POINT-COUNTERPOINT: HOW CONSERVATIVES WILL LIVE IN 2013

To the some on the political Right in the USA, as a conservative, your future Sunday’s if Barack Obama is reelected looks like this:

In reality, when he is reelected, it will look like this:

What you see up there is the problem. The certainty that their values are the only thing that can save America when what America really needs are people willing to compromise to solve the numerous problems of the day. In a way Mencken is correct when he says “Obama is the worst thing that could have ever happened to America at the best time.” You’ve got to get beyond Fox Nation and the Democratic Underground way of thinking to see the brilliance in that statement.

In Hindsight

It’s easy to scare people, when you tell them that folks who don’t live, love, worship or think as they do will come into power in the coming years, into voting against their interests. It’s even easier to point to those different from you as the problem if you have a large, homogeneous, self righteous base to draw upon that is willing to follow you out of those repeated reasons to fear. I feel I was wrong about this coming election. I don’t think it will be close anymore because more and more independent voters have already made up their minds. Those people like many on the far Left and the far Right are not voting on the economy, or even the direction the country will take; they are voting on issues of class, race and gender. That’s a race that Mitt Romney can’t win.
