I’m rushing to make it to the nine o’clock press briefing here at Serratoth Custom House this morning so I’m blogging from the court house steps. It’s nice and warm today so I’m enjoying a cold screamfruit juice smoothie and going through the misdeeds of the Living and I’ve come to the realization that everything is potentially political. it wasn’t always this way though. There was a time when a tragedy could take place far away from where you lived and the name of the President of the United States would never enter into the discussion. That’s not so much the case in 2012 for you lucky Souls on Terra.

A classic example of how partisanship make people stupid is the case of Sheriff Paul Babeau of Pinal County, Arizona. You might recall Sheriff Babeau’s name from the scandal he faced when he was outed as gay a few months ago. Then once outed it was found that this anti-immigration sheriff from Arizona was involved with a male Mexican lover and this cost Babeau a big for the US Congress. Okay, so shit happens, but after that series of events you would think Mr Babeau would reel in the appeal to the Arizona Wingnuts and the Border Fence crowd. Once again, not so much.

A few days ago James Butwin, 47 murdered his family and drove them out to Pinal County and set them on fire in their car. James and his wife Yafit, 40 and their three children Malissa, 16; Daniel, 14; and Matthew, 7 were found days later and their bodies identified. Now a person who wasn’t driven by partisan fervor would have made a basic statement about what a tragedy this was and that there was an ongoing investigation; not Sheriff Paul Babeau. He began before anything was known about James Butwin’s motives or circumstances that this had to be the work of “mexican drug smugglers.” Sheriff Babeau even posted to that effect on his Facebook page. My advice to Paul babeau is ditch the macho anti-immigration crap that only appeals to middle aged bigots and join the party of rights and freedom that won’t judge you on your sexual orientation.

A curious case in Florida we’re following that has a political angle as well. Ron Bramlage, of Junction City, Kansas the son of a prominent contributor to GOP causes in Kansas has died with his family in a plane crash. The Bramlage family has championed conservative causes and contributed heavily to state and federal GOP candidates over the past twenty four years. The plane they were returning from the Bahamas [ must be nice ] in was a Pilatus PC 12/47 an aircraft with a minor history of inflight mishaps that take lives.
