For the second time in five years, members of the Fruitland Park, Florida Police Department have left the department due to their membership and support of the right wing white supremacy group the Ku Klux Klan. Deputy Police Chief David Borst resigned from his post at the police department and his post within the city’s fire department and Corporal George Hunnewell was fired after the conclusion of the FBI investigation into KKK infiltration into the Fruitland Park Police Department. The FBI investigation according to sources within the agency, “is international in its scope of looking into supremacist groups within law enforcement.”

Five years ago Patrolman James W. Elkins was fired from the Fruitland Park Police Department after sending Klan recruitment flyers to members of the county sheriff’s department from his public post office box. At that time Police Chief J.M. Isom declared there were no other members in his department affiliated with the KKK. Elkins disputes this and it is now known to be true that Borst and Hunnewell were members of the United Northern and Southern Knights of the Ku Klux Klan during the time of Elkins’ termination.

  1. Allegiance to any racial superiority gang by a sworn law enforcement officer clouds their judgment in Our opinion. This is not the first time this small town department in a predominantly white community has had this problem.
