LES KINSOLVING’S RESEARCH FAIL

Two things many of you know but for the uninitiated I will share. I am a researcher. What I do for this newspaper is find information, the real factual kind, in support of the articles written here and in the hardcopy version of this paper which circulates all over Hell. When doing research I and my staff are required to find three sources of information to verify any tips that come in on a story. if we have two we don’t run it. If we have four that cannot be verified we don’t run it. Are we all clear on that.

Now WorldNetDaily isn’t a newspaper that stands on the principles of journalism because it runs stories designed to titillate and delight a segment of the conservative base who feels their future depends on “taking back America.” Yeah, I know it’s crazy what those folks do but they pretend to be a real hard news site so I’m going to hold them to the rules of journalism. This is a game they will lose.

Les Kinsolving published an article this morning about the guest preacher at the National Cathedral on 22 June 2014. The guest preacher was Cameron Partridge, the first transgender pastor ever to take the pulpit at the National Cathedral. Kinsolving then proceeded to tie this event to the slippery slope that fundamentalist conservatives slide down whenever they are confronted with a first in the LGBT community. He wonders when the first polygamist preacher would be invited to the National Cathedral. [Not to be considered misogynist, he throws in polyandrist as well.] Kinsolving then trots down the well beaten path about necrophiliacs and pedophiles and why they aren’t represented because to the far right all these things are the same thing.

Then the conservative writer states that he has read somewhere, “that 30 alternative sexual orientations are federally protected by the so-called Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, S. 909, and the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, H.R. 1913.” The thing that bothers me is that Kinsolving makes no effort to cite just where he read that inaccurate statement. What angers me is that Kinsolving likely knows full well where that inaccurate statement came from. It appeared in an email sent to millions of gullible donors as a part of the 2009 smear campaign run by Donald Wildmon of the American Family Association. It is the one and only place of origin on the internet that I or any of my staff can find. Wildmon was even quoted by Rep Louie Gohmert chapter and verse in a press conference in April 2009.

In Hindsight

So what we have here is a simple case of one ideological liar being quoted by another ideological liar. Not journalism; bigoted propaganda dressed up as tabloid stupidity. The Culture War is over and the Progressives won. We just have to wait a while to have a really cool parade!
