Yesterday at about 8 in the morning on the east coast, the Xerox Corporation ran a diagnostic test on the computer systems that control the SNAP/EBT card system in the majority of states in America. The result of that test was the system failed and was down for nearly 24 hours. Many on the right saw this as a clear moment of political tumescence beginning their shouting of “impending riots” from the rooftops of the digital cities.

The conservatives wanted me to be writing about the “breaking news’ that Cleveland, Ohio, Atlanta, Georgia and Richmond, Virginia were all ablaze and that innocent Americans were now the victims of brown and black violence because their “free stuff” was taken from them. I am not writing that article this morning because this violence as much as it was desired by the right did not happen. What did happen was many women with children who could not get food for them left stores crying and conservatives laughed in the comfort of their closed minds.
