MY CONVERSATION WITH A CONSERVATIVE
This exchange with a conservative commenter at Blogs4Victory:
“flaky forker: “yes that can get things done. Big things like fixing America’s crumbling infrastructure.”
Uh, forker, this country survived and was built on smaller government long before FDR and LBJ social crap. The interstate system was built and maintained without the need for huge government.
[NB: The US Interstate Highway System cost an estimated $425 billion 70% of which was financed with public funds.–D.V.]
Only when government began it great move left for massive entitlements (social security was much smaller and self-sustaining long before the massive expansions starting in the 60s), that the government could not maintain its infrastructure. The leftist programs that do nothing but make and keep people dependent on MORE government began sucking resources away from our infrastructure and its ability to be less inefficient than it is now.
I see you proggies want change, but why change what already was working and why don’t you move to areas where the change has already taken place?
The answer is you can’t. Your ideology requires everyone to live the way you want them to. Freedom is an all to powerful force that contradicts the political ideology you so embrace.”
It isn’t democracy if the government, the nation is “working” only for a selected few. “Of the people, by the people and for the people,” remember. Not just of one group or one religion or one gender but of, by and for all. Freedom to you and those who think like you means the tyranny of the control of others and you know that. Your anger at the modern world stems from your inability to control information, to control women to control norms in society to control the freedoms of minorities and to assure that your progeny above all other enjoy a privilege they have not earned and can continue to exercise this control as far into the future as can be imagined.
Some of the progressives I know here are atheists others are quite devout in their spiritual beliefs. None of them want to force you to reject your Faith, on the contrary being Progressive means you want everyone to have their Freedom in large and peaceful doses. Yes we are pro choice but that stance takes nothing from anyone on the Right save for the fear that a certain racial demographic will lose birthrate even faster as America becomes more and more brown in the coming decades. We all know that’s your real fear tired, what happens when sheer numbers no longer give your side economic and political power. Well here’s a wake up call. You’ve seen the outcome of that in the last two Presidential elections.
