THE BRUTAL BEAUTY OF HISTORY

This wasn’t going to begin as a rant but it likely will end as one. I had prepared to write an article last night after reading Pamela Geller’s screed about “Jihad Coming to Boston!” but finding both my partners spooning in bed [much to my surprise Valeri had returned from Rham unexpectedly while I was reading] I chose to enjoy my hours before sleep rather than pound these keys in the miserable hope of confounding a woman whose bigotry and ignorance know no boundaries. This evening after a full day of research laced with bourbon and cigarettes Carlton Pryor my good friend and economic genius brought by a pastrami sandwich from my favorite deli on Via Lacrima and invited me to watch a film he’d been interested in for quite some time.

The film was Hyde Park on Hudson and the film features the talents of Bill Murray, Laura Linney, Olivia Williams and Elizabeth Marvel. Before I go any more down the rabbit hole connecting this fine film and the story with the political dagger I’m going to wield to puncture the premise about jihad that Ms Geller makes, I need to have a brief aside to wax appreciative of the artistic talents of Ms Linney. Those of you who have read my columns over this near Terran decade know how I feel about Laura Linney so I need not go down that road again. I must ask, however, is there as intelligent and beautiful a woman who can portray on the silver screen such melancholy and fragility? If you haven’t seen the movie I won’t spoil kit for you and a good pastrami isn’t required either I just got lucky.

The importance of America’s relationship with Great Britain got me thinking about how closely we’re tied even in rising from the ashes of terror attacks. Britain has a much longer history of dealing with their “troubles” than the nation of my birth and death. The British don’t panic when something blows up because they know that the United Kingdom is bigger than the hatred of those that would like to see the Union Jack in tatters. Often, like in the United States today fear of the IRA bombers was used for political purposes; rarely was that ever effective.

Geller would like to make Americans think that there is some conspiracy afoot within American government that will have the United States Constitution shredded in favor of sharia. I don’t think that Ms Geller believes this I just think she knows if she says it loud enough, and often enough, that a few people who are suspect to being afraid and those who know they can profit from supporting her views without actually getting the stain of genocide on themselves, will come to her aid in the form of economic compensation. In a quick phrase Pamela Geller is a whore for Islamophobia. Before any of the conservative men who want to get a blow job from Pamela Geller or even the few thousand who want to fuck her in the ass [she might still be of childbearing age and of course you're not going to use a condom, of course not!] get all riled up about how violent Muslims are take a chill. Yes, many Muslims have been very violent in their efforts to get all the shit they think would come from forming a theocracy all over Terra. Since I don’y yell in my posts let me say this slowly and clearly– they’re all nuts just as all religious fanatics are nuts. If they think anyone in the West is going to give up all the secular good times they have to walk around in a circle about a stone well, to quote Carl Pryor, a proud gay man from Maida Vale, “Fuck off, mate.”

In Hindsight
I want Ms Geller to understand this from a Jew who knows more about history than she has learned by picking out only the worst actions of the people she’s chosen as an enemy; history is cyclical. There is no jihad in Boston and as cynical as this might be to say I guarantee you that just as Americans were talking about other things by the summer of 2002 Americans will have something new and likely not terror related on their plate by the summer of 2013. Pamela Geller is in the business of Islamophobia but doesn’t, literally, have the balls to say what her most ardent and ignorant supporters really want and that is for the United States to conduct a global campaign of genocide against all Muslim peoples. That’s the quiet solution to the problem that no one wants to say in polite company because there are 2 billion Muslims globally and they aren’t going anywhere. They won’t all fit on Gitmo so they must be planning something permanent for their cousins just as the post Weimar government in Germany did to many of my distant relations in the last century. Any Jew that can stand for this kind of hatred needs to have his head examined. Never again also means you don’t want your brother’s tribe to be exterminated.

THE SATURDAY RANT: MY PERSONAL HERADVENTURE CONUNDRUM IS TRYING TO DECIDE WHO IS THE GREATER DECEIVER PAUL BEDARD OR JIM HOFT

Before I launch into my rant this afternoon I want to express my congratulations to Ayoka Chenzira, Ph.D, Director of the Digital Moving Image Salon at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia for winning a $ 100,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant to develop an interactive video game, HERadventure that deals with issues critical to women globally. The concept is brilliant and I look forward to participating when the game launches on International Womnen’s Day 8 March 2013.

Now on to the rant. Paul Bedard writing at the Washington Examiner.com takes exception to $100,000 being spent by the federal government to promote and fund HERadventure which he says the National Endowment for the Arts calls, “”focuses on a young female superhero sent to Earth to save her own planet from devastation because of climate changes caused by social issues impacting women and girls.” I have to this point not been able to find that quote anywhere on the NEA website in their grant award section or the Internet save for this litany of bigoted and conservative leaning websites.

And to be sure when you have a lineup like Stormfront.org, World Net Daily, the Gateway Pundit, the National Review and the Free Republic lining up against you there must be some mis- or disinformation afoot. And of course that is true in this case because Bedard sees the video game not as a springboard for understanding and dealing with issues that affect the lives of women in America and all over Terra, but and I kid you not about global warming. Now this issue is important to conservative white men because it is seen as a gross threat to their ability to do what they do best– waste. Global warming would take away their comfy cars and their suburban homes that gobble up fossil fuels at an alarming rate to the expense of the very planet you live on. This issue to conservatives is likely second only to their fear of taking their guns away.

In Hindsight

But HERadventure isn’t about climate change at all it’s about addressing the social issues that affect women of color specifically and all women indirectly. Bedard, Hoft and the gallery of American Taliban hollow heads at World Net Daily and the Free Republic miss the point entirely and their commenters conservative white men and women alike seem to take some measure of glee at this “government waste” just as they use their remotes to raise their house temperatures to 80 degrees on a 40 degree day with a remote so they don’t have to get up from the gun and bible driven ideological comfort comfort of the La-Z-Boys.

THE SATURDAY RANT: WHY JIM HOFT STILL CAN’T GET FACTS RIGHT AND MICHAEL SALMAN IS YET ANOTHER RIGHT WING STALKING HORSE

One of many hot button issues for American conservatives is the freedom to practice Christian religion freely and without hindrance from the local, state or federal government. This issue has been taken up by Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit in the case of Michael Salman, pastor of the Harvest Community Fellowship Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Yes, Arizona again.

From reading the current article at Gateway Pundit, which links to Glenn Beck’s The Blaze one would believe that Michael Salman is an “innocent Chrsitian pastor” who wanted to legally erect a church in the neighborhood. But a previous article published on 17 January 2008 by Sarah Fenske in the Phoenix New Times paints a completely different picture.

Salman has had a bit of a checkered life as was reported by Fenske in her 2008 piece. The pastor was charged, tried and convcted of a drive by shooting and served three years of a six year sentence. Salman openly discusses these events as well as his arrest for impersonating a law enforcement officer, which is a misdemeanor. He has been inflexible in his determination to build a 4,000+ square foot church on his property despite his inability to finance such a venture. Neighbors in the community have fought the construction and Salman has not complied with community codes for such a building. His defiance has angered and frightened neighbors to the point that one has put his home up for sale.

In Hindsight

The real hoot in all of this is that Pastor Michael Salman is seeking help from the US Department of Justice for this local matter. Yep, that same DOJ run by the Attorney General Eric Holder who had come under fire by just these same sort of conservative over “gun walking” in the state of Arizona. Salman hopes that the DOJ will aid him in his effort to convince the Phoenix city council to allow him to build his church. To me as a reporter with an opinion this appears to have more to do with the arrogance of one man and conservative pundits wanting to give the appearance that their “base” of Christians is being persecuted by secular government than anything else. Nowehere in The Blaze report is there anything about the numerous confrontations and refusals that Salman has been invovled in with both city officials and his neighbors. Salman has been fined $12,180 and faces a 60 day jail sentence.

On the Fox News Radio site where host Todd Starnes first brought this to the eyes and ears of conservative listeners, the headline most recently about the 60 day jail sentence Salman has recieved for continuing to hold services in a building with 67 code violations is, “Man Facing Jail For Hosting Home Bible Study.”. This is as entirely innacurate as if the title had been, “Former drive by shooter sets up shot in Phoenix suburb.” Republic Heritage has a headline, “Man Facing Jail For Hosting Home Bible Study.” The reality is that the shed in the back of the home was not fit for gatherings of people according to Phoenix city fire code standards. Keep in mind loyal readers this is the same man who declared himself immune to all US laws by joining the “Embassy of God” which it’s chief proponent Sunday Adelaja has drawn considerable criticism for financial fraud in numerous media reports.

THE SATURDAY RANT: A LOOK AT THE WORLD IF THE BIRTHERS GET THEIR WAY

I’ve toiled over writing this for some time. I know President Barack Obama is eligible to be President because he is qualified under the Constitution to be as he is a citizen of the United States born in Hawaii. But the Birthers don’t seem to care about any of the facts they just want Obama out of office as that would be the ultimate coup for their ideology. Most of the people who want this are conservatives over 45 years of age and have seen “their” America go from a place where they felt safe and secure to a horrible place of fear for themselves and their kids and grandkids. I get that too, but they are still wrong because they world they crave to have back became that way on the backs of many of the “others” that they loathe.

Over time I’ve had the privilege of discussing this with several members of the Hellac government and some scholars of social science who know very well what the outcomes would be were the sitting President found to be ineligible as a foreign national. I, personally, do not wish for this to happen but this is one of the scenarios that the Laal Hethri put forth in January 2010 to address this issue. They make it clear in the preface that if the President is a part of one of the most complex and long running conspiracies of all time then the law must be applied as dictated in the United States Constitution.

SCENARIO 2.4.1:

“A member of the Department of Justice discovers evidence that the President’s birth certificate is a forgery and that he was born outside the United States to an American mother and a Kenyan father. This evidence is taken secretly to several people to be verified both within the DOJ and outside. When all parties agree individually, the facts are taken to the people by way of a press release from Dr. Orly Taitz with the man who gave her the data, Robert Smith.

The President initially resists the claim but the media presses on and within one week “for the sake of Union” the President resigns and Vice President Joe Biden is sworn in as 45th President of the United States. In Congress, the GOP House majority pushes for the impeachment of Biden based on the assumption that since the President was ineligible then his running mate also. These proceedings begin and the results are favorable to the Birthers in less than a month a Senate trial begins.

While this is taking place in every suburban area of the United States agitators on both sides of the political spectrum act out in violent ways. In a months time six states have national guard troops patrolling streets trying to quell the violence. The media reports that Taitz has been taken from her home and is missing and presumed to have been killed. Biden resigns before the Senate can come to a decision and the House Speaker is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States. In three months the violence is out of hand and the new President calls for the use of deadly force against American citizens to bring the rioting under control. Petrol prices soar to over $9 per gallon. Food distribution is disrupted and rumors of race based atrocities on both sides are fueled by their over reporting by the MSM. The radicals on both sides of the political spectrum take this orgy of slaughter to its fullest conclusion and when it ends six months after the resignation of the President more than 1,000,000 Americans are dead or missing, over $80 billion in property damage or loss is recorded and ten US cities are burned beyond use. The Dow sinks to under 5000 and the dollar drops to an all time low against foreign currency. Then, led by Norway and Russia, nations begin to call in their holdings of US debt.”

In Hindsight
That is not the worst case scenario offered by the Laal Hethri, it is a centrist view. America is the nation that it is because it is held together by a steady water supply in most regions, a steady electrical supply in most regions and an abundance of both food and general safety. If you take those things away, starting with personal safety, America will no longer cease to exist. It appears this is what the Birthers wish. Personally, the status quo is favorable.

THE SATURDAY RANT: RICK SANTORUM IS THE ONLY NIGGER I SEE

“You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger” (James Baldwin).

Okay, does the title of this post make this clear enough? I’ve had it up to my eyes with all the bigotry coming from the Right since Barack Obama announced his candidacy for president 5 years ago. Enough is enough; I get it bigots you hate the man not because he’s a liberal, which he isn’t really, but because his mother was white and his father was black. This isn’t about America this is about white Americans who have nothing but guns and religion to cling to as America gets browner by the day and the 1% gets richer and richer by the minute.

The millions of white folk that love Israel but cannot explain why, I’m sure it has something to do with one of the buffet selections they’ve taken from the Bible that suits their bigoted worldview, now have a champion in the form of Rick Santorum. The former Pennsylvania Senator now has made John McCain look far better to me as a public servant. At least McCain refused to use race against Obama and was terribly uncomfortable with the bigot vote crowd that rushed to the side of Sarah Palin who I thought would be the last “great white dope” offered by the GOP. Clearly, I was wrong in this age of conservative Catholicism that allows Newt Gingrich to pimp his new religion for profit and pussy to marry the woman he was having an adulterous affair with while the 46 to 80 set are the only ones attending mass. But the crimes against Humanity of that group are another topic for another time.

In Hindsight
In the video above I am sure Santorum’s “handlers” will say it was a slip of the tongue but the 37 million bigots in America have heard the dog whistle and they love it! I’m sure the white middle class Rush Limbaugh listeners have a new warm feeling in the pits of their stomachs to take away all the colld they had in their chests when thousands marched in support of Trayvon martin’s family. Santorum is not only unfit for the highest elected office in the United States, he’s no longer fit to be an American citizen. Where is his birth certificate? I say he should be deported back to Italy in the 13th century where his views will make him a great man indeed!

THE SATURDAY RANT: MY BARSTOOL CONVERSATION WITH JFK

This is a new thing in an old wrapper for me. I like to rant it’s the best way that I can express my opinions about a wide variety of things that the Living do that piss me off to no end. So, from now until I do something stupid enough to get fired from this lofty post, i will hold my fudge all week and spray it all out on these digital pages on Saturday mornings.

There’s quite a bit of tee-heeing on the Right in the past few days regarding a woman who came forward about an affiar she had with John Fitzgerald Kennedy when she worked as an intern in the White House in 1962. I watched Meredith Viera’s Rock Center interview with Mimi Alford with a bit of curiosity. Ms Alford is an elegant and well spoken woman and I personally believe that she is recalling her time spent with President Kennedy with clarity and accuracy. Like most young women who take up with a powerful man she described Kennedy in the same way many people here in Dis describe him. Charismatic. Handsome. Magnetic. I know the MP from the 54th arondissment of Dis very well and I sat down with him at the bar in Vulca last night.

I wasn’t looking for this story; Kennedy saw me coming out of the head and asked if I wanted to chat for a few minutes, “on the record.” I thought this was about some matter lof business before the Bax Demvolu Comnu, the lower house of parliament here in Hell but he said, “No, nothing that pedestrian, Fred.” We sat sat down at the west end of the bar which was always more quiet and relatively private and the female demon bartender started making JFK a bullshot. I asked for a Knob Creek on the rocks and she nodded. JFK was rubbing his hands as he tried to gather his words.

“Fred I know you saw the interview and I want to talk about that,” he said as his drink arrived and mine was being poured. There was some laughter from a couple that passed behind us as they went to their table. “You know that I loved women probably more than anyone who occupied the Oval Office. I remember the first time I saw Mimi,” he paused voice cracking, and then as he composed himself his eyes gave that flicker of light that betrayed a Soul in Hell recalling better days when alive, “I was enthralled. Lust, sure there was lust, she was fresh and young and impossibly beautiful, but there was something in her manner, do you, can you understand Fred that drew me to her in a way that goes far, far beyond simple lust my friend.”

“I don’t give a goddamn about terrestiral politics now, or legacies, all of that shit is for the birds, you know that?”

“I do Jack I know that for sure,” I replied taking a pull off the bourbon in my highball glass.

“If you want to write something about this I’m here to tell you that I loved that girl, I loved Mimi because she took all the weight of that cursed office from my shoulders even if just for a few minutes. The playful way she would call me Mister president even when I begged her to call be Jack, ahh, there was no currency in Hell or on Terra that could buy that sort of peace. So write this my boy. You write this for me. If the Right on Terra today think that I was less of a President because I loved, and made love to a beautiful woman outside my marriage that’s fine. But until they are in that crucible I think they should keep their focus on the problems that America has not what one man did and has no regret for generations down the road. I loved mimi Alford Fred. That’s what I wanted to tell ylou and that’s what I want every Soul in Hell to know.”

He finished his drink patted me on the back as he always does and strode off to join his table for dinner. I looked up at the coulmns of liquor bottles from more than 100 worlds and asked for another reminder of the good life on Terra. “Daxgedza! I shouted, “I’ll have a bullshot over at my table.”
