MITT ROMNEY WILL NOT ATTEND THE 2016 GOP CONVENTION IN CLEVELAND

Just a few minutes ago, The Washington Post reported that for GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney will not attend the 2016 Republican Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. this announcement magnifies the rift within the GOP caused by the emergence of Donald Trump as the presumptive nominee after his victory this past Tuesday in the Indiana primary. Romney’s absence follows the announcements by the last two GOP Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush that they would not be aiding Trump during the campaign.

THE SATURDAY MODEST PROPOSAL: A FEW MARKETING IDEAS TO HELP THE GOP WITH THEIR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Posted in 2016 ELECTIONS, 2016 US ELECTION, DONALD TRUMP, GOP, GOP 2016 CAMPAIGN, GOP AS A MINORITY PARTY, GOP MELTDOWN, TED CRUZ on 26/03/2016 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

It seems like it has been forever since the GOP occupied the White House doesn’t it? The GOP seems to be mired in the same swamp that the Democrats found themselves flailing in 1984 and 1988. Mondale and Dukakis were good men but presidential candidates? In hindsight, not so much. But as usual I am going tangential while simultaneously getting ahead of myself.

Obama reacts to Gingrich SC victory

The GOP base has grown tired of calling Barack Obama names and has left that buffet for the Elysian Fields of cannibalism. Yes, boys and girls the GOP has begun to use the same tactics they once used against Progressives on their own. Donald Trump has instigated a smear campaign against Ted Cruz via a scandalous, and untrue, account of marital infidelity published in the National Enquirer. That’s right the National Enquirer. This comes at the same time as a series of tweets that showed Heidi Cruz the wife of the GOP number two candidate side by side with Melania Trump. Well that’s not fair at all is it? I say that because number one the only reason Melania Trump is with Donald Trump is because he’s rich. Can we all agree on that? The two would have never met if he wasn’t so I think I win on that point. And as women married to conservative members of congress go Heidi Cruz is actually hot. Well in the same way that Kobe Bryant would be a superstar in the NBA over 35 game at next year’s All Star Game. Okay once again I digress.

Here is tip that will help the GOP get back on track and resolve the rifts within their own party and the gulf between Moderates and the three camps on the Right:

A politically branded ice cream flavor.

Everyone loves ice cream! Look how happy she is holding those sundaes! Her day is made! Okay enough exclamation points. They could come up with snappy patriotically nationalist names like “Border Wall Crunch” which would be vanilla with white chocolate sprinkles and a grey cone section that looks like cinderblock stuck on one side with a marzipan Mexican standing on the other side. Or maybe “Angry Voter” which would be vanilla with red white and blue sprinkles and a flaming cross [lit with Trump Vodka® made out of Popsicle sticks sitting prominently on top. The best one might actually “Cruz Cookie Dough Meltdown” a confection of vanilla ice cream vanilla cookie dough and vanilla sprinkles in a cone shaped like Melania Trump’s ass. That could united the GOP in minutes. And hey who doesn’t want to eat Melania Trump’s ass?

Melania Trump
In Hindsight

I have witnessed 15 campaigns for president since I was old enough to know what was going on and this year is the craziest I’ve seen. And that’s just on the GOP side. A race between Trump and Clinton will end in disaster for the GOP sending them once again back to the drawing board after the firing of Reince Priebus and calling in their political forensics team to do yet another election autopsy which will tell them they have to bring in more younger less white voters– and women. But we all know these are the things that the GOP doesn’t want to do. They want to be the party of the stupid, the angry, the bigoted, the intransigent screaming old fart, the mousy married middle aged white woman who is terrified of everything, the religious crackpot and the unstable gun owner. I knew the GOP would destroy itself before 2030 but I didn’t see Trump as the suicide bomber that would do the deed.

THE 2016 GOAT RODEO: MICHELLE FIELDS ASSAULTED BY TRUMP CAMPAIGN MANAGER COREY LEWANDOWSKI

Posted in 2016 US ELECTION, CONSERVATIVE HEADS EXPLODING, CONSERVATIVE HYPOCRISY, CONSERVATIVE IDIOT OF THE DAY, CONSERVATIVE IGNORANCE, CONSERVATIVE INCITEMENT TO VIOLENCE, CONSERVATIVE LIES, CONSERVATIVE VIOLENCE, CONSERVATIVES ARE OLD AND DYING AND SCARED, DONALD TRUMP on 11/03/2016 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

The presidential primary season this year is the craziest thing that I have ever seen. I’m sitting here watching journalistic colleague Ashleigh Banfield sighing and shaking her head at a montage of the litany of shoving, spitting and punching incidents that have occurred at Trump rallies over the last six months. Now I am sure conservative readers and trump supporters would laugh about this but I am not laughing. I am not laughing because this type of crowd hysteria is a symptom of a deeper fear and anger that is the cornerstone of the Trump primary campaign. Worse, Mr Trump has no idea how to turn this feeling that violence against dissenters is okay off.

Trump dumped at convention

This is Mr Trump’s problem because having said he would pay the legal fees if someone punched a protester in the face is tantamount to inciting violence. I’m not a lawyer, but given that the crowd is likely 99% in favor of Trump and overwhelmingly white the crowd feels like they can play by a different set of rules in this “safe space” than they would have to do if simply walking down the streets. All of this begs a question. When does this sentiment spill out of the rallies into the daily lives of Americans. What if someone who supports Trump hears someone standing in a queue at a movie theater saying disparaging things about the billionaire business mogul and decides to defend his candidate in the manner his candidate condones at rallies?

One has to look at the other side of the issue. What if, at a Barack Obama rally in the spring of 2008 a young white woman stood up and began shouting that the President was not an American citizen and was spat upon shoved or punched in the face by a black male Obama supporter? There were numerous incidents of rally crashers in both the 2008 and 2012 election cycles on both sides as this sort of behavior has sadly become a common theme in the American political discussion over the last two decades. On both sides in the last two primary seasons decorum was maintained now decorum along with reason have gone out the political window.

The latest example comes from the posh Trump event on 8 March 2016 when Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields was physically assaulted by Trump’s campaign manager Cory Lewandowski. There are now two questions here; one why did Lewandowski grab the reporter’s arm and two since he admitted that he did grab her arm why is he still employed by the Trump campaign? Many who support Trump are the same people who were absolutely incensed at members of the New Black panther Party standing outside a polling center in Pennsylvania back in 2008. Now when the tables are turned they are fine with violence at rallies in support of their candidate even if it means assaulting a member of the fifth estate.

hindsight 2396
In Hindsight

I want those both those who call themselves conservatives and those who are just angry and want a touchstone politically for their anger to think for a moment about where this is going. Violence no matter what side uses it solves nothing. The saddest part of all of this is that Breitbart which supports Trump has caved to the juggernaut that is the outsider candidate’s campaign posting a near apology for the victimization of Michelle Fields. President Obama would never have gotten himself elected if bands of angry black men shoved white protesters out of his rallies. Since Fields had asked a question about affirmative action of Trump after the rally when the candidate was walking among the press and Lewandowski had a spark of prescience that Trump might say something so polarizing that it could harm his candidate it is clear he had a rush of blood that prompted him to do the only thing he could; yank Michelle Fields’ arm and take her out of Trump’s line of sight. That having been said Donald Trump in this journalists opinion is no longer fit to hold any political office in the United States of America because of his decision that violence cam be a part of the modern political discussion.

SOMETHING GOVERNOR KASICH SAID LAST NIGHT IN DETROIT GOT ME THINKING

Posted in 2016 US ELECTION, GOP 2016 CAMPAIGN, GOP MELTDOWN on 04/03/2016 by Diane Valencen, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H [Journ.], ArF J., M.F.

DIANE_TOMLINSON_6

Governor John Kasich last night made his case for being the only “adult on the stage” last night in the GOP debate saying that he didn’t want to get involved in the “scrums” of low ball politics being played out between Donald Trump and Senators Cruz and Rubio. That statement about the dead ball rugby play as a descriptive of the GOP race for the nomination in 2016 is very important. In rugby, a scrum is called for by the referee, to restart play especially in rugby union where the eight forwards link up on the referee’s direction and the scrum half rolls the ball through the tunnel. The side which gains pushing advantage wins possession.

Scrum-Pumas-All-Blacks

The important word in all of that descriptive is referee. In this GOP race there is no referee only booing or cheering fans to chart the direction of the match. It is not even about the ball anymore because Trump has changed the rules. No matter what foul he commits, not even limited to making a euphemistic allusion to the relative connection between his hand size and penis size [Imagine if Barack Obama had done that in 2008?–C.E. esq.], Trump will not go to the sin bin. Instead, his fans award him more points in the form of more votes and thereby more delegates toward the magic number of 1,237.

Trump dumped at convention

Governor Kasich, I get your point, as I get Mitt Romney’s points he made yesterday. But Unlike Kasich, Romney tried to play the game with no referee that Trump has been winning since last summer. This is a recipe for failure and the only ones that will suffer will be the GOP establishment both during this process and in the general in November. A scrum has organization and oversight. The GOP race this year with Trump’s nativist allure, pandering to bigots, misogyny and his often outright denial of things he’s on tape saying has taken the Grand Old Party and turned it into an episode of Big Brother. At the end of the day it will not be the American people who decide who the GOP nominee is it will be the GOP establishment in Cleveland who will take all of his hard work of making the Trump brand a political movement and dash it against the rocks by elevating Speaker Paul Ryan as the “brokered” candidate. This will happen no matter if Trump’s hands and his penis are appropriately large.

IN TWO DAYS THIS WILL BE A BIG STORY ON CONSERVATIVE BLOGS: GOVEXEC.COM “25% OF FEDS WOULD CONSIDER LEAVING THEIR JOBS IF TRUMP BECOMES PRESIDENT”

Posted in 2016 ELECTIONS, 2016 US ELECTION, BERNIE SANDERS, POLITICS on 01/02/2016 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

Now that I’m not sitting in rooms full of lawyers and once again free to do what I do best, write, I can tell you about the latest survey done by Government Executive Online. With Trump leading among government employees at 32% it comes as a bit of a shock that 25% of federal employees polled said they would consider leaving the civil service if Trump wins in November. Now this is sweetmeat for conservatives because they think this means they can hire more Trump loving people to pack the seats of government offices for the next three decades. In the words of my good friend Lee Corso, “Not so fast!”

Bernie Sanders

Donald Trump among the 688 civil servants polled received 33% favorable and 64% unfavorable [full disclosure Clinton was 35%/62% which isn’t very inspiring.–G.R.M. Copy Ed.] The highest favorable were for Bernie Sanders with 44% among the Democratic Party candidates and Marco Rubio with 36% among the GOP candidates. It was a different question that will be buried on conservative blogs on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week when the Right “discovers” this survey. This question asked if the civil servant would be embarrassed, proud or ambivalent to have a candidate as President. Trump drew a 59% embarrassed with Clinton at 49%, Rubio at 20%, Cruz at 45% and Sanders at 37%. On the proud end of that scale Hillary Clinton had 27%, tied with Bernie Sanders while Marco Rubio had 26%, Trump 22% and Ted Cruz 21%. I look forward to seeing how the Right wing blogs, especially Breitbart.com will spin this.

DEXTER THOMAS EXPLAINS IT ALL: DONALD TRUMP REPRESENTS THE LAST CHANCE OF BIGOTRY BY BALLOT

Posted in 2016 US ELECTION on 31/12/2015 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

fredschwartz1

Writing at the Los Angeles Times, Dexter Thomas hopes that at least at the ballot box cooler heads will prevail and that Donald Trump will not be the nominee of the Republican Party in 2016, and that white voters will reject Trump and his divisive and bigoted rhetoric. However, if Trump is the nominee Thomas feels that he knows why, noting in his article that Trump has awakened fear in the hearts of many centrists and moderate conservatives to his side because of the shifting demographics and social changes of the past five years. In words that I feel will ring out loud by the time the GOP gathers for its convention in the summer of 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio, Thomas writes, quoting anti-racism activist Tim Wise, “They’re afraid that their country is being taken away from them by immigrants and people of color, and that Trump is their last chance to take it back. If they discover that they can’t win at the ballot box, the question becomes: What do we expect these angry white people to do?” Wise continues, “Some of these people might turn to terrorism.”

HOW LARGE IS THE CONSERVATIVE BASE? BOMBING AGRABAH

Posted in 2016 US ELECTION on 19/12/2015 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

fredschwartz1

There has been quite a bit of work done in the past 12 years regarding the size of the conservative wing of the GOP. At the end of the Reagan administration the estimate was roughly 45% of the voting electorate were conservative today it might be as small as 27%. H L Mencken said something profound to me last night at Vulca, “You have to remember that folks born in 1925 elected Reagan and folks born in 1965 elected Clinton.” Most of the people who were born in 1925 for Reagan are dead now but their children, born in the 1940s or 1950s have a few elections to go. The conservative base is shrinking because it depended on the Greatest Generation/Baby Boomer coalition that fell in line with the Moral Majority. A colossal 54% of that coalition will not be voting in 2016 and an addition 9% will no longer be voting in 2020.

Like most ideologies conservatism still picks up members even from the current generation which is why the numbers haven’t drifted below 20%. A recent poll done by Public Policy Polling asked eligible voters if they would bomb the city of Agrabah. Among Republicans 30% said sure. The problem here is that Agrabah is a fictional city from the Disney animated film Aladdin. The good news in this tongue in cheek question is that 57% were not sure.
