THE DESERT VISTA HIGH SCHOOL N-WORD COLLAGE PROVES SOMETHING ALL PROGRESSIVES ALREADY KNEW
I am desperate not to bury the lede here. What the photo below proves to all progressives is that racism and bigotry are things that are taught to future generations. While most of America was watching The Weather Channel to find out just how historical the snowfall would be the vitriol of indoctrination into the club of the highest class of political failures and personal malice was being poured out in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona. Now we have before us another, more familiar, case of whiteout. This type of blizzard is borne out of the hatred for the sitting President of the United States as distilled through evangelical churches who have become more and more nativist since 2001.
Those kids above are not alright. Their parents have to bear the burden of their crime. This is not a microaggression it is a symptom of the pain felt by the white middle class who needs someone to blame for the loss of material things in the Great Recession. Couple all of that with the constant drumbeat of animosity against people of color in the digital and broadcast media [Yes I mean you Fox News; yes I mean you Rush, Laura, Sean and Alex.–F.S.] and it comes as a shock that it has taken this long for white girls who have never done anything wrong to begin to emulate what they hear their parents saying in those private moments of anger at home. Having more materially has to be someone’s fault because it cannot possibly be their fault. I often read comments of conservatives decrying the concept of white privilege, well there it is. These girls expect to see nothing more than a slap on the wrist maybe a five day suspension for this “stupid prank”. And that is the height of hubris and in this case as a poker player like myself realizes is a tell. A conservative asked me when the last time white people rioted was. I answered that white people don’t have to riot because they have something to lose. These girls don’t need a knockout game or car jacking on their permanent record and this is simply pushing the envelope an expression of their privilege and that of their parents. The Desert Vista Six did what their parents should have expected them to do be a clear mirror reflection of white conservative middle class anger in the age of Trump versus the GOP.
