In my first life, I covered the Scopes Trial in Dayton, Tennessee and many have read about the buffoonery and bombast that rang around the numerous ill prepared rags of the day that called themselves newspapers. Today in America there is a new circus of mystery that pervades the drugstores and barber shops of places that are still mostly white and decentralized from urban life. I have heard people call these bastions of conservatism the flyover states, red states or even the “real” America. None of those do these places justice. Even here in Hell, those with viewpoints that would seem more suitable to the early 20th Century South, still gather in their millions in places like the city-state of Sheol where coal is king.

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids – and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch – they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do. And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.” — Cliven Bundy

Cliven Bundy made the statement above about the black experience in America. nearly to a man or woman, the descendants of slaves brought to America to do the hard work and receive no reward as free Human Beings for it. Even to this day, the black man in America is treated as a second class citizen first and foremost for being so arrogant as to want to be treated as an equal while being held to the standards of those who have eaten at the gold inlaid table of privilege and wealth for every day since the colonists dried their feet at Jamestown in 1607.

Denigration of the man in this case is not necessary; anymore than it was way back when I was covering Bryan’s antics in the South in a matter of who made what and by what means in regard to Human Evolution. Bundy’s words are his own and his opinion in this matter exposes some of the nature of the people who bang and shout against a government that is by its very design and intent a manifest bulwark to their profit, protection and purpose. The power structure in your United States of America, from the beat cop on the street to the Justices Nine on the Supreme Court are seated there for the benefit of those who have by and large looked and believed as the Cliven Bundy’s do.

I am exposing no great secret here. Most people who feel as Bundy does, and I would place their numbers in the mid tens of millions in America, want the extended privilege, however, of being able to feel this way and not have to express it publicly. That the Negro prospered in the days of slavery is no more true than saying a woman is sexually satisfied by a brutish, days long rape. Men like Bundy are angered that black Americans receive things like welfare and food stamps but they do not think with their hollow heads ringing with biblical quotes that deny freedom about the path these people’s antecedents were forced to travel to simply rise out of slavery to a state of abject second class status at the end of the 19th Century. Lavish brick and mortar of opinion has been constructed into a wall of ignorance by these people who willfully harangue anyone who makes this argument. They shout to their blessed Heaven where they know all things are bedecked in their favorite colors–white and gold, that the slaves were freed by Lincoln, a Republican and after that date the blacks freed of their shackles were the equal of every and several white men. This is the lie wrapped in the patriotic bunting of the American flag and carried by a white man in a Klan hood that tramples black lives to this very day. By my accounting those black families that have stayed together and have used their talents to become simply middle class are a miraculous success story facing the headwind of institutionalized bigotry for profit from the cradle to the grave. The Cliven Bundy’s of the world would have preferred that a sympathetic South would have kept these people in bondage for their own prosperity in a New Confederacy that can profit from suffering.

How then–I ask you reader– is that wish different from corporations who are themselves capitalist demigods who profit from black and brown men being institutionalized? Is this any different from the profit made by the majority on the broken lives of the minority from crack, liquor and other mind addling substances marketed to the suffering and miserable masses? The tens of millions of conservatives are too blinded by their own privilege to see this and too deaf to hear it; they only hear the sweet song of a chambered round in their guns and the thump of their Bibles that give them comfort despite the wind that rises in the form of change that certainly will come in the generation over the horizon.
