One of the many things in American history that has always fascinated me was the War Between the States, or as the TEA Party folks would call it today “The War of Northern Aggression.” Most Conservatives today are reeling about the Supreme Court decision that has upheld The Affordable Health Care Act. What hurts the most is that it is, as Chris Matthews just said a few moments ago on MSNBC that “it cast in Constituional stone and was upheld with Chief Justice Roberts at the head of the majority.” The video below was likely the reaction of the Right when they heard their golden girl on Fox News announce that the law was upheld.

The fight for passage of this law with all the townhall nonsense and the rise of the TEA Party was Antietam for President Obama. It wasn’t a clear victory but it put the Right back at bay and gave them a chance to reverse their partisan polarization that I still feel has just as much to do with the president’s skin tone as it does his social policies. The fact that a Bush II appointed Chief Justice sided with the more traditionally left leaning justices has to be devastating to Americans who get their marching orders from Rush Limbaugh. For President Obama today was Vicksburg and the election in November is Sherman’s march and the firing of Atlanta.

In Hindsight

At the end of the day this is a great victory for the American president but it is only a victory in a major battle; the war is far from over. I just turned the sound up on the Fox news monitor and took out my good bottle of Basil Hayden’s and poured three good fingers. Chris Wallace was trying to explain to the millions of idiots watching that this really isn’t Chief Justice Roberts’ fault but it is. Clearly, Wallace had the look on his face of a man who desperately needed a change of underwear. Now Senator Marco Rubio is trying to scare the piss out of the white conservative middle class by saying the IRA will “be on your back” because the law was upheld. Of course this is horeshit but to people who watch Fox News it doesn’t matter as long as it is the opposite of whatever President obama is trying to do for the benefit of the country. Senator Rubio I will be counting how many right leaning blogs and pundits repeat your “chased by the IRS” meme. Oh dear Fox just trotted out Betsy McCaughey. If that doesn’t signify victory for President Obama I don’t know what the Hell does. She wants a 20 page bill that “the people can understand.” Hell I read the bill in 9 days and I was correct it is constitutional.

  1. The president on Wednesday said that “same sex couples should be able to get married.” Since then, Perkins said he has heard from pastors across the nation who were previously sitting on the sidelines of the presidential campaign but are now ready to get involved.

  2. let’s face it, this is all a result of obama partially growing up on the job. it’s easy to make promises while running for president. it’s much more difficult to govern once you realize that the world is not going to change just because a new guy is in place. even when the new guy WAS “the one”.
