POLITICS IN THE BUFF: SANDY RIOS AND THE PILLARS OF CONSERVATIVE STUPIDITY
Conservative talk show host [ugh, still have to say that] Sandy Rios on her show Wednesday conversed with callers that while they did not know where the United States Air Force Academy was, they were sure that President Obama was using “Islamist code” in his Monday night delivery of his 2015 State of the Union address. The caller stated that Obama was wrong on the location of the USAF Academy that it was in Fort Collins not 133 miles away in Colorado Springs. The Air Force assures me that the academy hasn’t moved; it’s still in Colorado Springs.
The lack of accurate information aside let’s get to the real batshit crazy nature of this conversation. Rios says during the segment, “The other thing he said that I caught, he has done this before, you know there are five pillars of Islam, and he used the term ‘pillars’ again in his speech last night. Actually, President Obama used the word “pillar” exactly one time in his speech and it was in this context [emphasis mine.–S.B.]:
“That’s why, over the past six years, we’ve done more than ever before to combat climate change, from the way we produce energy, to the way we use it. That’s why we’ve set aside more public lands and waters than any administration in history. And that’s why I will not let this Congress endanger the health of our children by turning back the clock on our efforts. I am determined to make sure American leadership drives international action. In Beijing, we made an historic announcement — the United States will double the pace at which we cut carbon pollution, and China committed, for the first time, to limiting their emissions. And because the world’s two largest economies came together, other nations are now stepping up, and offering hope that, this year, the world will finally reach an agreement to protect the one planet we’ve got.
There’s one last pillar to our leadership — and that’s the example of our values.
As Americans, we respect human dignity, even when we’re threatened, which is why I’ve prohibited torture, and worked to make sure our use of new technology like drones is properly constrained. It’s why we speak out against the deplorable anti-Semitism that has resurfaced in certain parts of the world. It’s why we continue to reject offensive stereotypes of Muslims — the vast majority of whom share our commitment to peace. That’s why we defend free speech, and advocate for political prisoners, and condemn the persecution of women, or religious minorities, or people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. We do these things not only because they’re right, but because they make us safer.”
This one reference is some sort of Islamist code? For this to be the case then no other President must have ever used the word except to tip off ISIS that it’s time to come to America to install Sharia law because the Americans are ripe for the picking. Sorry President Obama Sandy Rios has foiled your plan for American domination by global jihadists. What? There’s no such plot? Any good conservative would want to see proof right?
“Fortunately, we and our allies have rediscovered the strength of our common democratic values, and we’re applying them as a cornerstone of a comprehensive strategy for peace with freedom. In London last year, I announced the commitment of the United States to developing the infrastructure of democracy throughout the world. We intend to pursue this democratic initiative vigorously. The future belongs not to governments and ideologies which oppress their peoples, but to democratic systems of self-government which encourage individual initiative and guarantee personal freedom.
But our strategy for peace with freedom must also be based on strength—economic strength and military strength. A strong American economy is essential to the well-being and security of our friends and allies. The restoration of a strong, healthy American economy has been and remains one of the central pillars of our foreign policy. The progress I’ve been able to report to you tonight will, I know, be as warmly welcomed by the rest of the world as it is by the American people.
We must also recognize that our own economic well-being is inextricably linked to the world economy. We export over 20 percent of our industrial production, and 40 percent of our farmland produces for export. We will continue to work closely with the industrialized democracies of Europe and Japan and with the International Monetary Fund to ensure it has adequate resources to help bring the world economy back to strong, noninflationary growth.”
Okay conservatives would you like to take a guess which President made that statement during his State of the Union address. Need a hint? The address was delivered to a joint session of Congress on 25 January 1983.
