RONALD LEE HASKELL CHARGED WITH SIX COUNTS OF MURDER IN THE GUN RAMPAGE THAT LEFT 4 CHILDREN AND TWO ADULTS DEAD AND ONE CHILD CRITICALLY INJURED IN SPRING, TEXAS

Majordomo Pain reported the breaking news of the standoff in a suburban Spring, Texas community after the slaying of 4 children and two adults led to a slow speed chase last night. Around 23h 02m HST Ronald Lee Haskell, 33, surrendered to Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies after a four hour standoff. Haskell is reported to be related by marriage to the family members who were slain at 711 Leaflet Lane in Spring, Texas.

KHOU TV in Houston is reporting Haskell approached the home on Leaflet Lane wearing a FedEx uniform and gained entry where he shot gathered the children together at the home and waited for the two adults to return. He then opened fire on all of them leaving only a 15 year old female alive but critically injured with a gunshot wound to the head. The two boys killed were 14 and four, the two girls killed were 9 and 7; the adult male was 39 and the adult female was 33. Despite her injuries the 15 year old girl was able to thwart a potentially more bloody gun violence rampage by conveying to the 911 dispatcher that Haskell was on his way to her grandparents home to kill more people. During his drive to shoot more relatives, Haskell was intercepted by law enforcement leading to the slow speed chased which ended in a cul-de-sac in an adjacent neighborhood.

This incident came a day after a man in Spokane, Washington killed his estranged wife and the Deaconess Medical Center and took his own life with a handgun.

Spring, Texas isn’t Chicago, it’s a small suburban community near Houston where the schools are good and the incomes are mostly above the national average. The casual observer would say these people have better advantages than most. Okay, Hoops all of this begs a question then. Why are vicious gun crimes like this and the Newtown shooting different from the sort of violence that was seen in Chicago over the 4 July weekend? You know I’m going to answer this question later, right? I’d just like to see the input from our readers first before I make my case for no guns in America in the hands of those that aren’t law enforcement of vigorously pre-screened.

Neocon I think this is more than a “white trash” tweaker. First of all I’ve seen nothing to say that this man was anything other than your average Joe who was in the midst of a marriage gone wrong. I have also noted as Hoops Green has that suicide kills more people in the United States each year than homicide. This case ended without the shooter taking his life because apparently he has something to say. Is this guy a savage? By your standards since he killed innocent people yes. So what is his excuse then? He lived in the suburbs had a job and his wife left him. He should move on not murder kids. Same thing goes for the people in Chicago who think violence makes them somehow a big man. Pull your pants up and get a job. I don’t have a bigotry–you do.

Okay Neo that whole thing is horse crap and has been refuted numerous times by impartial examiners; not the least of which is:

A 1995 study doesn’t apply to what’s happening in the United States today.

Have I told you Neocon that I do research for a living? The 2.5 million number was and is false we’ve covered that. The Armed citizens kill more crooks is false too in 2010 there were 665 justifiable gun homicides in the US 387 by law enforcement and 278 by armed citizens. 200000 women use a gun every year to defend themselves against sexual abuse? I guess if you mean carrying a weapon as “defend” then that could be possible. I require more digging.

Maybe I should have said Afterliving? A living is a living no matter which plane you are on. I still get hungry so I’ve gotta eat and to do that I have to earn some gelt.

Okay Neocon I’m sure you know the rule of holes right? Your reasoning is that since I no longer live in the United States then I should have no opinion about what goes on in the United States, nor should I have any say in the operations of government. I can’t vote in the US anymore nor would I try. I’m a writer and a researcher that’s what I do. And I know a bit about arguing. To argue effectively you have to have some basis in facts not just beliefs. Every day since I’ve had this job i have had something that I believed to be true or false overturned by facts found in more than one place. In the twelve words you posted as a reply you have shouted, “I don’t have a cogent argument against Fred’s facts and my only option is to tell him to shut up!” That’s sad pal, very sad.

What’s sadder is you were an ardent supporter of going to war with Iraq. That was fine with you for reasons I cannot begin to fathom because you say people should stay out of other people’s affairs. And yet you beat the drum for the Iraq War because it fit into your belief system and like me had the experience of Vietnam. Where we really differ is I realized early into my time in Vietnam that it was a bullshit war for bullshit reasons. When I got back home in 1972 I marched with the kids who were against the war because they were right and you clung to your faux patriotism and danced on the graves of 58,000 wasted lives.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The U.S. federal government ran a budget surplus of $70.5 billion in June, the Treasury Department reported Friday. For the fiscal year to date, the deficit is $366 billion, 28% less than the shortfall recorded in the same period last year, thanks mostly to increased revenue. This is the lowest year-to-date deficit in June since 2008. The government’s receipts totaled $323.6 billion in June, and spending was $253.1 billion. In June last year, the government posted a surplus of $117 billion, boosted in part by a large onetime payment from Fannie Mae. The government’s fiscal year runs from October to September.
