HAVE WE LEARNED ANYTHING FROM THE EVENTS IN FRANCE?
Coulibaly and the two Kouachi brothers are dead; Hayat Boumeddiene is still at large after a tense 72 hours in France. There are injured among hostages, innocent French people including children at the Hyper Casher supermarket. The radicalization of Islam is one of many factors that have led to this tragic series of events. Rampant youth unemployment especially among those who live in France and are of former colonial descent is another. These, however, are not and cannot ever be an excuse for violence. No religion should ever be the spark for murder and the violation of the civil rights of others. This belief, this Universal Truth, applies to Christians and all other religions alike. While it is true that the vast majority of Christians are peaceful people I only have to look back to Eric Rudolph to find someone will to kill and main for their religious beliefs on the other side of this religious divide.
As a demon journalist I support free speech. The necessity to “go to the edge” when making a point against religion is a staple here at The Dis Brimstone-Daily Pitchfork as it remains at Charlie Hebdo. Islam is not an inherently violent religion anymore than Christianity is fundamentally bigoted.
There are and will always be people who are willing to appeal to that highest authority to commit the greatest sins against their Souls. We are often mocked by commenters most of whom are Christians who have little belief in reality in the possibility that those in the Afterlife communicate with the Living, unless it is on their terms. These close minded people believe Hell is only for their enemies and that Paradise is for all the people that they love. It is impossible for them to grasp that the Afterlife is simply another plane upon which the Souls of the Sentient exist.
Conservatives tend to only see the world in which they live and thereby the Afterlife as black and white. This is not only ignorant it is as dangerous as the black and white vision that apostate Muslim have. The plain and simple reason why the majority of Americans who profess Christianity do not detonate themselves in the streets or seized hostages is because they have a vested interest in maintaining what they have, materially and personally. As time goes on in America, and the playing field demographically levels, it is my hope that success among the black and brown who grasp for the American Dream is not blunted by the truncheon of Conservative greed and bigotry. On your planet there is more than enough to go around.
So the question remains to all of our readers, what have we learned in these days from the events in France?
