As much as I would love call the 2012 election based on the stunning reports of Mitt Romney’s continuing legal executive control of Bain Capital after he said he had none after 1999, sadly I can’t. What I can do, very briefly this morning, is point out another clear cut hypocrisy event on the part of those who would rather vote against President Barack Obama than for Mitt Romney. As much as I loathe cliches, America is at a crossroads in 2012 and the decions that are made in November in voting booths all across the nation will go a long way to determine whether America is a success or a failure in the first century of this New Millennium.

I went to Blogs4Victory this morning and they had only one new post that The Drudge Report was running a headline that Conodleezza Rice was the front runner for the Romney campaign as their VP pick. This was supposed to be a large stone dropped into a small pond that would push the Bain story out of the forefront of the minds of conservatives at least and the MSM at best. This strategy did not work. While many major news sources covered the Drudge Rice story many more including CNN and MSNBC devoted their entire evening schedule last night to trying to determine whether there was something more here than the nothing that both Bain and Romney’s campaign said was there.

I find it curious that Mitt Romney who wants desperately to be the President of the United States is willing to cover up his relationship with his own company and is refusing to submit tax returns for public scrutiny that likely would point out the veracity of the Boston Globe article stating that he was still in de jure charge of Bain well into 2002 base upon Securities and Exchange Commission filings. Romney’s easy way out would be to do what Barack Obama did in March 2008 regarding his affiliation with Reverend Jeremiah Wright which was one of the greatest political speeches of all time. Were Romney able to come close to equalling that speech he would not find himself the victim of his own free market capitalist success.

What I find most hypocritical is that the many of the very same people who think that the sitting president was born in Kenya despite all the evidence presented to the contracy from the State of Hawaii and other cources feel that this Bain Problem is nothing but a little harmless smoke. These people, whom I must confess would not vote for Barack Obama even were he running unopposed, do not see that to be an informed voter you need to have some grasp on what Mitt Romney really is. His tax returns, which these birther conservatives do not need to see because Mitt said he was done with Bain in 1999, would either reveal something damning or they would not.

This journalist is of the opinion that there must be something there or they would have been released. Progressives don’t need to become Bainers to counter the Birthers. If Romney releases his tax records going back to 1995 say there will be very few on the Left that will declare them false in any way. There is still time for Mitt Romney to come clean before the GOP Convention in Tampa and that might be his biggest problem.

If there is something in his tax returns even more destructive to his character than what has already been found by Borchers and Rowland at the Boston Globe it may cost him a nomination that he has all but sewed up nearly a month ago. The GOP rallied around war hero John McCain in 2008 when many of my colleagues here thought that the convention was going to self destruct. Sarah Palin, to her credit, saved that convention with an amazing speech that galvanized values voters and the GOP establishment as well. Then of course you know what happened from that point; she became her own worst enemy and the media continued to help her braid rope until she kept the man who should have been president in 2000 form having any chance of winning at all.

The good news for the Romney campaign is that today is Friday and weekends are slow for news. The Sunday news shows will be all Bain all the time and they hope this will work out of the MSM’s slow digestive system by Monday morning. If by the middle of next week Romney finds himself in the same spot Herman Cain was in months ago where more and more facts about his character and association with Bain from 1999 to 2002 come to light by way of the MSM rather than from the horse’s mouth there might yet be a chance that Jeb Bush or someone else well regarded by the GOP establishment might walk up to the podium in Tampa and take the brass ring out of Mitt Romney’s hand with a raousing speech of their own.

Qu’ul cuda praedex nihil!

  1. The BIG problem Romney has is that it appears he is a pathological liar.

Ser Daryl that is fully clear at this point. The beautiful and scary thing about politics in your country is that the electorate is very forgiving if you can appear tobe forthright.

  2. Yes. Americans LOVE a 2nd act. But they cannot abide politicians who lie to them. The question that will be resolved in November is which do they hate more: liars or the Kenyan-Muslim-Communist-Socialist-Atheist-Negro currently resident in the White House.

I’m not holding out much hope.
