DAMAGE CONTROL OR DIRTY TRICKS? BREITBART REPORTS JEB BUSH TRIED TO RIG THE CPAC STRAW POLL
In 2011 Ron Paul won the CPAC Straw Poll. Mitt Romney won the CPAC Straw Poll in 2007. The winner of this poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference isn’t very likely to go on to be the nominee of the GOP. This being the case, then why would Jeb Bush, former Florida Governor bus in people to vote in the poll as is being suggested by Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle?
Boyle cites a New York Times article by Jonathan Martin which states that Bush had people brought in from Washington D.C. in an attempt to drown out the chorus of boos heard during his speech. Well, that didn’t work. Unless Bush was trying to stuff the ballot box for Ted Cruz or Scott Walker I’d say this is a non issue. Unless, it is damage control by the far right blogosphere in case their current golden boy Walker doesn’t win the ballot. The CPAC crowd has notoriously not been able to pick the eventual nominee over the last two decades. Since 1976 they have picked the nominee only three times when the White House was occupied by a Democrat [Reagan, 1980, George W Bush, 2000 and Mitt Romney 2012]. All of this makes for hilarious political theatre with just under a year to go before the first primary. Stay tuned. The votes should be counted soon.
