Yesterday Ron Mapes of Concord, New Hampshire wrote the following letter to the editor of the Concord Monitor:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”– Sen. Barack Obama, March 2006

I think this statement by Obama, failed leader of this nation, pretty much explains to all honest, true red-blooded American patriots who love God and country what exactly is wrong with the United States of America right now. The time for Obama’s impeachment is now; the proof is there many times over. It’s time to get rid of those we elected last time and bring in honest, faithful political leaders who have the guts to get the job done and get it done right the first time.

It’s obvious those we elected last time were bought and paid for, not elected. Wake up and get it right this time.

Mr Mapes selectively quotes then Senator Obama’s speech of 16 March 2006 on the floor of the United States Senate. The full text of that speech is archived here at Snopes.com. The point the letter writer is trying to make is not a simple one, however, We, Ourselves, see the message as very clear. President Obama, to Mr Mapes and millions of other like minded Americans, is not an honest person. To the conservative element bent on having its way despite being a retrograde minority view sees the 44th President of the United States as the antithesis of a “true red blooded American patriot.” The leader of the free world therefore to the far right does not love the G-d that all conservative white Americans worship on this very day. And most definitively this man that was twice elected President does not love the country despite garnering 135 million votes in those two elections and presiding over the most difficult economic recovery in American since the Great Depression.

Mapes says the time for Impeachment of the sitting president is now. We, Ourselves of The Collective and the Meditators feel America, to use a popular colloquialism has bigger fish to fry. We believe that those who believe as this man does are fighting a war long lost on behalf of the memory of those long dead who reaped the benefits of generations of misogyny, bigotry and power concentrated in the hands of a tribally loyal few. The Collective understands that there is huge profit in telling people with closed minds exactly what they want to hear. Rush Limbaugh has made a career of doing just that. We, Ourselves, would ask you, the reader of this post, what has Limbaugh ever offered as a solution to any of the problems that America has today? Better, when his ideology ruled in Washington did he do anything other than to support his side blindly?

The Meditators often ask why people, no matter how tribally motivated do such things? We ask the same question in regard to minority violence in urban centers all across America? But unlike the far right which seeks only to blame others for its ills while offering nothing new as a solution, We Ourselves do strive to put measures forth to stem the suffering of the American middle class. Ron Mapes ideology is not the disease it is a symptom of the inability for a segment of America not to be able to let go of the need to have someone to struggle against vice joining the fight for Progress. Trillions have been wasted on the War on Drugs and the War on Poverty which were doomed without utilizing the proper tools. The solutions to both are legalization and education. To be a member of free society demands both responsibility and sacrifice and to that end ideological conservatives and thugs that want to hurt people and damage property are joined at the hip. Neither see what they are doing to their reputations as a group as harm because they are enjoying their moment in the sun.

Impeachment is not the solution to the problems that Ron Mapes sees that are a cancer in America, because Obama is not the problem. The problem in America now is that the conservative ideologues on Main Street USA have taken the Middle Class hostage piled them onto a train speeding toward a mountain tunnel where the poor are forced to roam and are smiling all the way to the bank with overflowing campaign coffers thanks to Citizens United. If you want more freedom and prosperity in America do not vote for the party that wants to send America back to back alley abortions, racial segregation and criminal prosecutions for LGBT persons; vote for a party that wants all people to be at least middle class and if you falter will be there with a safety net to allow you to reach for the brass ring. Bruce Currie who comments on the letter makes the obvious even more clear:\

This letter illustrates the extent to which some in this country are completely divorced from reality–when it comes to economics, politics, and virtually anything that requires coherent thought. That’s a summary description of those who identify as Tea Party members or their fellow travelers. Ted Cruz and his merry band of pranksters have led the Republican Party to the brink–and are taking the country with it. They’re getting hammered in the polls, and dragging the greater Republican Party down with them. Their recklessness is hurting millions of Americans who depend on the government, and yet we have some here who are cheering them on, and blaming the president and the Democrats for what is entirely the fault of a few extremist Republicans. Have they no appreciation for facts and the truth? Have they no shame?

Does this sound familiar?

POINT-COUNTERPOINT: MITCH AND CLUSTER ON SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND THE CURIOUS NATURE OF AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE HOMOPHOBIA

From Mark Noonan’s odd attempt at storming the same sex marriage barricades with the aid of French conservatives MitchEtheKid rings the nell of liberty:

Lets try again.

OK. But ask your fellow conservatives if they do in fact support civil unions. A legal contract that affords same sex couples all of the rights, traditions, privilege’s, heartache and misery of what is understood to be defined by a word: Marriage. It’s a word, a description of a state of being. It is not an absolute nor is it impervious to nuance. There are many advertizements [sic] that use the word marriage in reference to their product(s). A marriage between peanut butter and chocolate. A marriage between mustard and mayonnaise with a hunk of protein in the middle. The argument has now devolved into a defense of a word by applying a singular meaning to it, and a more robust defense of the ambiguity of language is my personal reaction to it.
I am very prejudicial about homosexuality. The very image of it repulses me and I don’t understand some of my male friends being turned on by lipstick lesbians but the spiritual aspect of a loving relationship between same sex couples effects me not one iota and whom am I to dictate what or does not comprise a truly loving, caring relationship. I don’t know the ratio of divorce between hetero and gay couples, but if I were to guess, I’d bet on the side of it being relatively even. I could be wrong though. Gay’s experience allot more social hostility just because they are outside of the norm than hetero couples. And I wholly agree that homosexuality is the exception to the gene pool, but again, so what? For example, Neo is always going on about sodomy. And in this one instance: about the exit being the entrance, I agree but he always omits females. Why is that Neo? Are you that closed minded to exclude women from your equation? It’s just another example of the closed mindedness that the extreme right suffers from when it comes to (no pun intended) a changing definition of; and acceptance thereof, a fluid society that ebbs and flows from what is considered to be normal and what is considered to be deviant. History tells us that the Greeks and Romans were wildly sexual. Do you condemn them or just pass it off with no further investigation? Especially if their historical contributions substantiate your insistence that a religious predicate from ancient times is the bedrock of your political ideology. There’s a conflict boys and girls, and one that can’t be ignored. Ever see (or read) A Clockwork Orange?
Here is a link to an elderly French Citizen who in protest over the acceptance of same sex marriage in France, put a gun in his mouth and blew his skull out. Now I ask you, is he a martyr? A crazy person? Did he think his suicide would alter the course of social history? Be talked about in reverential terms after his death and therefore give him some comfort in his last living moments? No. He was a homophobic who was incapable of addressing his irrational hatred of a changing society and rather than coming to terms with his own being, he chose self inflicted death as an easy alternative. He’s no different than any other coward. Or abortion doctor murderer.
Society has changed, and like Wm F Buckley once said, (and I paraphrase) too many conservatives stand athwart both history and the future yelling stop. It can’t, it won’t and it’s not listening to you,me or anyone else. It just keeps on being on.

As if that weren’t enough to fill your culture wars belly for an evening Cluster [yes that same B4V Cluster] brings in the Baked Alaska in response to Neocon!!

And I gotta tell you neocon, that if you choose to exclude same sex unions from being recognized in any way by the state and not allow them legal rights based on moral grounds, you not only lose that entire voting base, but you lose the voting base of those who are sympathetic to their plight, which is HUGE, and comprises most of the younger generation.

A daring post from a Liberal commenter both here and at Blogs4Victory. This should be any Progressive’s first read this morning:

Thanks for mentioning our conversations Cluster. I appreciate it. I think that Amazona is correct in saying that social issues should not be the focus of any government, let alone one based upon conservative precepts. To take that statement to its logical conclusion, we all should be libertarian, as long as we do not devolve into anarchy. Unfortunately this is not the case. There are many, to many IMO, that are obsessed with social issues and use the government and it’s law making and law enforcing power to enact both restrictions and allowances. I am not a constitutional expert. I have a DAR manual that I look at from time to time but mostly for a point of clarification. I agree that it is a brilliantly written document and that the authors had enough forethought and enlightenment to be cognizant of the future. But it is also a product of it’s time, written by human beings who were every bit as complicated and flawed and brilliant and tragic as anyone living today. The essence of all words, as a conveyance of thinking, is metaphorical. (A word itself.) And as such, the words are subject to interpretation. An argument can be made that the “intent” that Amazona mentioned, is nothing more than learned guessing. (Emphasis on ned in learned.) One of the functions of the Supreme Court, is to interpret the meaning of the language that comprises the Constitution, by way of a shared consensus of opinion between a quorum of justices.
But in a representative government, if a social issue is a concern, then it does become subject to legislation. This has been a fact throughout human history. We do not live in a vacuum (no pun intended towards those who doubt my aviator skills) and in 2013 there are over 300 million people who live in the US. In 1776 there were ~ 2.5 and were primarily agrarian.
I think that conservative principals are the best choice where the issue(s) are economic in nature. But I do not disparage a degreed economist who happens to have a more fundamental understanding of the dynamics of a multi-trillion economy and how it interacts not only with those that have a dollar in their pocket, but now amongst the entire planet as well.
As I see it, it is not the educational system that is to blame, or the inherent bias that all people and businesses possess that is the root of the problems conservatism is experiencing, it is the behavior, the claims and the reporting of it. A few examples exist on this blog alone. Retired Spook going on about transformation. Society, culture and politics are fluid, not static. Please provide some specific examples Retired Spook, of how our country is suffering from the progressive nature of time and the changing attitudes of the population. There are very few examples that my feeble brain can come up with that verify your conviction that an uber left even exists, let alone paint with such broad strokes this “intense dislike of how America was founded.” Just how was it founded? Not why, but how. And why do you stereotype? Not all “liberals” are America hating. In fact, most people desire a better America, not a worse one.
Amazona’s use of inflammatory adjectives as a method of demeaning and undermining alternative points of view. And her obsession with spelling, grammar and punctuation. (I write the way I speak, commas substituting for pauses.)
I won’t even address Neo. There isn’t a better representative for the fanatical, fringe extreme that gives conservatives a bad reputation than he. Conservatism isn’t the problem. It’s conservatives.
I am a supporter of smaller government. I do not think excessive regulation(s) are a good thing. I think local control is superior to national but I also recognize the duplicity that currently exists on the right, how traditional conservatism has been eviscerated by a pandering to a certain type of uninformed and fearful individual and how tribalism has been exploited to further the monetary goals of others. This is the human condition. This is what Machiavelli often referred to and encouraged. I think that for conservatism to make a resurgence, it has to go through a metamorphosis. Unfortunately for those currently experiencing this change, it is a difficult process and it is perfectly understandable to want to blame those that don’t subscribe to the ideology, whom are not fixated with blaming the “media” or contemporary popular culture for their poor and declining image. There is a difference between cooperation and capitulation. This demarcation applies to all sides of the political grid. Self examination is a positive. A refusal to accept the need to change is not. And this applies to everyone on both a personal level and as a member of a group.
OK. I think I will slither back into my hole now.
