Mark Noonan asks a trap question at B4V:

“Which is worse: a democracy where minorities are oppressed or a dictatorship where minorities are protected?”

His question is really, “Do you dislike Obama more or miss Reagan more?” Since America isn’t and never will be a “democracy” the question is moot. Since the United States has checks and balances across the three branches of government it is not a dictatorship no matter how much white religious conservative dislike the first person of color elected as Chief Executive of the United States Government. And finally since Catholicsim isn’t and will never be the State religion of the United States, Mark Noonan can once again go and pound sand.

I replied thusly:

From what I gather here Mark in your post you seem to be admitting that those with conservative values, regardless of race, are now the minority in America. I think that as you define what conservative is you are accurate there. I also agree that you have the right to be as “Catholic as you want to be.” What likely, and I am just guessing here, irks you is that you cannot carry out your mission of being as Catholic as you want to be in places like the office where you work. Until such activity is allowed in the workplace you will never feel that you have all the religious rights that you feel you deserve. I have to say that you do have the right to be as Catholic as you want to be 24/7/365 but your employer also has a right to fire you for disrupting his office or for any other reason he needs to rid himself or herself of a destabilizing individual in their corporate midst. Same would apply to a Muslim, a Hindu, a Protestant, a Jew, a Zoroastrian, a Satanist, a Jainist or an Atheist. I love the Constitution more than you do Mark Noonan and I’m not even American!

And yes I had a wonderful vacation, thank you.

Sometimes getting what you think you want has adverse consequences. For the last two Presidential elections cycles the GOP has recognized, with surprising clarity, just what they need to do to become electable at the national level. They realized in the autopsy of the 2008 campaign that they have miles and miles to go to appeal to blacks and Latinos. In the autopsy of the 2012 election they realized they have a long way to go in appealing to virtually everyone who isn’t white, males, Christian and over the age of 45.

It appears now that a few counties in Colorado want to secede from the state over ranch land right and gun control measures that have passed in the state legislature and become law. Mark Noonan at Blogs4Victory now wants to explain how secession can help his political ideology survive either becoming a regional party or the hollowed out husk of blue blood bigotry when it whelps the TEA Party’s coming third party the Conservative Christian Party:

To me, its not even so much a matter of being fed up with leftists (though there is that), but a matter of practical politics. The States – especially the Western States, but in some sense all of them except a few on the eastern seaboard) were rather cobbled together, mostly when hardly anyone lived in them. Over the past 100 years, especially, as the land became firmly settled and economically exploited, there has arisen a great deal of divergence of interests within the States. The prime case in point is California, both Senators coming from the San Francisco area…and, as such, they vigorously and ably represent the interests of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento. On the other hand, they don’t do squat for San Diego and Fresno. The fact of the matter is that there were less than 100,000 Americans living in California when it became a State – and the overwhelming bulk of them lived in the San Francisco/Sacramento area. Now that California has nearly 40 million people, it is absurd to think the entire interests of the State can be effectively represented by two Senators…especially when population dictates that within California, whomever can win Los Angeles and San Francisco wins the whole State, even if large majorities elsewhere vote against.

Secession is the answer – for a lot of the States. California probably needs to be broken in to four States (South California, West California, West Nevada and South Oregon); Nevada needs to be broken in two (North and South Nevada – South Nevada being gaming and tourism, North Nevada being mining and ranching); Florida needs to be East and West Florida; New York to be North New York and South New York; Illinois, North Illinois and South Illinois. On and on it goes – we should probably have about 60-62 States (upwards of 64 if we make Puerto Rico and Guam in to States, as they probably should be). We should also increase the House to 601 members, and increase the size of the Supreme Court to 13 (but not until after Obama is out – don’t want him appointing 4!). It might seem counter-intuitive that in an era of too much government that we should be, essentially, creating more of it – but this is different. This is ensuring that the government is responsive to the will of the people and the interests of the States. On balance, the political advantages would be mostly equal, with a slight edge to the conservative side (while West Florida would almost certainly return two conservative Senators, Democrats would have a strong chance of picking up both senators from East Floria, etc).

Keep in mind Noonan isn’t advocating a “kill the liberals” violent secession. He wants to do it by way of the ballot and Constitution and there’s nothing wrong with that. I have to give Noonan his props because he has figured out a way to keep the GOP from completely going south, pun intended. If he can get all those states created before the 2016 election the GOP would likely keep the House and capture the Senate before the 2020 Census. They might even change the electoral math enough to keep the 2016 election from being a complete blowout in Hillary Clinton’s favor were she to run.

The other thing on my mind this morning is the story of the Joshua Independent School District in Joshua, Texas who pulled the plug on their valedictorian speaker when he deviated from his approved graduation speech in favor of talking about his constitutional rights. Now as a journalist I understand this school district in a very white and very conservative part of Texas has their rules that must be respected. This kid is going to the Naval Academy and is not going to have any such rule breaking in the name of free speech luxury for quite some time to come. I realize that he felt this was going to be his last chance while a student to make a political point to the powers that ruled over him for four years and in his attempt to utilize his first amendment rights I applaud him, even though I disagree with his conservative TEA Party message.

hindsight 2218
In Hindsight

The conservatives in Joshua, Texas made these rules to keep liberal kids, minority kids, and gay kids silent on the real nature of their commnity and now when someone want to go off on a TEA Party rant the conservatives have become the ultimate censors.

From Mark Noonan’s odd attempt at storming the same sex marriage barricades with the aid of French conservatives MitchEtheKid rings the nell of liberty:

Lets try again.

OK. But ask your fellow conservatives if they do in fact support civil unions. A legal contract that affords same sex couples all of the rights, traditions, privilege’s, heartache and misery of what is understood to be defined by a word: Marriage. It’s a word, a description of a state of being. It is not an absolute nor is it impervious to nuance. There are many advertizements [sic] that use the word marriage in reference to their product(s). A marriage between peanut butter and chocolate. A marriage between mustard and mayonnaise with a hunk of protein in the middle. The argument has now devolved into a defense of a word by applying a singular meaning to it, and a more robust defense of the ambiguity of language is my personal reaction to it.
I am very prejudicial about homosexuality. The very image of it repulses me and I don’t understand some of my male friends being turned on by lipstick lesbians but the spiritual aspect of a loving relationship between same sex couples effects me not one iota and whom am I to dictate what or does not comprise a truly loving, caring relationship. I don’t know the ratio of divorce between hetero and gay couples, but if I were to guess, I’d bet on the side of it being relatively even. I could be wrong though. Gay’s experience allot more social hostility just because they are outside of the norm than hetero couples. And I wholly agree that homosexuality is the exception to the gene pool, but again, so what? For example, Neo is always going on about sodomy. And in this one instance: about the exit being the entrance, I agree but he always omits females. Why is that Neo? Are you that closed minded to exclude women from your equation? It’s just another example of the closed mindedness that the extreme right suffers from when it comes to (no pun intended) a changing definition of; and acceptance thereof, a fluid society that ebbs and flows from what is considered to be normal and what is considered to be deviant. History tells us that the Greeks and Romans were wildly sexual. Do you condemn them or just pass it off with no further investigation? Especially if their historical contributions substantiate your insistence that a religious predicate from ancient times is the bedrock of your political ideology. There’s a conflict boys and girls, and one that can’t be ignored. Ever see (or read) A Clockwork Orange?
Here is a link to an elderly French Citizen who in protest over the acceptance of same sex marriage in France, put a gun in his mouth and blew his skull out. Now I ask you, is he a martyr? A crazy person? Did he think his suicide would alter the course of social history? Be talked about in reverential terms after his death and therefore give him some comfort in his last living moments? No. He was a homophobic who was incapable of addressing his irrational hatred of a changing society and rather than coming to terms with his own being, he chose self inflicted death as an easy alternative. He’s no different than any other coward. Or abortion doctor murderer.
Society has changed, and like Wm F Buckley once said, (and I paraphrase) too many conservatives stand athwart both history and the future yelling stop. It can’t, it won’t and it’s not listening to you,me or anyone else. It just keeps on being on.

As if that weren’t enough to fill your culture wars belly for an evening Cluster [yes that same B4V Cluster] brings in the Baked Alaska in response to Neocon!!

And I gotta tell you neocon, that if you choose to exclude same sex unions from being recognized in any way by the state and not allow them legal rights based on moral grounds, you not only lose that entire voting base, but you lose the voting base of those who are sympathetic to their plight, which is HUGE, and comprises most of the younger generation.

Over the last seven years Mark Noonan of Blogs4Victory infamy has been exposed at the political idiot that he is. Every time there has been an opportunity for the GOP to move forward toward a majority they have failed miserably. Bush should have lost in 2004 and that would have, because of scandals that would have erupted in the run for a second term and the housing bubble collapse, given the GOP the White House both in 2008 and 2012 likely no matter who the candidate was. Sit back and have a chuckle at the prediction like so many Noonan has made that went horribly wrong.

“Hello everyone! I’m back! Just want to put my two cents in. When I first heard the news I immediately thought “good pick”, but now that I’ve seen how things have played out over the last 24 hours I have to go with “inspired pick”. The clear uptick in GOP enthusiasm combined with the meltdown on the left shows that Romney hit the target.

Its going to be a great campaign and we are going to win. And, liberals, when you’re sitting there crying in y0ur [sic] beer as Biden gives a concession speech (Obama not having the guts to do it just as Kerry sent Edwards out to face the electoral music in 2004), just think it over: you signed on to this nauseating, un-American thing which will forever be known as the “2012 Obama re-election campaign”. You went down in to the lowest gutter in American history and you came up a complete loser. Maybe it will finally be time for you to reconsider your views…”

Maybe Mark Noonan would be better served reading something other than The Blaze and Breitbart?

Mark Noonan and Matt Margolis have written another book about . . . well I don’t know what it’s about yet. I have a few of the smart kids from the research department including Senior Researcher Carrie Trevillian who will begin writing her column here this week. They’re going to read the book and take it apart on a fact by fact but from what I’ve been able to see on it’s nothing more than a politcal hack job disguised as a half assed attack on a centrist President.

Here’s how I replied to the post at B4V which since it is based in fact and reason and not on religion the possession of assault rifles or doesn’t include a right to drill for oil on federal land it has been deleted. And these people say Hitler and Stalin were Liberals???

“But it occurs to me that maybe a lot of people are not understanding the purpose of the book. Its not just a hit piece of Obama – it is not designed merely to feed right wing anger, nor serve as a provocation of the left.”—Mark Edward Noonan.

Of course, it is all these things. I am not going to read the book but I’ve had a staff person here order it so we can break it down. I know you guys are tired of losing presidential elections but you do have one house of congress which you’ll likely hold until 2016. You got all your wishes when Obama was elected the first time. The economy was going south and like many conservatives you blamed Obama. You can still point to a sluggish economy today more than four years after his 2008 win. In the age of instant gratification there isn’t a single conservative that I know that doesn’t start a conversation about the US economy. Now the right is dropping the ball by focusing on this meaningless witch hunt about the Bengahzi attacks. Some have even called for Impeachment hearings. Fine. If you want the US to be a one party state when your kids are all in their 40s keep it up.

It doesn’t matter what was or was not done in Benghazi for this simple reason. Had Mitt Romney won the 2012 presidential election would any conservative still be drumbeating about hearings or Impeachment? I don’t think so even with Hillary breathing down your necks because you would have the advantage of incumbency. So to hell with Benghazi and all this fake outrage it’s just political grandstanding of the worst order. There will still be people here talking about Benghazi by July but as soon as Congress takes its summer holiday the issue will die even if Sharyl Atkisson does a strip tease reading the State Department emails on the capitol steps.

Here’s the problem I’ve got with people who really aren’t journalists or researchers but simply partisans writing books about a sitting president. if you guys were interested in the truth in politics both of you would have been drumbeating your readers to go to Nate Silver’s and read why you were going to lose unless you had a massive turnout. I told you to do that months before the election when i was calling for Obama nearly by the electoral margin he won by. None of you geniuses could see that your base was about to sit on their hands because you were too busy being rope a doped by Obama’s first debate flop. And then on election day the sucker punch. Priceless.

hindsight 2209
In Hindsight

Back in 2007 I was asked, on a talk show about US politics, to rank where George W Bush should sit as compared to all the previous presidents. I answered at the time, “I’d place him 20th today,” and the interviewer seemed shocked. She asked why i would rank him so high despite all the noise I’d made during the height of the Iraq War. My answer was simple, “The man isn’t done yet, so why would I rank him low because I disagree with his policies or a conservative to rank him hihg because they have to to seem credible as a pundit when he isn’t done yet?” I feel the same way about the current US president.

I have to admit that I admire Neocon1 for something. No matter how many times it’s pointed out to him that his sources are flawed if the information that he sees makes the case for his worldview, disparages, minorities or insults President Obama, he’ll post it. To have that sense of blind ambition is something that may serve him well here in Hell. Here’s his latest comical screed posted at Blogs4Victory:

March 25, 2013 at 9:29 am #
any sound familiar??

The Communist Takeover Of
America – 45 Declared Goals
From Greg Swank

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

I know, the smart kids in the room are rolling their eyes because they know where this is going to end. bear with me for a moment folks while I fill everyone else in on what’s happened here. The comment comes from a post made by Greg Swank at on 4 December 2002. That post is entitled “The Communist Takeover Of America – 45 Declared Goals” and details an alleged reading into the Congressional Record in 1963 by Florida Represetative A.S. Herlong Jr. the declared goals of global Communism. He got these goals sent to him by a Florida citizen, newspaper publisher and devout anti-Communist named Patricia Nordman of DeLand, Florida. I have put several staff on searching for this newspaper both here in Dis and in Florida and no existence of such a newspaper has been recovered. Also, there is nothing that I can find from the Congressional Record of the 88th Congress to support that this was ever read into the record.

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policy-making positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [“]united force[“] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

These “Communist goals” have been touted at one point by Glenn Beck, but curiously that link has been broken and the record of it being posted only appears in the archives. The origin of this list [shown in full above] is from a book written in 1958 by W. Cleon Skousen called The Naked Communist. Likie much of Skousen’s works this list was a reaction to the very beginning of the decline of White Privilege in America. The far Right elements of American Conservatism have latched on to this list as “proof” that Communism is taking over America. This is important to document because it tells us something about the nature of the far Right in America today.

The people that are shouting at the top of their lungs from the Right about Obama being a Socialist and that Communists are everywhere in government, in schools and in churches come from a generation when the biggest baddest thing that could destroy their way of life was that demon called Communism. In thirty years, bigots newly minted in the fearful lustrum of years following the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centers in New York City will be doing the same in regard to apostate Islamic terrorism even if like Communism the threat no longer exists. Neocon1 is a child of the middle of the last century. He went to war in Vietnam because the old white men in power at the time told him to go to war. He returned to a country severely divided not only on the war, but on women’s rights, gay rights, civil rights for minorities, what to do about the poor and a myriad of other social issues. Today Neocon1 still cannot let go of that struggle that defined him in the time when he came of age. Communism is a safe word for him to use to vent his anger when really what he wants to say is, Why is the color of my skin no longer a key that opens all doors?”

The world, the America, of Neocon1’s youth is dead and America is better off for it. Everyday another lobe of the cancer that is conservatism is snipped away, not by a Communist plot, but by cooler, more rational heads both within and outside of government. In less than 100 years America has transformed from a nation that would have suited Bill Logan Sr [aka Neocon1] very well where a man because of the color of his skin could murder a man in his own front yard, leaving him to bleed to death in the arms of his wife, and walk free for decades, into a nation where a simple disparaging comment against a person of color is generally met with a measure of brutal disdain both civilly and economically. And yet there is still much more Progress to be made.

Posted in 2012 US ELECTION, BLOGS 4 VICTORY, MARK EDWARD NOONAN with tags , , , , , on 03/11/2012 by Majordomo Pain

Mark Edward Noonan, noted convert to Distributism writes in support of Bishop Daniel Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria, Illinois and a letter he sent to be read at mass to all his parishes. The introduction to the letter is curiously left out of a quote of the body by Mark Edward Noonan:

By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your Bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each Weekend Mass, November 3/4.

There are those who feel this is an order to vote on the upcoming Election Day, however, We, Ourselves of the Collective see it as a threat upon the Souls of those faithful to vote for Mitt Romney under the pain of being a supporter of “grave sin”:

Neither the president of the United States nor the current majority of the Federal Senate have been willing to even consider the Catholic community’s grave objections to those HHS mandates that would require all Catholic institutions, exempting only our church buildings, to fund abortion, sterilization, and artificial contraception. This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system. Contrary to the guarantees embedded in the First Amendment, the HHS mandates attempt to now narrowly define and thereby drastically limit our traditional religious works. They grossly and intentionally intrude upon the deeply held moral convictions that have always guided our Catholic schools, hospitals, and other apostolic ministries.

In Mark Noonan’s own words:

Christ is my King. The nation and my family are of exceptional importance, but we all owe God primary loyalty.

At all events, the Bishop is only pointing out a basic truth here in 2012: No Catholic – no Christian – can in good conscience vote for anyone who is not firmly on the side of life. This means that anyone who says they are a Christian must pray and ponder over this fact: Barack Obama and his Democrats are committed to the Culture of Death and thus are unworthy of Christian votes.

Noonan makes a clear definition of his loyalty. He has taken an oath to his religion over that of his nation state therefore in all matters his touchstone is his faith not the laws of the United States of America; this is his right as a free citizen of the United States. What Mr Noonan and those who think and believe like him cannot be allowed to do is enact laws that would place his religion above the freedom and liberty of those who do not. Such an enaction would be akin to the rise of Sharia Law which Noonan and other radical Conservatives fear is on the march to make white Conservative Americans once and finally slaves to darker skinned and blood thirsty masters. We, Ourselves ask how is this belief by Noonan and other Conservative catholic apologists different from those deemed religious fanatics of other religions?

We harbour no racial or religious bigotry; these attributes are not a part of Our makeup. They are quite impossible for Us as they have no rational or actual basis in fact. Neocon regularly shows through his words his bigotry toward black Americans, gays and lesbians and anyone who isn’t white Catholic and Conservative yet you as a hypocrite allow these things to stand and only occasionally when your blog would be branded a hate site do you slap him upon the wrist. This action is a heavy stone upon your Soul.

People make decisions as groups for the interest of that group whether it be a nation state, a religion or a political party. We, Ourselves, of The Collective and the Meditators know that there are bad actors that are accepted members of groups that from time to time have their evil exposed to the sunlight of Truth. Richard Nixon allowed his desire to be loved by the people to turn into blind ambition that nearly destroyed the US presidency. Bill Clinton’s desire to possess women nearly brought him down as well. The Catholic Church, to maintain control over its flock sacrificed the innocence of thousands upon thousands of boys and girls in the name of power and control. The difference here is your religion despite its corruption is innocent in your eyes because you have been deluded into the belief that this is the only means by which you may become Divine after Death. Yet when an apostate Muslim goes against the teaching of the Qu’ran you hold the opinion that all Muslims believe and act this way. One must consider that the way of life in the slums of Damascus are different from that in the suburbs of Las Vegas. An honest man would ask why that is so vice being so thin skinned as to become foolish enough to think that a church run by men cannot be corrupted by the desire to have sex with children. Where in the Bible is the rationalization that such heinous things are commanded from G-d?

Here’s the video that Mark Noonan at Blogs 4 Victory trumpets as proof that “Christian, especially Catholic voters were fooled,” in the 2008 campaign for President of the United States:

Obama and Co very much want to fool Christians, again. He managed the trick in 2008 – and not just with Catholics, as Obama did relatively well among self-identified Evangelicals, as well. As the video states, Obama is counting on our ignorance – on the ignorance of Christians, themselves – in order to sucker us to vote for him. My view: in 2012, our theme song will be “Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

Shocking? Not really. I would expect something like this from Noonan a man who has, in his own mind, nothing but the most rigid and controlling religion to keep him from exploding in a fit of loss of self control. Voris is most noted for this comment and that the Archdiocese of Detroit has ask him and his employer to cease using the word Catholic in their webcast title:

“The cancer must be eliminated, and the only way to prevent a democracy from committing suicide is to limit the vote to faithful Catholics. Only a true Catholic nation in fact will survive, can survive, because only truly Catholic people will be the ones looking at God & not staring in the mirror. When they cast their their votes, they cast them with an eye to what God desires, not fallen human nature. But as the body politic continues to be ravaged by the cancer of ignorant self-centered voters, it becomes more and more clear that a national euthanasia is occurring.”

I was milling through some of the writings from the American Right this morning and came across this post, from Mark Noonan at Blogs4Victory. Once again, Mr Noonan looks at politics and society through a thin prism of a religion he hasn’t held all his life, but is comfortable to him in middle age. To anyone here in Hell, politics and religion stand on opposite sides of a clearly defined spectrum. Politics is public; religion is personal. And never should the twain ever meet.

This reply to a comment stood out to me because it defines why the Right are failing to attract moderates and young people to their ranks in these modern times:

It is a Biblical principal that those who do not work shall not eat (2 Thessalonians 3:10) – so, anyone who is capable of work must work, or starve. However, those who cannot work must be provided for in their entirety – regardless of cost and even if providing it has a detrimental effect on the overall economy. Additionally, those who can work but simply cannot find work must be provided for – though for such persons the level of support must be kept below what can be obtained by the least remunerative job available, lest people choose not to work because welfare pays as much as (or more) than working in some cases.

It is not possible for the federal government – remote as it is from the day to day lives of the people and lacking in sufficient knowledge of the needs and desires of the people – to intervene directly in the sustenance of individuals. But if a locality is stricken and unable to provide for all of the local people then it is the moral duty of the federal government to provide what aid proves necessary so that local individuals and groups can see to it that no one lacks the necessities of life.

Now Mr Noonan is a Catholic and from his writings I gather that he feels that America is a Christian nation and that all the citizens of that nation should be governed by laws that descend from Christian beliefs. Fine. Then I suggest that all laws be based this way and that they be carried out by the letter of that belief rather than by interpretation. That bit of scripture that Noonan uses as his cornerstone isn’t fluid or flexible it is brutally clear. “If you don’t work, you do not eat,” leaves no room for a social safety net. it also doesn’t leave room for those who are infirmed to be cared for as Mr Noonan suggests. It is a res ipsa loquitur mandate for those who believe as he does that eating is for the sound of body beacuase they are the only ones who can work.

Okay, let’s play this little game Mr Noonan. Now work is to mandated for all those who are able, men and women. Now with this directive comes an additional one–corporations must hire fully to meet this religio-political obligation. Now that would be a good thing to be sure! But think of all those people who cannot find work suited to them. There are so many things that need to be done but many if not most of the jobs do not pay high salaries or even ones that would allow for the middle class lifestyles that most Americans have come to be accustomed. Everyone can’t be a doctor or an engineer so many with the aptitude would find themselves working and earning but at unfulfilling jobs they are forced to do by a government trying to adhere to religious doctrine.

The Noonanites over at B4V are always going on about communism and socialism but this sort of thinking– one which directs society from the pulpit, is nothing more than a similar wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is the seed of fascism in its most glorious and conservative Sunday go to meeting suit. The problem with these sorts of ideas from the Right is they do not say who makes the decisions even in this simple example. The conversation isn’t at all about work but how much those on the Right love money and wish to keep theirs at the expense of the greater society. Noonan’s religious followers would have women and children dying in the streets based on biblical teaching while casting a blind eye to the most basic economics of the situation. In the end Noona replaces marie Antoinette with a cardinal who utters the same words, “Let them eat cake.”

Qu’ul cuda praedex nihil!

It’s nice to see that Mark Noonan is back at Blogs4Victory. I find it a weird name for that blog because they really haven’t won anything save for the House in 2010 and this blog was called Blogs For Bush before the 2008 Presidential election. The rise of the TEA party energized the commenters and some of the posters after the election of Barack Obama but all the site has really done is tack more to the Right over the past three years. Now Mark Noonan the guy who hung his hat on the “collapse of the dollar” and the “implosion of the Chinese economy” is back with more “facts” for wingnuts.

In one of his first posts since returning to B4V he writes:

The thing about un-plugging for a little while – especially if you make an effort to really shut your ears to popular culture – is that in the silence, thought can grow. We are relentlessly bombarded through our waking hours by sounds and images created by others in an attempt to get us to say or do something we might not do purely voluntarily. This bombardment comes at us so fast that we do not have time to reflect upon what we have just seen – if you do desire to think about things for a moment, another sound or image is thrown at you, demanding your attention, and thus destroying the possibility of thinking through the immediately preceding sound or image.

If you shut your ears to popular culture you are in essence admitting you are out of touch. I know Mark, you’ve had some struggles with a certain elelment of pictures and videos that are out there on the big bad Internet, but that doesn’t mean that less information is better than more. I don’t think the Internet or the digital media is intended to get people to do or say things that they otherwise wouldn’t. if you have a weak mind that might be the case. It’s my opinion that these tools, and that’s all they really are, exist to provide more information. Some of that information comes through a filter of the provider’s choice whether that be economic or ideological and some is quite raw leaving opinions up to the reader. An intelligent person can figure out the difference.

What most people are looking for in this buzz of info is the Truth. It’s capitalized for a reason because truth can become what the writer wants it to be rather than what it is universally. Religion and politics can reduce Truth to truth in a New York minute, or nanoseconds by today’s fast moving standard.

As Noonan’s return article continues I’m given the impression that he feels no love for advertisers. The thought that BBDO or Saatchi & Saatchi “bamboozle” people into buying Crest vice Colgate toothpaste is childish at best. But isn’t this what conservatives like the most simplistic and base explanations for those things that they can’t understand? What this portion of his article does tell me is that Noonan isn’t a proponent of information freedom or of the People having a thing called Choice.

Conservatives loathe choice. They would prefer to have there be no Brand Y since their product Brand X is all you’ll ever need. They feel this way about women’s health, religion, race, foreign policy . . . Well you get the picture. One key tenet of Liberalsim is Choice. The freedom to do what you choose within the law is they very basis of Liberal belief. It’s not always the most correct path, but it does provide the most options.

In Hindsight

I didn’t expect anything better out of Mark Noonan and I must admit it’s good to have him back on the barricades shouting for the right for conservatives to tell everyone else what to do, how to act, whom to marry and just how good it is and how fortunate the middle class is to have a 1% who don’t carry as much water as ther do.

Pax Terra!
