poverty and live outside of the US as anything other than an America citizen of privilege. Barack Obama, like him or not has been blessed with the ability because of his upbringing to meet people and talk to them as a living breathing Human being with a Soul. Mitt Romney isn’t connecting because when he meets a person he’s assessing their value to him.

In Hindsight

That is my take on why conservative bloggers are staying away from the economy; Romney’s wealth makes him an easy target for things like taxes so they dare not go there. Romney’s Internet surrogates would rather do the 1950s all over again conflating the anti-West uprisings in the Middle East with some foreign policy failure on Obama’s part. The news flash for Breitbart et al is that the people who would point and scream at this are already in the Romney fold. There are still roughly 7% of voters who haven’t made up their mind and many of them are in places like Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia; states that Romney currently trails in and must win to achieve the Oval Office. If Romney doesn’t change his tack and stop pandering to the white male bigots who hate Obama not based on policy but based on his race he will not only cost himself the White House but possibly cost his party the Senate and put the House back in play. If Romney does tack to the center, he will become the 21st century incarnation of a Republican Walter Mondale. The GOP will fracture by 2014 into an establishment party and those who will blame the establishment for not running conservative enough candidates. In this case a three party system will become a one party state in two election cycles. Democrats will own the House in perpetuity after the recovery of 2014 because TEA Party politics will demand a harder shift to the Right and that is a recipe for disaster for the unicorn of American politics–the Republican moderate.

WHAT THE OREGON TEA PARTY TERRORIST BIGOTRY BUS TELLS US ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE

I’ve seen some really dumb things in my job here at The Dis Brimstone Daily Pitchfork in the past 15 years doing research and for a brief time serving as interim Editorial Page Editor. Nothing, and I do mean nothing compares to this:

Okay, put into its simplest terms anyone that would drive this thing around has some issues. There’s a lack of love in his or her life that can only be filled by fanatical religious belief. Lucky for this person they live in America where people just shake their heads or laugh rather than pulling the owner out and setting trailer on fire. That said I want to show you what love looks like as a counter point.

So conservative reader, how is your marriage suffering because these two people are in love and have committed to each other? It’s love despite what Mitt Romney says and it should be respected in marriage if they choose to commit to marriage. Ownership of the word marriage is the bunker where conservative bigotry is making its last stand against Freedom in America. Love is so clearly fundamental to everyone it seems other than fundamentalists and a few black preachers who are still scared of the gay.

In Hindsight

The Culture Wars, as I have said many times really ended in 1920 when women got the right to vote. Now no matter how many qurans Terry Jones burns, or how many rallies for the TEA Party the Koch Brothers have or how many stern letters Catholic Bishops send to the White House they have all been exposed as frauds and the people have decided that America isn’t a faux Christian nation but a secular Liberal/Progressive nation that assures even the most vile and odious right wing religous nuts have the right to freedom of speech.

RICK SANTORUM EXPLAINS IT ALL: “WE WILL NEVER HAVE THE MEDIA ON OUR SIDE, EVER, IN THIS COUNTRY. WE WILL NEVER HAVE THE ELITE SMART PEOPLE ON OUR SIDE, BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THEY HAVE THEY SHOULD HAVE THE POWER TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO.”

Rick Santorum speaking yesterday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., gave a curious insight into just who the powerbrokers on the Religious Right want their base to be. If taken directly in context, which is something the Right rarely does in regard to the sitting President of the United States, Mr. Santorum speaking to a largely white and boisterous crowd at the Omni Shoreham Hotel said this:

I don’t even know what kind of revolution we’re in right now. We seem to be creating dynamism in the marketplace like it’s never been seen. Why? Freedom. Freedom, not government dictates, not planners who are going to invest in solar energy companies and tell us what our future is going to be by some bureaucrat making those decisions. No. No, we’re going to trust you.

That’s why the media doesn’t go along with us. You have to understand that. They don’t like conservatism. They like the other side, not necessarily, I would argue, because they necessarily agree with them. It’s because they can influence the country more. You see, if just a few people make decisions about what this world looks like and what this country looks like, well, then you can have people sitting in offices in the major media outlets and in Hollywood who can – they can deal with a small group of people and influencing them, getting them to jump through the hoops they want to. It’s much harder if all of you collectively build America. It’s much harder to influence you.

We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite smart people on our side, because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do. So our colleges and universities, they’re not going to be on our side. The conservative movement will always be – and that’s why we founded Patriot Voices – the basic premise of America and American values will always be sustained through two institutions, the church and the family. (Applause.)

And so economic conservatism – libertarian types can say, oh, well, we don’t want to talk about the social issues. Without the church and the family, there is no conservative movement. There is no basic values in America in force, and there is no future for our country. (Applause.)

So it is our job in this election, it is our job, to go out and make a difference. It is our job to go out and talk to fellow believers. And I don’t mean Christians. I mean fellow believers in the American creed, fellow believers in those basic principles that built our country.

Go out and preach to them the American ethic. Preach to them what made us great. And remind them that that greatness does not lie in Washington, D.C. or in the hands of a president. It lies in each and every one of us and in our families.

I’m excited, because I think we have a nominee who understands that. I read – I didn’t see it, but I read the transcript of what Governor Romney said here. I could have given that speech. I feel good. I feel good. (Laughter, applause.) We have to do our part.

So I encourage each and every one of you to leave here energized. It is our watch. At the end of the Declaration of Independence, we all know those words. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are – excuse me. We know these words, that we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortune and our sacred honor.”

What we have here from Mr. Santorum is telling on many levels. Clearly, there is an us against them sort of dynamic going on but these sorts of rifts are created by the Left as well just not to so much of an extreme. Marshall McLuhan famously said in 1946 that “the medium is the message” and that is as true today in American politics as it ever was. Santorum makes the point, however, that anti-intellectualism and satisfaction with being economically middling should be coupled with a drone-like adherence to religious and social beliefs. That makes no sense when you cosider that Mitt Romney is an Ivy League educated man worth more than $250 million whose family will have inherited wealth for many more generations into the future. So here the dynamic is clear as well. Santorum uses his Theocratic beliefs which are similarly held by middle class conservative white voters throughout the rural North, the South and the Midwest, to build a bridge in the air between the class animux that should exist between an elite intellectual businessman who has desires to be the highest elected official in America and the hoi polloi of the Right.

The only problem is that the Religious Right have seen this movie before. They saw this with the election of George W Bush in 2000. In that election the race became a watershed both for businesses and for individuals that was about what the future direction of America would be; a path toward neconservatism, a curious amalgamation of social values and military might a global cop, or neoprogressivism where the environment and social safety net issues would finally get the treatment in the public sphere they deserve by way of making hard choices now to assure a better future for for the generations of Americans to come.

America did not, I feel, fail itself by electing George W Bush. That lesson needed to be learned by Conservatives and Liberals alike. That path took America to trillions of dollars wasted in Iraq for a victory that was not won because of a lies told to heat the blood of the same Americans that Santorum spoke to at the Values Voter Summit. In this race Mitt Romney, a man who inspires no one is not seeking to inspire anyone. He, like George W Bush, is willing to offer lip service to the far Right and the Religious Right to get their votes on 6 November 2012. Romney is not a “true believer” like Catholic Rick Santorum is. Romney needs “true believer” surrogates like Santorum to get out there and energize the base.

The Conservatives now are being told, by one of their pious masters, that they are mediocre and stupid to paraphrase Mr. Santorum. I will admit here that the GOP is depending on those with negative attitudes toward President Barack Obama to constitute the majority of their voter base. The average TEA Party voter in 2012 can quote chapter and verse the lies about welfare to work requirements, their theories about corruption of the Supreme Court in the Affordable Care Act decision and most recently their refusal to believe that Muslim take their religion so seriously that a film trailer could inspire violence on a regional scale and thereby conflating the tragedy of four dead diplomtic service workers including Ambassador J Christopher Stevens into the failure of the Carter administration in 1979.

To the delusional voters on the Right this morning the sitting president is the “other.” This belief changing before 6 November 2012 is as unlikely as MSNBC becoming a digital parrot of the Koch Brothers’ goals for America. Yet Barack Obama is the sitting President of the United States. Getting there was the easy part; keeping Obama in office is what will be difficult. I, personally, still believe that the President will be re-elected. The violence in the Middle East will be a campaign footnote before the first debate is held on 3 October 2012 in Denver, Colorado; the teacher’s strike in Chicago will likely end next week.

By this time next week, the American electorate will be talking about the striking differences between the Right and the Left. Their choices are defined clearly by what has been said about women’s health on both sides. Their choices have defined by the Right wishing to exert controls on a society that no longer looks as it did in the post World War 2 era. Santorum and the “true believers” want to go back to those days when women could not choose to have or not to have a child, to have birth control options. The Religious Right want to go back to a time when the electorate was dominated by middle class white men who feared religion and who had wives who voted as they were told by their husbands and fathers. Conservatives who are being duped yet again by Mitt Romney want the gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people of America to go back in the closet at best or be rounded up by the Sheriff Joe Arpaio types doing the same work of Bull Conner in the 1960s. This election is about being a Human Being who has a choice in charting one’s own path in freedom, vice being a cog in a religion actuated corporate profit driven machine where your only choice is to pray to someone else’s deity that the law will not find fault in your personal decision and come for you.

MITT ROMNEY IS A POLITICAL AMATEUR; PASTOR TERRY JONES AND SAM BACILE SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE

An Internet video little seen in the United States, but promoted by Qu’ran burning Pastor Terry Jones, which depicts the Prophet Muhammad [qcpn!] as a paedophile, has sparked widespread violence in North Africa. The violence in Benghazi, Libya has lead to the death of United States Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens in a rocket propelled grenade attack. Yesterday being 11 September, was a political press embargo day for both GOP candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama, out of respect for those who lost their lives in the terror attacks eleven years ago.

When the cause of the violence in Cairo and Benghazi became known The White House remained silent seeking to gain more details about the scaling of the embassy walls in Cairo and the armed violence in Benghazi. The United States Embassy in Cairo issued the following statement prior to the violence in an effort to defuse anger about the film:

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

This statement was directed at Sam Bacile, a 52 year old Israeli-American real estate developer who wrote, filmed and produced the Muslim bashing film The Innocence of Muslims. However, the Romney campaign decided that this would be a golden opportunity, on 11 September a day of mourning for patritotic conservatives to attack the Obama administration for being “weak on Islam.” The Romney campaign issued this statement, which it states should have been held until 1 miniute after midnight this morning:

“It’s disgraceful that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

This of course is chateaubriand with a rasher of bacon to the far right who are already in the Romney camp. Romney’s advisors miscalculated horribly, which is what political amateurs do, because the above statement was issued before it was known the ambassador and three others had been killed. This is not a gaffe it is political incompetence on the part of the Romney campaign as it was released to attack President Obama on 11 September. Are you listening undecided American voter? These are the people who want to drown America in another war of choice, this time with Iran, with no clear exit strategy. Haven’t you seen that movie before?

The Obama campaign responded to the Romney campaign early this morning in the form of an e-mail sent by campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt:

“We are shocked that, at a time when the United States of America is confronting the tragic death of one of our diplomatic officers in Libya, Gov. Romney would choose to launch a political attack.”

Sam Bacile, who is allegedly in hiding in fear of his life, has made no statements but Pastor Terry Jones vows to continue to press on and show clips of this obscure yet fatal film. This is the pastor’s right, but he has to keep in mind, in light of the events in Benghazi and Cairo that bigoted actions can have a brutal cost, globally, in the digital age. I would say that inciting people to riot and do violence is a crime and because of this Sam Bacile and Pastor Terry Jones are responsible by their incitement of those offended by this “film” and they both should be arrested and charged with depraved indifference. Both men sought this sort of violence and they sought fame in their communities for being so vehemently anti-Islam. They should now both reap what they have sown.
