THERE IS A CURE FOR IGNORANT: AN EXPLANATION OF SUPERDELEGATES TO TIM DAVIS AT VIEWS FROM THE RIGHT SIDE
The reactionary kids in the room over at Views From The Right Side have expressed many times in the past their depth of knowledge about the United States Constitution. However, these same self proclaimed “patriots” have little or no knowledge of the process by which each party chooses its candidate for President. After Bernie Sanders’ victory last night in the New Hampshire primary, many took to Twitter and Facebook to attempt to scare the bejeezus out of Sanders supporters and add to the untrustworthiness meme of candidate Clinton, by stating that Clinton was leading because of the number of superdelegates in her column.
Well the number of superdelegates Clinton has won the support of so far is 355; Sanders currently has 14. To gain a better understanding of superdelegates and how they work, read this. Now this takes me to Tim’s comment at their blog, “Unsurprisingly, granny klintoon claims all the sooper de la gates from New Hampshire. No one saw that coming.” Clinton didn’t claim the superdelegates from New Hampshire last night because those superdelegates were in her corner from day 1.
You see superdelegates on the Democratic Party side come from five places: distinguished party leaders, Governors, US Senators, US Representatives and members of the Democratic National Committee. There are 712 superdelegates on the Democratic side and 437 on the GOP side. These are unpledged delagtes to the convention of each party which means they can vote for whoever they please. These delegates make up 17.6% of the total number of those for the GOP and 14.6% of the DNC. Therefore it is possible for each party to have the run to a nomination winning total shortened they have never swung a convention. So all the bluster about superdelegeates right now is nothing more than hot air. Those supporting Trump or anyone hoping for a GOP victory in 2016 should be much more worried about this.
