RICK SANTORUM EXPLAINS IT ALL: “WE WILL NEVER HAVE THE MEDIA ON OUR SIDE, EVER, IN THIS COUNTRY. WE WILL NEVER HAVE THE ELITE SMART PEOPLE ON OUR SIDE, BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THEY HAVE THEY SHOULD HAVE THE POWER TO TELL YOU WHAT TO DO.”

Rick Santorum speaking yesterday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., gave a curious insight into just who the powerbrokers on the Religious Right want their base to be. If taken directly in context, which is something the Right rarely does in regard to the sitting President of the United States, Mr. Santorum speaking to a largely white and boisterous crowd at the Omni Shoreham Hotel said this:

I don’t even know what kind of revolution we’re in right now. We seem to be creating dynamism in the marketplace like it’s never been seen. Why? Freedom. Freedom, not government dictates, not planners who are going to invest in solar energy companies and tell us what our future is going to be by some bureaucrat making those decisions. No. No, we’re going to trust you.

That’s why the media doesn’t go along with us. You have to understand that. They don’t like conservatism. They like the other side, not necessarily, I would argue, because they necessarily agree with them. It’s because they can influence the country more. You see, if just a few people make decisions about what this world looks like and what this country looks like, well, then you can have people sitting in offices in the major media outlets and in Hollywood who can – they can deal with a small group of people and influencing them, getting them to jump through the hoops they want to. It’s much harder if all of you collectively build America. It’s much harder to influence you.

We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country. We will never have the elite smart people on our side, because they believe they should have the power to tell you what to do. So our colleges and universities, they’re not going to be on our side. The conservative movement will always be – and that’s why we founded Patriot Voices – the basic premise of America and American values will always be sustained through two institutions, the church and the family. (Applause.)

And so economic conservatism – libertarian types can say, oh, well, we don’t want to talk about the social issues. Without the church and the family, there is no conservative movement. There is no basic values in America in force, and there is no future for our country. (Applause.)

So it is our job in this election, it is our job, to go out and make a difference. It is our job to go out and talk to fellow believers. And I don’t mean Christians. I mean fellow believers in the American creed, fellow believers in those basic principles that built our country.

Go out and preach to them the American ethic. Preach to them what made us great. And remind them that that greatness does not lie in Washington, D.C. or in the hands of a president. It lies in each and every one of us and in our families.

I’m excited, because I think we have a nominee who understands that. I read – I didn’t see it, but I read the transcript of what Governor Romney said here. I could have given that speech. I feel good. I feel good. (Laughter, applause.) We have to do our part.

So I encourage each and every one of you to leave here energized. It is our watch. At the end of the Declaration of Independence, we all know those words. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are – excuse me. We know these words, that we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortune and our sacred honor.”

What we have here from Mr. Santorum is telling on many levels. Clearly, there is an us against them sort of dynamic going on but these sorts of rifts are created by the Left as well just not to so much of an extreme. Marshall McLuhan famously said in 1946 that “the medium is the message” and that is as true today in American politics as it ever was. Santorum makes the point, however, that anti-intellectualism and satisfaction with being economically middling should be coupled with a drone-like adherence to religious and social beliefs. That makes no sense when you cosider that Mitt Romney is an Ivy League educated man worth more than $250 million whose family will have inherited wealth for many more generations into the future. So here the dynamic is clear as well. Santorum uses his Theocratic beliefs which are similarly held by middle class conservative white voters throughout the rural North, the South and the Midwest, to build a bridge in the air between the class animux that should exist between an elite intellectual businessman who has desires to be the highest elected official in America and the hoi polloi of the Right.

The only problem is that the Religious Right have seen this movie before. They saw this with the election of George W Bush in 2000. In that election the race became a watershed both for businesses and for individuals that was about what the future direction of America would be; a path toward neconservatism, a curious amalgamation of social values and military might a global cop, or neoprogressivism where the environment and social safety net issues would finally get the treatment in the public sphere they deserve by way of making hard choices now to assure a better future for for the generations of Americans to come.

America did not, I feel, fail itself by electing George W Bush. That lesson needed to be learned by Conservatives and Liberals alike. That path took America to trillions of dollars wasted in Iraq for a victory that was not won because of a lies told to heat the blood of the same Americans that Santorum spoke to at the Values Voter Summit. In this race Mitt Romney, a man who inspires no one is not seeking to inspire anyone. He, like George W Bush, is willing to offer lip service to the far Right and the Religious Right to get their votes on 6 November 2012. Romney is not a “true believer” like Catholic Rick Santorum is. Romney needs “true believer” surrogates like Santorum to get out there and energize the base.

The Conservatives now are being told, by one of their pious masters, that they are mediocre and stupid to paraphrase Mr. Santorum. I will admit here that the GOP is depending on those with negative attitudes toward President Barack Obama to constitute the majority of their voter base. The average TEA Party voter in 2012 can quote chapter and verse the lies about welfare to work requirements, their theories about corruption of the Supreme Court in the Affordable Care Act decision and most recently their refusal to believe that Muslim take their religion so seriously that a film trailer could inspire violence on a regional scale and thereby conflating the tragedy of four dead diplomtic service workers including Ambassador J Christopher Stevens into the failure of the Carter administration in 1979.

To the delusional voters on the Right this morning the sitting president is the “other.” This belief changing before 6 November 2012 is as unlikely as MSNBC becoming a digital parrot of the Koch Brothers’ goals for America. Yet Barack Obama is the sitting President of the United States. Getting there was the easy part; keeping Obama in office is what will be difficult. I, personally, still believe that the President will be re-elected. The violence in the Middle East will be a campaign footnote before the first debate is held on 3 October 2012 in Denver, Colorado; the teacher’s strike in Chicago will likely end next week.

By this time next week, the American electorate will be talking about the striking differences between the Right and the Left. Their choices are defined clearly by what has been said about women’s health on both sides. Their choices have defined by the Right wishing to exert controls on a society that no longer looks as it did in the post World War 2 era. Santorum and the “true believers” want to go back to those days when women could not choose to have or not to have a child, to have birth control options. The Religious Right want to go back to a time when the electorate was dominated by middle class white men who feared religion and who had wives who voted as they were told by their husbands and fathers. Conservatives who are being duped yet again by Mitt Romney want the gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people of America to go back in the closet at best or be rounded up by the Sheriff Joe Arpaio types doing the same work of Bull Conner in the 1960s. This election is about being a Human Being who has a choice in charting one’s own path in freedom, vice being a cog in a religion actuated corporate profit driven machine where your only choice is to pray to someone else’s deity that the law will not find fault in your personal decision and come for you.

THE SATURDAY RANT: RICK SANTORUM IS THE ONLY NIGGER I SEE

[Journ.]

“You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a nigger” (James Baldwin).

Okay, does the title of this post make this clear enough? I’ve had it up to my eyes with all the bigotry coming from the Right since Barack Obama announced his candidacy for president 5 years ago. Enough is enough; I get it bigots you hate the man not because he’s a liberal, which he isn’t really, but because his mother was white and his father was black. This isn’t about America this is about white Americans who have nothing but guns and religion to cling to as America gets browner by the day and the 1% gets richer and richer by the minute.

The millions of white folk that love Israel but cannot explain why, I’m sure it has something to do with one of the buffet selections they’ve taken from the Bible that suits their bigoted worldview, now have a champion in the form of Rick Santorum. The former Pennsylvania Senator now has made John McCain look far better to me as a public servant. At least McCain refused to use race against Obama and was terribly uncomfortable with the bigot vote crowd that rushed to the side of Sarah Palin who I thought would be the last “great white dope” offered by the GOP. Clearly, I was wrong in this age of conservative Catholicism that allows Newt Gingrich to pimp his new religion for profit and pussy to marry the woman he was having an adulterous affair with while the 46 to 80 set are the only ones attending mass. But the crimes against Humanity of that group are another topic for another time.

In Hindsight
In the video above I am sure Santorum’s “handlers” will say it was a slip of the tongue but the 37 million bigots in America have heard the dog whistle and they love it! I’m sure the white middle class Rush Limbaugh listeners have a new warm feeling in the pits of their stomachs to take away all the colld they had in their chests when thousands marched in support of Trayvon martin’s family. Santorum is not only unfit for the highest elected office in the United States, he’s no longer fit to be an American citizen. Where is his birth certificate? I say he should be deported back to Italy in the 13th century where his views will make him a great man indeed!

PRESIDENT SANTORUM’S CABINET

Posted in 2012 GOP PRIMARIES, 2012 US ELECTION, AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM, BLOGS 4 VICTORY, CONSERVATIVE FEAR, CONSERVATIVE IGNORANCE, COUNTER-THEOCRACY, FEARSPEAK, FRED SCHWARTZ OPINIONS, GLBTQ RIGHTS, GOP MELTDOWN, HERMAN CAIN, HOMOPHOBIA, IN HINDSIGHT, POLITICS, PRESIDENT OBAMA, RACE AND POLITICS IN AMERICA, TEA PARTY, THEOCRACY, THEY EXPLAIN IT ALL, WHITE PRIVILEGE with tags , , , , on 24/02/2012 by Fredrick Schwartz, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H. [Journ.]

The writers here get quite a few snarky comments from conservatives, especially the “my religion supersedes all Federal law” gang, about what a fantasy land this blog is. They believe in Hell but they can’t accept that those on the other side aren’t all suffering for the mean shit they did while alive. I hate to bust your bubbles but the Afterlife is quite a bit like the life you are living now. What is horrifying to religious conservatives is that here in hell you are responsible for your actions almost immediately. You really don’t even have to get caught; crime and punishment are nearly in a photo finish. And, of course, conservatives whose first commandment is “Do as I say not as I do,” see this as an infringement on the right to being first in line for everything good and never having to go to that other line.

Okay enough about why old, white, bible thumpers suck to high Hell. I’ve got a new thing for you. This morning after a nice bowl of fruit and some very good coffee I lit a cigarette [the tobacco here in Hell is really good quality and with no additives it doesn’t make you cough] and started surfing around the Internet to see what the Right was thinking this fine warm day. Well, maybe thinking was too strong a word? At Free Republic I stumbled across a thread where the poster “Dan.israel.2011” wanted to know what President Rick Santorum’s dream Cabinet would look like.

The first thing that came to my mind of what a Santorum Cabinet would look like was two midgets trying to fuck an elephant with diarrhea while all of rest of the Sarkozy, Cameron, Merkel, Medvedev and the cast of Glee stood laughing and pointing. Powerful image that. I shook that off because my mind was wandering to Jane Lynch in a thong and tassel pasties being served drinks by the Prime Minister of Great Britain, and I came back to the serious political matter at hand.

The suspension of disbelief that would allow someone to actually believe that Rick Santorum could win a general election for President in 2012 America is nearly infinite. If the entire conservative base turned out he’d get 25% of the vote. If half of the moderates collectively decided they liked the 13th Century better than the 21st he’d be up to 45%. Some Democratic scandal factor in the form of an October Surprise of a Lindsay Lohan found dead in the White House having anal sex with Vice President Biden [Sorry, Joe I had to form an image out of this morass somehow. Actually, for that I should be apologizing to Doctor Jill shouldn’t I?] would get him the final 6%. That’s not asking much is it? Not to Clinging Anti-Contraception Conservatives!

So here’s what Dan Israel 2011 came up with:

FReepers please post your President Rick Santorum Dream Team thoughts here.

VP – Allen West or Marco Rubio
Sec. Of Def Duncan Hunter Sr. not Jr.
WH Press Sec Sarah Palin you betcha!
Sec. Of State John Bolton ! Wow can you the left explode!
Fed Chair Herman Cain

Your thoughts?

Okay, I know I’m trying be serious about this. These are the same people who are saying Progressive like me, well at least the ones still alive on Terra, are trying to destroy the US of A. They start out with making sure that the so-called race card is off the table by having their token black or token Latino as the number 2 man in the team. For the thinkers in the room yes I know the Veep is technically a Cabinet level officer but for Right Wingers technical facts don’t matter they HAVE to point out they aren’t bigots by associating with one minority.

Then things really get pear shaped. Duncan Hunter Sr as SecDef, why you might ask? Well as one Freeper put it, “Duncan Hunter will build the border fence in 24hrs!” Did you hear the dog whistle? My question would be how is he going to get a border fence built from Washington to Maine in 24 hours? Oh this Freeper meant the border with Mexico, the smaller one! I get it now. But with Duncan Hunter Sr you get a two fer, a fascist warmonger and a HOMOPHOBE with one pick. That scores big points with the Christianist Working Class in the flyover states.

A few Duncan Hunter quotes:

Q: If you were president, would you need to go to Congress to get authorization to take military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities?
A: It depends on one thing: the president does not need that if the target is fleeting. We live in this age of terrorists with high technology, and if you have a very narrow window to hit a target, if the president’s going to have to take that on his shoulders, he’s going to have to do it. He has the right to do that under the Constitution as the commander in chief of the military forces. If he has time, then certainly you want to go to Congress, as we did in Iraq, and get the approval of Congress. So it’s a matter of whether or not the target is fleeting. And with respect to Iran, Iran is walking down the path to build a nuclear device. They’ve got now about a thousand centrifuges; they claim they’ve got 3,000. At some point, we may have to pre-empt that target. If we do, it should be done hopefully with allies but perhaps by the U.S. alone.

Source: 2007 Republican debate in Dearborn, Michigan Oct 9, 2007

Q: If it came down to a preemptive US strike against Iran’s nuclear facility, if necessary would you authorize the use of tactical nuclear weapons?

A: I would authorize the use of tactical nuclear weapons if there was no other way to preempt those particular centrifuges.

Then you get the obvious; Sarah Palin as White House Press Secretary. He might as well have written Victoria Jackson. All that would have to happen to start the dominoes falling is to have MSNBC send Dylan Ratigan to the White House as their correspondent and supply him with enough adult undergarments for three press briefings. His facial expressions at Palin’s inability to speak intelligently to matters going on around the world [as I might add Jay Carney does with aplomb] would be worthy of LIFE Magazine covers. I can hear Dylan now, struggling to stifle his laughter and maintain a measure of decorum, “Ms. Palin you are aware that Syrian does not share a border with the United States?” But I get the Sarah Palin thing. Middle aged conservative men are married to middle aged conservative women who have had a few babies like to see as much of Palin as possible for reasons I don’t have to go into.

In Hindsight

It’s curious that this Freeper thread devolves into a circular firing squad with arguments about who is the most viable candidate. That’s likely because conservatives don’t know who really effective, even in a Santorum Cabinet, members in their party and within government could fill these positions. Bolton and Cain top off this list but by now most serious people have expired from laughter. This isn’t a serious cabinet list, it’s a list of the people who conservatives know would make Progressives wince the most. All naming these people to these posts would do is to cause what the Right swears the Left is trying to do –destroy America. James Carville looks more and more like a genius every day.

RICK SANTORUM IS MORE THAN WILLING TO MAKE THE LIVES OF WHITE PEOPLE BETTER WITH WELFARE

Posted in 2012 US ELECTION, AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM, CONSERVATIVE IGNORANCE, DIANE VALENCEN OPINIONS, GOP MELTDOWN, POLITICS, RACE AND POLITICS IN AMERICA, THEOCRACY, WHITE PRIVILEGE with tags , on 02/01/2012 by Diane Valencen, D.S.V.J., O.Q.H [Journ.], ArF J., M.F.

The gaffe train is leaving Santorum station right now. In a speech before a group in Iowa GOP Presidential flavor of the week Rick Santorum said, ”I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them other people’s money.” Now the main question that I have seen being asked on the political blogs this evening is why Santorum would single out blacks for this comment in Iowa. I have the answer to that easy question. It’s because his base of white conservative religious people need to hear that because their nation is no longer the nation of their grandparents.

The more important issue here is the dog whistle signal being sent by a man who could care less about Iowa or New Hampshire. This comment was for South Carolina to make himself, a Catholic, more palatable to Southern white voters. for the record Mr Santorum there are more white people collecting Welfare benefits in the United States than blacks by a large margin, almost 2 to 1.
