BUFORD ROGERS IS NOT A TERRORIST BUT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TO CONSERVATIVES HAD HE NOT BEEN WHITE

This is because Buford Rogers was caught before he could commit acts that would have certainly been deemed terroristic. Had they been committed by anyone with connections to a foreign group, a religion other than Christianity and been non white. From the interview done with Buford Rogers’ parents, We, Ourselves of the Collective clearly have the Federal Bureau of Investigation to thank for keeping this domestic and local grudge from becoming something much more serious and deadly. Many conservative forums and blogs are making light of this arrest. The Meditators find this both amusing and shocking.

Consider this scenario; a man is caught in a home with pressure cookers and black powder and nails and ball bearings and a tip leads to the FBI arresting him and his brother days before the Boston Marathon. After the holiday the media report the findings of local, state and Federal law enforcement. The plot to bomb the race and to carry out further attacks in New York City has been thwarted. Now is this person a potential terrorist based on what the police and the FBI suspect he could have done had he completed his bombs? Does it really matter if the person is an adherent to Islam from Dagestan or the product of poor white trash in western Minnesota?

The crime that will likely not stick against Buford Rogers is the possession of a firearm by a felon charge. It is alleged that Rogers had a Romanian AKM rifle and other firearms based upon his fingerprints being on them. Jeff Rogers, the father of Buford, says that his son only cleaned the weapons. What would the NRA say about a legal gun owner allowing a relative who is known felon who legally is barred from possessing a firearm easy access to them? Is this not one of the gaping loopholes in gun ownership regulation in America; the sales between relatives many times done after straw purchases?

Margaret Rogers a woman identified only as being married to Jeff Rogers said there were no pipe bombs in the home but the FBI stated the pipe bombs and Molotov cocktails were found in the shed with other potential weapons. Conservative blogs have already picked up on the words of this woman which echo terribly similarly to those by Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s mother which claim Buford is not a terrorist and that there was nothing found in the home. The reaction of the Rogers family and those that knew Buford Rogers run parallel to the sort of things that were said about the Boston Marathon bombers. Rogers even has a younger brother who can be seen in the picture above wearing camouflage and standing next to a poster which could be used for an anti-illiteracy campaign.

The words of Jeff Rogers are clear and to the point for all to see, “Bucky is not a terrorist. He is not out to bomb anyone. He’s a patriot like we all should be.” The Collective knows and understands exactly who the “we’ Jeff Rogers refers to in this quote. Rogers and his sons were members of a minor group of patriots in Minnesota known as the Black Snake Militia. The BSM has ties to the Southern Brotherhood Milita whose stated goals are [Emphasis Ours}:

"We oppose the United Nations , NATO and the Powers-That-Be, we are against the Federal Secular Humanists that run our Anti-Christian / Anti-God Government. We oppose Abortionists, CFR, the International Bankers ( Banks ) and Corporations. We oppose all meddling beauracratic [sic] entities.

We are anti-conformists and believe people should show absolute respect for the diverse differences in beliefs, ideas and character of others.

Our foremost objective is to establish a Theocracy .

We employ a social tribal order, to maintain our laws and see to the social welfare of our people.

Our purpose is to stand against all evil and utterly destroy the perpetrators of evil.”

And now this becomes, yet again, a matter for the Laal Hethri. The beliefs of many groups like the BSM and the SBM are the beliefs of the rank and file of the TEA Party. When an adherent to Islam commits such acts it is always terrorist when poor white theocrats plot to do similar things it is to conservatives simply a “local dispute” that got out of hand and the FBI has “overreacted.”

NORTH CAROLINA GOP SECEDES FROM THE UNION

This could possibly be the best delayed April Fool’s joke of all time.

Well, almost. Two North Carolina legislators are fed up with all the secularism in their state and have decided to introduce a bill that would allow North Carolina to declare an official state religion, by way of the Rowan County Defense of Religion Act of 2013. Now if they picked Judaism I would be shocked. The Atlantic Wire and Forbes both point out, as The Boss did this morning that Lemon v Kurtzman [403 US 602] (1971) quashed the constitutionality of any such action by any of the several states.

I know it’s unconstitutional and so do they but in these dark times for conservative thinking any half baked idea to rally the base is better than no idea at all for those on the Right. Here’s my problem with this that goes far beyond the simply nature of how it kicks in the teeth of civil liberties; which religion gets chosen and by whom? Now Carl Ford a Republican from the bustling diverse metropolis of China Grove, North Carolina and Harry Warren a Republican from Salisbury, North Carolina may not have thought this through. I would imagine that both of these men and the other 11 GOP representatives that support it would all stand up and shout “Christianity!” That’s fine since 79% [as of 2001] of the population of the state professes Christianity as their faith of choice. Okay, but which sect?

Let’s say they decide in the North Carolina legislature that their official religion is the Southern Baptist Convention. That may ruffle the feathers of the Methodists, the Mormons, the Episcopalians, the Lutherans, the Presbyterians, the Jews and the Catholics who taken together make up 41% to the Baptists 38%. A religious war could erupt along the lines of the English Civil War from Elizabeth City to Black Mountain over a perceived right that a conservative group of legislators wish they possessed.

If they dodge that time honored western European tradition of murdering each other over how you worship their still would be many hurdles that would have to be jumped in the name of not violating the new law. Public officials would now all have to come from that minority of Baptists. Every judge, every mayor, every sheriff that ran for office would have to come from this pool of citizens and no one else. To hold a public office one would have to swear faith in the state religion. Moreover, the people who sit behind those windows where you get a business license would also have to swear an oath or kiss the hem of a flag or something to keep their positions. So imagine me, a New York Jew living in retirement in North Carolina and I want to start a business. Would I be allowed to get a loan from a Baptist bank? Would I be able to get a driver’s license at the DMV? Maybe I would be easier identified if I wore a pretty yellow Magen David on my coat?

In Hindsight

This is the entire point. Angry old white dudes again slinging feces at the GOP brand. But of course this has nothing to do with the Republican party that Lincoln was the foundation of as a President. This has to do with the Dixiecrat wing of the Democratic Party that became Republican after Nixon’s Southern Strategy success in 1968. This is still really funny when you think about it. Conservatives lose their minds as if the Marines are on their way to take their guns at any mention of gun control because that’s a violation of the 2nd amendment while these hayseeds in North Carolina clearly have no respect for the 1st amendment at all.

MITCHETHEKID EXPLAINS IT ALL

A daring post from a Liberal commenter both here and at Blogs4Victory. This should be any Progressive’s first read this morning:

Thanks for mentioning our conversations Cluster. I appreciate it. I think that Amazona is correct in saying that social issues should not be the focus of any government, let alone one based upon conservative precepts. To take that statement to its logical conclusion, we all should be libertarian, as long as we do not devolve into anarchy. Unfortunately this is not the case. There are many, to many IMO, that are obsessed with social issues and use the government and it’s law making and law enforcing power to enact both restrictions and allowances. I am not a constitutional expert. I have a DAR manual that I look at from time to time but mostly for a point of clarification. I agree that it is a brilliantly written document and that the authors had enough forethought and enlightenment to be cognizant of the future. But it is also a product of it’s time, written by human beings who were every bit as complicated and flawed and brilliant and tragic as anyone living today. The essence of all words, as a conveyance of thinking, is metaphorical. (A word itself.) And as such, the words are subject to interpretation. An argument can be made that the “intent” that Amazona mentioned, is nothing more than learned guessing. (Emphasis on ned in learned.) One of the functions of the Supreme Court, is to interpret the meaning of the language that comprises the Constitution, by way of a shared consensus of opinion between a quorum of justices.
But in a representative government, if a social issue is a concern, then it does become subject to legislation. This has been a fact throughout human history. We do not live in a vacuum (no pun intended towards those who doubt my aviator skills) and in 2013 there are over 300 million people who live in the US. In 1776 there were ~ 2.5 and were primarily agrarian.
I think that conservative principals are the best choice where the issue(s) are economic in nature. But I do not disparage a degreed economist who happens to have a more fundamental understanding of the dynamics of a multi-trillion economy and how it interacts not only with those that have a dollar in their pocket, but now amongst the entire planet as well.
As I see it, it is not the educational system that is to blame, or the inherent bias that all people and businesses possess that is the root of the problems conservatism is experiencing, it is the behavior, the claims and the reporting of it. A few examples exist on this blog alone. Retired Spook going on about transformation. Society, culture and politics are fluid, not static.Please provide some specific examples Retired Spook, of how our country is suffering from the progressive nature of time and the changing attitudes of the population. There are very few examples that my feeble brain can come up with that verify your conviction that an uber left even exists, let alone paint with such broad strokes this “intense dislike of how America was founded.” Just how was it founded? Not why, but how. And why do you stereotype? Not all “liberals” are America hating. In fact, most people desire a better America, not a worse one.
Amazona’s use of inflammatory adjectives as a method of demeaning and undermining alternative points of view. And her obsession with spelling, grammar and punctuation. (I write the way I speak, commas substituting for pauses.)
I won’t even address Neo. There isn’t a better representative for the fanatical, fringe extreme that gives conservatives a bad reputation than he. Conservatism isn’t the problem. It’s conservatives.
I am a supporter of smaller government. I do not think excessive regulation(s) are a good thing. I think local control is superior to national but I also recognize the duplicity that currently exists on the right, how traditional conservatism has been eviscerated by a pandering to a certain type of uninformed and fearful individual and how tribalism has been exploited to further the monetary goals of others. This is the human condition. This is what Machiavelli often referred to and encouraged. I think that for conservatism to make a resurgence, it has to go through a metamorphosis. Unfortunately for those currently experiencing this change, it is a difficult process and it is perfectly understandable to want to blame those that don’t subscribe to the ideology, whom are not fixated with blaming the “media” or contemporary popular culture for their poor and declining image. There is a difference between cooperation and capitulation. This demarcation applies to all sides of the political grid. Self examination is a positive. A refusal to accept the need to change is not. And this applies to everyone on both a personal level and as a member of a group.
OK. I think I will slither back into my hole now.

NEW MEXICO STATE REP CATHRYNN BROWN IS THE NIGGER OF THE WEEK

It takes a special sort of desperate “I’ll do anything to get Roe v Wade overturned!” Conservative to get me to bring back the Nigger of the Week award. Rush Limbaugh can’t give out this award because he’d lose his job. [Go for it Rush; I'd say I hardly knew ye! ]Me? I get a raise for being Gonzo! Didn’t the United States just have an election or something like that? Seems like the Right after that ass kicking they got still doesn’t understand that abortion is a settled matter in American politics. I know that Cathrynn Brown, a New Mexico State Representative means well when she tried to sneak HB 0206 through last week:

RELATING TO CRIMINAL LAW; SPECIFYING PROCURING OF AN ABORTION AS TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE IN CASES OF CRIMINAL SEXUAL PENETRATION OR INCEST.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. Section 30-22-5 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1963, Chapter 303, Section 22-5, as amended) is amended to read:
“30-22-5. TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE.–
A. Tampering with evidence consists of destroying, changing, hiding, placing or fabricating any physical evidence with intent to prevent the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any person or to throw suspicion of the commission of a crime upon another.
B. Tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime.
[B.] C. Whoever commits tampering with evidence shall be punished as follows:
(1) if the highest crime for which tampering with evidence is committed is a capital or first degree felony or a second degree felony, the person committing tampering with evidence is guilty of a third degree felony;
(2) if the highest crime for which tampering with evidence is committed is a third degree felony or a fourth degree felony, the person committing tampering with evidence is guilty of a fourth degree felony;
(3) if the highest crime for which tampering with evidence is committed is a misdemeanor or a petty misdemeanor, the person committing tampering with evidence is guilty of a petty misdemeanor; and
(4) if the highest crime for which tampering with evidence is committed is indeterminate, the person committing tampering with evidence is guilty of a fourth degree felony.”
SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.–The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2013.

You see Ms Brown is a pro life advocate and despite the idiots in her district voting her and her 13th century views into office she has no business being in any elected office because she’s a psychotic zealot. With all the issues that the Land of Enchantment has at this time in history Cathrynn Brown wants to keep women from having abortions by threatening them with potential jail time by making an abortion of a fetus that is created via rape or incest “tampering with evidence.” Now that had to come from the mind of a lawyer. Matter of fact Cathrynn Brown is a lawyer despite having a name spelled like a stripper [no offense meant to any strippers out there for I hold you in much higher esteem than most politicians.] and she holds, according to <a href="http://www.salon.com/2013/01/25/cathrynn_brown_wants_to_abort_mission/"Salon Magazine's Mary Elizabeth Williams a seat on the Carlsbad, New Mexico board of Right to Life.

While the bill itself is niggerish enough the attempted mea culpa once there was a national media outrage was what really earned Brown accolades here in Hell. Wasn’t Governor Bobby Jindal just saying that people in the GOP have to stop doing and saying dumb shit? This woman is a practicing transactional lawyer and she said a draft of a bill she was presenting to the floor was “drafted too quickly.” That’s TEA Partyese for “Fuck I didn’t know this was going to create such a shit storm and ruin my political career!”

THE SATURDAY RANT: MY PERSONAL HERADVENTURE CONUNDRUM IS TRYING TO DECIDE WHO IS THE GREATER DECEIVER PAUL BEDARD OR JIM HOFT

Before I launch into my rant this afternoon I want to express my congratulations to Ayoka Chenzira, Ph.D, Director of the Digital Moving Image Salon at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia for winning a $ 100,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant to develop an interactive video game, HERadventure that deals with issues critical to women globally. The concept is brilliant and I look forward to participating when the game launches on International Womnen’s Day 8 March 2013.

Now on to the rant. Paul Bedard writing at the Washington Examiner.com takes exception to $100,000 being spent by the federal government to promote and fund HERadventure which he says the National Endowment for the Arts calls, “”focuses on a young female superhero sent to Earth to save her own planet from devastation because of climate changes caused by social issues impacting women and girls.” I have to this point not been able to find that quote anywhere on the NEA website in their grant award section or the Internet save for this litany of bigoted and conservative leaning websites.

And to be sure when you have a lineup like Stormfront.org, World Net Daily, the Gateway Pundit, the National Review and the Free Republic lining up against you there must be some mis- or disinformation afoot. And of course that is true in this case because Bedard sees the video game not as a springboard for understanding and dealing with issues that affect the lives of women in America and all over Terra, but and I kid you not about global warming. Now this issue is important to conservative white men because it is seen as a gross threat to their ability to do what they do best– waste. Global warming would take away their comfy cars and their suburban homes that gobble up fossil fuels at an alarming rate to the expense of the very planet you live on. This issue to conservatives is likely second only to their fear of taking their guns away.

In Hindsight

But HERadventure isn’t about climate change at all it’s about addressing the social issues that affect women of color specifically and all women indirectly. Bedard, Hoft and the gallery of American Taliban hollow heads at World Net Daily and the Free Republic miss the point entirely and their commenters conservative white men and women alike seem to take some measure of glee at this “government waste” just as they use their remotes to raise their house temperatures to 80 degrees on a 40 degree day with a remote so they don’t have to get up from the gun and bible driven ideological comfort comfort of the La-Z-Boys.

FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: WHEN IT COMES TO GUNS MANY AMERICANS CANNOT HANDLE THE TRUTH

I have taken some time to digest the blog post of noted documentarian Michael Moore of 24 December 2012, “Celebrating the Prince of Peace in the Land of Guns.” Moore makes a clear case of why there is so much gun violence in the United States and why a culture of gun worship makes it difficult to remove this cancer from American society. As Editor-in-Chief of this newspaper I support what Moore has written and feel compelled to off even more advice and explanation of why this situation, the collection of more guns than people in the United States, has gotten so far out of claw.

Moore cites Fear/Racism, Poverty and Selfishness as the reasons for so many guns being in the hands of Americans and he is spot on in this assessment. There is no doubt that “fear of others” also described by many social scientist here is Dis as “tribalism” is the root cause of the bulk of the problems in the culture and society of the United States of America. It has been said for more than two centuries as reckoned from Terra that multiculturalism would solve many of the quotidian societal problems in the nation and diversity would drive the need to keep the brown and black in poverty to the benefit of the white. Once again the root cause of the Newtown shooting massacre in its most raw and basic terms was the fear of losing material possessions or being harmed physically by a roving band of well armed “others.” Nancy Lanza was seeking to protect herself from rape/robbery/murder/home invasion because she saw an economic collapse coming in her feverish mind. Therefore she collected the materials she needed to defend herself from the “threat” she saw as imminent from a brown enemy she saw repeatedly in the media as a direct threat to her comfort and safety. Here’ I have to take the MSM to task in local communities form their constant drumbeat on television focusing on the criminal element among the United States’ 45 plus million black citizens.

While I would be remiss to ignore black crime, especially black gun violence, there must be a reflection upon why crime occurs and in what demographic it concentrates. As a demon journalist, I understand that many would posit that Nancy Lanza’s fear and her son Adam Lanza’s actions had nothing to do with their upper middle class lifestyle. To come to such a conclusion is the very definition of a Black Swan. Economic class is not always a leading indicator for gun violence but poverty does carry a far greater weight among minorities than it does among whites. One has to simply review the statistics for any calendar year in the modern era to see that black gun crime is generally restricted to those living just above or below the poverty line. The same statistics overlap for white gun crime making it clear that both the fact that the nation’s streets are awash in firearms and that too many have been left to poverty for the benefit of a false veneer of middle class white comfort, or, if I may go further, moral superiority. And here is the greatest of crimes because as Moore states, “If you don’t believe that, ask yourself this: If your neighbor has a job and is making $50,000/year, what are the chances he’s going to break into your home, shoot you and take your TV? Nil.” More work for those who are willing would make America a safer place simply by making consumers out of those who would fall into a criminal lifestyle. Many white conservatives would surely disagree with me on that point because now I would be guilt of the crime of socialism which to them means, “taking our stuff.”

And what exactly makes people worship stuff so much? I like many Human Beings here in Hell live a quite comfortable life knowing that my children are safe and secure, that I have a job which pays me well as does my mate and I live in a home that most living Americans would consider posh. However, here in Hell’s capital Dis, I do not require an arsenal of firearms and ammunition to keep my possessions safe. To be honest on many nights I forget to lock the front door. I have no fear of the Justice Force coming to my front door to have an inquiry about a weapon that I have owned, nor do I fear a relative that has lost their mind but not gotten the treatment he or she needs ending up on the news having blown away scores of innocent people. In the end despite the volume of references to myself in those statements recently written it is not about me anymore than it is about any of the selfish millions of Americans who think a gun is the answer to their potential fears or bigotries. Americans are exceptional in many ways just not in many of the ones in which they should be proud. I see the white conservatives [and the black conservatives who serve a lesser purpose than a remora serves a shark] in America decrying the desire of the Liberals in Congress wishing to limit the size of ammunition clips or remove assault weapons altogether while being among the first to invoke the religion of their second most worshiped deity to express consolation for the victims of yet another shooting massacre. It is high time that this violence come to and end and to do that a multigenerational effort to end the fear associated with bigotry in all its forms from all its sources, to end poverty and all its attendant causes and foremost to end the delusion that in a nation where a man can murder 26 innocent people in an elementary school that somehow it is their right to possess the very same weapons he used to commit this atrocity.

When a white conservative tells you that the Newtown shootings don’t compare to the level of black gun violence in the inner cities agree with this reply: “Then I feel as you do that all the guns need to be taken away and anyone caught with one should be subject to a long period of incarceration?”

FORGIVE CHARLOTTE ALLEN FOR SHE KNOWS NOT WHAT SHE’S TALKING ABOUT

We, Ourselves, of the Collective have been reading much of what Conservatives have been saying in response to a needed move toward gun control legislation in the wake of the Sandy Hook school massacre and We have found what We expected to find. No matter what the tragedy, the Right feels they have an earned privilege to possess firearms that goes far beyond what the United States Constitution actually intends. In this case even the murder of innocent children does not inspire Conservatives that the time has come for them to put aside the notion that their ability to maintain their unearned privilege must be protected at the barrel of a firearm. The Collective feels that America would be a far safer, prosperous and diverse place if these weapons were at least better controlled via deeper regulations mandated by the federal government. It is absolutely necessary to couple any weapons ban, ammunition ban or outright confiscation of firearms with a bold and far reaching program to address the mental health issues of all Americans who have not had their mental state evaluated.

Writing in the National Review Online, Charlotte Allen makes an abstract case for the root cause of the Newtown massacre –that the school was too “feminized.” Allen writes, “There was not a single adult male on the school premises when the shooting occurred. In this school of 450 students, a sizeable number of whom were undoubtedly 11- and 12-year-old boys (it was a K–6 school), all the personnel — the teachers, the principal, the assistant principal, the school psychologist, the “reading specialist” — were female. There didn’t even seem to be a male janitor to heave his bucket at Adam Lanza’s knees. Women and small children are sitting ducks for mass-murderers. The principal, Dawn Hochsprung, seemed to have performed bravely. According to reports, she activated the school’s public-address system and also lunged at Lanza, before he shot her to death. Some of the teachers managed to save all or some of their charges by rushing them into closets or bathrooms. But in general, a feminized setting is a setting in which helpless passivity is the norm. Male aggression can be a good thing, as in protecting the weak — but it has been forced out of the culture of elementary schools and the education schools that train their personnel. Think of what Sandy Hook might have been like if a couple of male teachers who had played high-school football, or even some of the huskier 12-year-old boys, had converged on Lanza.”

This is a statement of clear misunderstanding of foremost how situations involving shooters transpire and secondarily a blind disassociation from anything, and We, Ourselves, do mean anything, that would allow greater inspection of the Conservative values that guns and religion can cure any threat to their percieved moral hegemony and delusions of exceptionalism.
