FROM THE DESK OF THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: EAT THE PIOUS; ISLAMIC TERRORISTS AS THE ENTREE AND RACHEL ALEXANDER AS DESSERT

The title applies to both those who are willing to commit violence in the name of a broken and fundamentally flawed belief that they are somehow closer to the Creator of the Universe than anyone else based solely on their traditions of worship and to those who because of their political ideology feel that they are morally superior, superior in class and are superior because of the random luck associated with where they were born [in this case this would be the United States of America].

For the former you can see the ignorance and arrogance of religion based hatred in the actions of Somali terrorists who feel they are doing the work of the Creator by shooting up a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya and killing 68 people. The same ignorance and arrogance comes from the Right ideologically who are angered that the suffering of their religion of convenience is being ignored in Pakistan after Islamic apostates bombed a Christian church in Peshawar. Yes, there is outrage that the killing of large numbers of what Conservative Americans feel is the “one true religion” half a world away is more important than an ongoing hostage crisis a quarter of a world away. In the politically poliraized United States of America it has gotten this bad.

I hold an example one of the moral exemplars of skewed belief in religion, class and exceptionalism from the Right in the United States in the form of Christian Post op-ed contributor Rachel Alexander. In her post, littered with nuggets of class hatred, bigotry and malice toward many for the benefit of keeping aging conservative base voters from thinking about their soon to come demise at the hands of the undefeated inevitability of Death, Alexander makes this claim:

For too long, the left has held up the poor as an emotional lure to get knee-jerk support for their policies. It has worked, and now the poor have everything available to them, while the middle class is going without. The poor receive food stamps and can buy steak, fast food, and expensive food that the lower middle class cannot afford. The poor qualify for Medicaid to cover their healthcare, while the middle class is stuck with unaffordable Obamacare. The poor can live in Section 8 free or reduced income housing. The lower middle class has no such assistance and instead has been hit with foreclosures.

This is not a new tack for those on the political Right in America. The appeal to base voters that the Left has no substance and can only appeal to the emotions of their voters has often been trotted out in times of electoral peril by the Right. I would only have to point out the worship of armed men and women who go to war as demi-gods, reverence for a dyed piece of cloth as if were some sort of living divine icon and the notion that the Creator of the Universe meant that people born an ocean away from the land in which they live now would become exceptional if they only took that land away from the inhabitants of the age and brought in slave labor from yet another continent. Alexander earns the right to be devoured by the rational also by simply appealing to the deity she and most other Conservatives worship one made of gold and firing cruise missiles out of every orifice and giving birth to lies so numerous they cannot be seen by the faithful as anything other than the Truth. The poor cannot use their SNAP benefits to buy fast food as it is cook and is one of the many things [like alcohol tobacco and toilet paper] that are prohibited SNAP items. The writer also forget that the average SNAP benefit is around $133 per month/ per person in a household. Rachel Alexander is too “moral” to state that she just wants those who, do not worship the violence of guns as she does, is not white and upper middle class like she is, and does not believe in a certain deity as she does, to simply slink off and starve to death. There are millions of those who agree with Rachel Alexander in America and despite their cowardice regarding physical violence they are just as deadly and dangerous with their words and lack of intellectual honesty as the hijackers who destroyed the facade of American exceptionalism on 11 September 2001.

I’ll make this brief. I was reading B4V as I do everyday and came across this post by Mark Noonan proving once again he knows nothing about realpolitk. Since this post is about Syria it give Neocon1 one a chance to show just how big a bigot he is:

WINGNUT ROUNDUP: DECONSTRUCTING THEODORE SHOEBAT

As much as Sarah Bloch would like to think so, simply because Barack Obama is President of the United States, the Culture Wars in America haven’t come to an end. As long as there are people like Theodore Shoebat in America to keep the conservative base riled up with lies and deceptions about people they don;t like because they ain’t white and Christian there will an ongoing verbal and unilaterally intellectual war going on between Progressives and the Conservatives. I’ve asked before where are all the urban twentysomething conservatives in America but I hadn’t asked anyone, at least recently, if they had heard from a post retirement age Progressive. I know many living in the United States right now but still have yet to find the Bible thumping conservative in Brooklyn aged 25.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, let’s take a look at the wingnut of the day. I introduce to you Theodore Shoebat, son of fake ex-terrorist Walid Shoebat a man who has sucked more money out of the pockets of unsuspecting conservative rubes than a flood vehicle. I have been called the CarFax of the Internet by colleagues before so now it’s high time to see the CarFax on the younger Shoebat.

Theodore begins his angry screed about the LGBTQ community entitled, “The Homosexual Empire” with this:

What is the homosexual agenda about? It is about conquest, and the persecution of Christians. Just by perusing today’s news, it is easily found that this reality continues to expose itself as the sodomites proceed to advance their despotic ideology.

Hoover-Tolson-2

Yeah, I know, this is too easy. Most of these nuts prey on older white middle class people near or over retirement age who fear for the safety of their Bibles, guns and families, in that order. So to say they are going to be “conquered” by a “homosexual agenda” rekindles in their minds the worst things one could think of having grown up and come of age in the 1950s and 1960s. Shoebat in this few lines makes himself the equal to Lester Maddox, Bull Conner and all the other odious characters who tried to keep black citizens in a second or even third class status in the South in the post World War 2 era. Are there ideologues among those campaigning for LGBTQ rights? Sure. Do these people have an agenda for America that goes beyond wanting the same freedoms and liberties enjoyed by the straight majority? No.

Well, Theodore Shoebat wouldn’t be satisfied unless, for the pure love of lucre, he made the point that the LGBTQ community wants to wage war on Christians, destroy the religion and then go about sodomizing anyone who remains until they have forgotten all about being conservative or loving guns more than they care about the plight of the poor. Shoebat quotes Michael Swift’s 1987 article entitled “Gay Revolutionary” [without giving citation I’ll come to the importance of that in a bit.–F.S. ] calling it instead “The Gay Manifesto” [because you know only people who mean deadly business against white Christians write manifestos.–F.S.] where Swift writes:

We shall sodomize your sons, emblems of your feeble masculinity, of your shallow dreams and vulgar lies. We shall seduce them in your schools, in your dormitories, in your gymnasiums, in your locker rooms, in your sports arenas, in your seminaries, in your youth groups, in your movie theater bathrooms, in your army bunkhouses, in your truck stops, in your all male clubs, in your houses of Congress, wherever men are with men together. Your sons shall become our minions and do our bidding. They will be recast in our image. They will come to crave and adore us. … We shall raise vast private armies, as Mishima did, to defeat you. We shall conquer the world because warriors inspired by and banded together by homosexual love and honor are invincible as were the ancient Greek soldiers.

For the average conservative in the flyover states that should be all they need to read! I would be willing to bet an aureus against every dollar that after getting to this point in the article and nodding knowingly in the fact that only bad people they don’t know and love go to Hell that at least 100 fools reached for their debt cards to send Shoebat’s fraudulent “foundation” at least five bucks. What else in all of Creation could they possibly need to know. “It’s in the manifesto honey I’m sure as the Gospel that this is true!” I’m sure they shouted as they checked their bank account to see how much of their Social Security was left.

hindsight 2260
In Hindsight

Shoebat fails miserably here though. In his little bibliography at the end of the post he leaves out any citiation for Michael Swift’s “manifesto.” Oh, you wonder why that is? it’s because it isn’t serious at all it is satirical. To give credit and allow the rheumy eyed base of conservatism in America to read the words that expose the lie, rather than have them simply Google “Gay Manifesto” and get a litany of conservative pundit and blogger continuations of that lie would be on the one hand a terrible blow to the credibility of the need to portray the LGBTQ fight for civil rights as violent and a threat to Conservative Christianity as a tribal group and on the other hand make Archie in West Bumfuck, Mississippi put his debit card back into that sleeve the nice girl at the bank gave him. Below are the very first words of that 1987 satire by Michael Swift:

“This essay is an outré, madness, a tragic, cruel fantasy, an eruption of inner rage, on how the oppressed desperately dream of being the oppressor.”

To the Shoebats enjoy stealing from those too weak minded to be driven by anything other than fear in the wealthiest nation on Terra. Some smart guy said that Human Life is short and brutal well, that’s spot on isn’t it? When you both get here to Hell I’ll be the guy grinning wearing a white shirt a black tie and a gray fedora with my press pass in the band shouting, “I told you so!”

BEFORE TERRA CHANGED THE NEWS OF THE DAYS PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

Posted in FRED SCHWARTZ OPINIONS, HOW HELL WORKS, IN HINDSIGHT with tags , , , , , on 08/09/2013 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

fred_schwartz_4

I’ve been working on this post for the better part of five years and today I am finally ready to write what should have been very easy to do since we started this little Hell to Terra exchange eight years ago. There have been a lot of people her in Dis who have asked me what the news would have been like on September 11, 2001 had there been no terror attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. Hopefully from examining some of the news in the week that led up to the attacks I can piece that together for you.

We start out with the New York Times, as they have one of the most robust archive systems, on the morning of September 4, 2001. On that day Judith Miller writes about the US germ warfare program that may have been testing the international ban on the development of biological weapons. Here’s an excerpt:

Over the past several years, the United States has embarked on a program of secret research on biological weapons that, some officials say, tests the limits of the global treaty banning such weapons.

The 1972 treaty forbids nations from developing or acquiring weapons that spread disease, but it allows work on vaccines and other protective measures. Government officials said the secret research, which mimicked the major steps a state or terrorist would take to create a biological arsenal, was aimed at better understanding the threat.

The projects, which have not been previously disclosed, were begun under President Clinton and have been embraced by the Bush administration, which intends to expand them.

Earlier this year, administration officials said, the Pentagon drew up plans to engineer genetically a potentially more potent variant of the bacterium that causes anthrax, a deadly disease ideal for germ warfare.

The experiment has been devised to assess whether the vaccine now being given to millions of American soldiers is effective against such a superbug, which was first created by Russian scientists. A Bush administration official said the National Security Council is expected to give the final go-ahead later this month.

Two other projects completed during the Clinton administration focused on the mechanics of making germ weapons.

In a program code-named Clear Vision, the Central Intelligence Agency built and tested a model of a Soviet-designed germ bomb that agency officials feared was being sold on the international market. The C.I.A. device lacked a fuse and other parts that would make it a working bomb, intelligence officials said.

At about the same time, Pentagon experts assembled a germ factory in the Nevada desert from commercially available materials. Pentagon officials said the project demonstrated the ease with which a terrorist or rogue nation could build a plant that could produce pounds of the deadly germs.

Both the mock bomb and the factory were tested with simulants — benign substances with characteristics similar to the germs used in weapons, officials said.

A senior Bush administration official said all the projects were ”fully consistent” with the treaty banning biological weapons and were needed to protect Americans against a growing danger. ”This administration will pursue defenses against the full spectrum of biological threats,” the official said.

The treaty, another administration official said, allows the United States to conduct research on both microbes and germ munitions for ”protective or defensive purposes.”

Some Clinton administration officials worried, however, that the project violated the pact. And others expressed concern that the experiments, if disclosed, might be misunderstood as a clandestine effort to resume work on a class of weapons that President Nixon had relinquished in 1969.

Simultaneous experiments involving a model of a germ bomb, a factory to make biological agents and the developoment of more potent anthrax, these officials said, would draw vociferous protests from Washington if conducted by a country the United States viewed as suspect.

Administration officials said the need to keep such projects secret was a significant reason behind President Bush’s recent rejection of a draft agreement to strengthen the germ-weapons treaty, which has been signed by 143 nations.

I can’t remmeber the last time I heard anyone mention this gray area in the US policy regarding biological weapons. Of course, we all know that 13 days later the first anthrax letter was found in a Florida newsroom and these attacks led to five deaths. The blame for these attacks and the deaths were laid at the feet of one Bruce Edwards Ivins, a researcher in biodefense at the United States Army Medical Institute for Infectious Disease Research [USAMRIID]. To this day neither the Laal Hethri of anyone independent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been able to confirm Ivins’ role in these attacks or have they duplicated the nature of the anthrax and the medium in with it was contained.

From the LA Times letters to the editor there was this from Jay Stevens of Long Beach, CA on September 5, 2011:

Re “A Separation of Church and Hate,” Sept. 1: As I read this article about the Church of the National Knights in Osceola, Ind., and the damage this church is doing to its neighbors’ peace of mind and property values, I couldn’t help wondering if this faith-based organization would be eligible for federal tax dollars to provide social services under President Bush’s proposal.

I would be very much opposed to my tax dollar going to the Church of the National Knights, but if the federal government uses tax dollars to fund faith-based organizations and state and federal prohibitions against discrimination are waived for sectarian groups, what would prevent these hatemongers and followers of Hitler from receiving federal funds?

Jay Stevens

\o7 Long Beach

I just find that this was a curious reaction the the Bush Faith Based Initiatives idea.

On Spetember 7, 2001 Constance Hays writes this article on the state of the US retail sales market for the month of August 2001:

The federal tax rebates, which were supposed to stimulate demand for consumer goods, failed to transform America’s shoppers into bigger spenders in August, resulting in disappointing sales for many stores and renewing fears that the December holiday shopping season will be one of the most lackluster in years.

Sales over all rose 2.8 percent for the month, according to the Goldman, Sachs retail composite index issued yesterday, but sales at many department stores fell, as expected. Consumers appeared to head instead for discounters like Wal-Mart Stores and T. J. Maxx, a unit of TJX, if they were going to part with their cash. But even Wal-Mart executives, who had offered to cash the rebate checks for shoppers right in their stores, said on Wednesday that there had been no ”overly significant” impact on sales as a result.

”The tax rebates have been a nonevent,” said Shari Schwartzman Eberts, a retail analyst for J. P. Morgan. Even President Bush acknowledged last month that instead of rushing to the nearest mall to spend his own rebate, he had given it away to an unspecified charity.

Wal-Mart’s same-store sales grew 7 percent in August, according to Goldman, Sachs, while Target’s same-store sales increased 2.4 percent. Shares of Wal-Mart fell $1.78, to $47.37.

Kmart, the nation’s second-largest discounter after Wal-Mart, increased same-store sales 0.2 percent, according to the Goldman, Sachs index. Costco Wholesale’s same-store sales rose 4 percent.

Inside the no-frills discounters, customers appear to be cutting back their spending. ”America has become a nation of bargain-hunters, but not only that, they are buying less than they bought last year,” said Kurt Barnard, president of Barnard’s Retail Trend Report.

Continuing worry about the economy, and personal concern about job layoffs, have made many consumers skittish about spending money, Mr. Barnard and others said. Many companies are announcing second rounds of layoffs as the economy continues to falter, and shoppers tend to put off purchases if they do not think they will have the income to pay for them.

”Job layoffs and the news surrounding job layoffs have affected consumer confidence,” said Jeffrey Feiner, a retail analyst with Lehman Brothers. ”The discounters did better, reflecting the fact that people are trading down.”

The last part of this quote from the Hays article is what I find most interesting. Jeffrey Feiner was at Lehman Brothers and you know what happened to Lehman Brothers in mid September 2008. Don’t worry though Feiner is doing just find teaching at Columbia Business School and working for Brett Barrakett’s Tremblant Capital Group. maybe some of the early signs that the housing market was slipping and that the stimulus offer by the Bush administration wasn’t enough might have been bigger news had 9/11 not happened.

In more business news the US unemployment rate rose in August 2001 to 4.9% up sharply from 4.5% the previous month. In David Leonhardt’s article of September 9, 2001, Wall Streeters and economists build a gloomy sand castle that was washed away when America was attacked:

The nation’s unemployment rate jumped sharply in August to 4.9 percent from 4.5 percent in July, the biggest one-month rise since the spring of 1995, dashing hopes that the bleak economic climate was starting to improve.

The 4.9 percent jobless rate in August, according to the government’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, was the highest since mid-1997. Businesses eliminated more than 100,000 jobs last month, suggesting that the economy remained at risk of falling into a recession. And companies, in an effort to halt steep profit declines, made more cuts this summer in the hours their employees worked.

“The economy is facing bigger threats than we had thought,” said Jim Glassman, a senior economist at J. P. Morgan Chase. “It’s a very weak picture.”

The grim economic news prompted a hastily arranged appearance by President Bush on the White House grounds yesterday, where he sought to assure the public he was aware of the human toll the job losses were taking. [Page A9.]

“I want the American people to know we’re deeply concerned about the unemployment rates and we intend to do something about it,” said Mr. Bush, who has long been aware that the nation’s last recession at least in part caused his father to lose his 1992 bid for re-election.

Mr. Bush called for a “growth plan” to reverse the downturn, but offered no specifics beyond pushing policies that he has advocated before. He urged Congress to move on his proposals for increased energy production and to give him more leeway in negotiating international trade agreements.

The job figures prompted a broad sell-off on Wall Street, and the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index fell to its lowest level in almost three years. The dollar also dropped against the euro, and economists said that the Federal Reserve was now likely to keep cutting interest rates until signs of a rebound emerge. [Page C1.]

A month ago, the Labor Department had offered some reason for optimism, finding that manufacturers in July cut the fewest jobs in almost a year and reporting a rise in the number of people in the labor force — those with a job or actively seeking one. But the August numbers erased nearly all of the hopeful signs.

“Today’s unemployment numbers are obviously higher than expected,” Elaine L. Chao, the secretary of labor, said. “It’s disappointing and sobering.”

Manufacturing companies — hurt badly by the plunge in business investment and by the strong dollar, which makes it harder to compete against foreign goods — accounted for the entire August decline in jobs.

Since early last summer, factories have cut more than one million jobs, or 5.4 percent of their payrolls, and fewer people now work in a manufacturing plant than at any time since 1964. The South and the Midwest have been hardest hit by the manufacturing slump.

hindsight 2254
In Hindsight

This is just a tip of the iceberg from what will be a series of columns. They serve a purpose to inform what could have been “big news” had the really “big news” not happened. I’m not trying, as many have in the Terran and Hellac press have, to show that there were omens foretelling the planes flying into the towers. I’m just trying to show what the other stories were and where America’s head was before all Hell broke loose and the dinosaur realized its tail had been lopped off.

LAAL HETHRI DIRECTOR DEMANDS MORE INFORMATION ON THE ORIGINS OF THE CHEMICAL ATTACK IN SYRIA

Posted in BAX CULDNU, LAAL HETHRI, POLITICS, PRESIDENT OBAMA, SYRIA, SYRIAN CIVIL WAR with tags , , , on 08/09/2013 by Majordomo Pain

As_DaVinci_would_have_seen_Pain

General of the Skies Nuulo Isdrix has asked for a broadening of his office’s powers to investigate the origin and perpetrators of the chemical attacks in Syria this past August. In a statement at his press briefing this morning Isdrix, said, “While there is clarity from those who die in these attacks that there was a treaty banned chemical agent or agents used, this office cannot, at this time confirm the Assad government gave the orders and mounted them. With that in mind I am appealing to the Crown Fiery for a brief period of extraordinary powers to investigate this matter with agents on Terra for the purpose of clarifying the legal course of punishment for the Souls responsible.”

As on Terra there has been heated debate here in Hell’s capital, Dis, regarding President Barack Obama’s desire to strike militarily against Syria for their violation of the ban on the use of chemical weapons. Speaking in the Bax Culdnu this morning Lord Vellocque Basilisk Cantharidin detailed the irony of how this matter has been viewed differently from that of the run up to the war in Iraq in 2003, “I see nothing more than a partisan removal of the scales from the eyes of the opposition in this matter. Ten years ago, these very same personages were arguing on some very thin evidence that America was just in striking in Iraq. Today with similarly thin evidence they are willing and asking for more information, for weapons inspectors to return to Syria and for the people to protest this action in defense of international norms. While this shows a powerful and deeply partisan hypocrisy, I stand here in this august chamber to state clearly that I too see no need for America to involve itself in a folly of missiles that will do nothing positive in the region.”

BLINDED BY PARTISANSHIP TEA PARTY GROUPS OPPOSE NECESSARY ACTION IN SYRIA

Posted in SARAH BLOCH OPINIONS, SYRIA, SYRIAN CIVIL WAR, TEA PARTY with tags , , , , on 06/09/2013 by sarahbloch

blochadvocate_7

There is a certain political and patriotic foolishness that develops when a nation becomes a superpower. America, the country in which I was born, has seen this political and patriotic foolishness on many occasions. America thought it could go into Vietnam in the 1960s to stem the tide of communism in Southeast Asia. This was a brutal case of folly borne out of the idea that communism as practiced in China and the Soviet Union would destroy the American capitalist way of life, putting racial and cultural enemies on a collision course toward civil war. Once again in 2003, the fresh fear of apostate Islamic terrorism caused the United States to blunder into a war with Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti. This war was based on the lie that Hussein’s government possessed or were seeking to possess weapons of mass destruction which he could use on his own people or his regional neighbors.

Today we know that nearly 1,500 people were killed by a chemical weapon attack in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta. It is widely held that these attacks were coordinated and carried out by the Syrian military. From time to time a difficult decision comes around where international law must be upheld I feel that the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government is one of those cases.

The use of chemical weapons is a war crime; but despite calls from Progressives that I admire like Florida Representative Alan Grayson that America not “go to war” in Syria, international rule of law mandates that someone be brought to justice, by judicial or military means, for this crime against humanity. TEA Party groups from around the United States now are calling for President Barack Obama and the US Congress to do nothing to redress the actions of the Syrian government against its own people. While the United States must not become the world’s cop it also must not lose credibility as a force for the rule of law by sitting on its hands.

“How can the president be so sure of the situation in Syria, and so clueless about Benghazi? Too many questions, not nearly enough answers.”–Mark Kevin Lloyd, Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation

Those people you see in this link heckling Senator John McCain of Arizona are very likely the very same people who for more than a decade have trumpeted American patriotism and support for the troops while blindly following behind the misguided reasons for the American invasion of Iraq. Now the TEA Party finds itself in a position where they, for political reasons [not reasons of realpolitik], are in opposition to anything that President Obama suggests. Embedded in this opposition now is a direct animosity to anyone in their political party who proposes siding with the rule of law and allowing a limited engagement against Syria. My question to the TEA Party is where were all of you guys in the winter of 2002?

THIS JUST IN US STATE DEPARTMENT ORDERS NON ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL OUT OF LEBANON

Posted in SYRIA, SYRIAN CIVIL WAR with tags , , , on 06/09/2013 by Majordomo Pain

As_DaVinci_would_have_seen_Pain

The US Department of State has ordered all non essential personnel out of the Middle Eastern nation of Lebanon this morning. The order comes as a strike against Lebanon’s neighbor Syria finds itself in the cross-hairs of an imminent military strike by naval forces of the United States. Both houses of the US Congress are debating whether to grant President Obama leave to make the strike by approving his resolution on the use of chemical weapons by the Bashir al-Assad regime in Damascus.
