When I took this job as a writer about Culture War issues seven Terran years ago I never thought I would end up doing so much political writing. That is likely because I’m a Liberal and social issues to me are personal choices that people make not planks in a political platform. Offering people choice is not destroying anyone’s “way of life” yet a vocal minority forcing people to conform to outdated values, that they themselves treat like used toilet paper, clearly is.

Karl Rove the master puppeteer of the George W Bush White House is now working for American Crossroads and has begun the great purge that will eventually reduce the GOP to a regional party. If the GOP jettisons its TEA Party elements this near permanent minority opposition will begin to move the party to the center and allow it to return to what it was in the pre-Nixon era of the 1960s when a moderate Republican was less rare than a unicorn. The goal for Rove is a difficult one to achieve; he must keep as many conservatives as possible within the party while assuring the loosest of cannons are cast a drift. Cut too deep and you will have a mass exodus of the bigots and the religious zealots who the GOP have depended on since 2000 to stave off irrelevancy.

Now enter Ashley Judd into the 2014 Senate race in Kentucky. Rand Paul is already in the Senate for that state and their likely isn’t much time left on Mitch McConnell’s dance card [how McConnell has survived being the only gay GOP Senator for this long has puzzled me for a decade and a half.]. There’s very little legitimate opposition for an intelligent woman with the financial backing like Judd would have. The ad above is running now because it is known that in Kentucky the Democrats have a voter registration advantage and that McConnell’s star is fading. But after the horrible failure of TEA Party fabvorites like Todd Akin in Missouri and Richard Mourdock in Indiana the last thing Rove and his GOP Establishment fat cats want to see is someone with diarrhea of the mouth taking on a beloved movie star. The terror for McConnell is so great that he has embraced the TEA Party in an effort to keep from being primaried in 2014. While in our polling Judd beats McConnell 52 to 48; Judd trounces the TEA Party favorite Rep. Thomas Massie 62-37.

And it is by being primaried that the GOP will be cut to ribbons. I can save the GOP right now with a simple explanation. Stop forcing candidates, incumbents, that can win and represent you well on 70% of your values issues out of races in the primaries simply because they have made a statement in defense of gay marriage, or have agreed with Obama on some issue or feel that a woman has the right to choose to have an abortion. America has more serious business than the settled issue of a woman’s right to choose. That battle is lost–move on. It is too late to appeal to minorities that ship has sailed because in the next ten presidential election years that minority as a group will be the majority, the voting majority. In that same forty years, by the year 2052, the base of 55 to 90 year old white men and women who remember back to a time when none of what has taken place in the last 13 years [a destructive terror attack on a major US city, a state legalizing gay marriage, a state legalizing marijuana, a black man being elected President, the Red Sox winning the World Series . . .] appeared possible outside of a Hollywood production will be dead or of such a small number that the Right will be more adequately described as the Center.

Rove has thrown a few spitballs at the TEA Party over the past few weeks and this is absolutely necessary. When he’s gone and I mean by the 2052 election what will the face of the establishment GOP look like? If there is a GOP it will have to look more like Marco Rubio and sound nothing like Allen West or Michele Bachmann to have survived. Either way for us this is a win win. If the GOP becomes a small but more centrist party this is the best outcome for America. If the TEA Party becomes the third party we see rising out of the ashes of a 2014 shellacking by the Democrats that gives them the Liberals the House and the Senate for Obama’s last two years then you have at least thirty years of uninterrupted Democratic Party Presidents. Keep in mind in the first half of this forty years Rush Limbaugh the last great voice for conservative ignorance and fear will too be dead [Limbaugh is currently 62 years old.–F.S.] and when that voice is silent the game will be over for the Right as it exists today.

  1. You forgot that Senator Miss Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is the foremost queen of the Senate

    • Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.] Says:

I dunno GRT I’ve been in the same room with Graham in a crowd a few times and I think he’s all about some pussy. It’s not always the guys with the lisp or the high voice that’s gay. I got the scoop on McConnell from a guy in Atlanta airport who pinpointed when and where the KY Senator would show up in the presence of a buff young man. But hell, I’m no hypocrite I just can’t figure out how McConnell can live with himself.
