THE CONSERVATIVE TAKE ON THE CULTURE WAR: “YEAH, YOU WON, PROGRESSIVES, BUT YOU CHEATED!”

blochadvocate_7

I am currently reading John Nolte’s article on 11 reasons the Left has not won the Culture War at Breitbart.com. Simply reading this is making my day because I love to laugh in the morning. Millions of conservatives have likely read this today and more than a thousand have commented. Those comments will be covered by Fred Schwartz later in the day.

Nolte begins with same sex marriage which I see as a full faith and credit legal issue not a moral and religious one. I don’t think, however, that any shop owner has a right to refuse service to a gay couple anymore than they have the right to refuse service to a person based on their race, religion, gender or disability. The author feels that the “voice of the people” has been tossed out in favor of the rulings of “activist judges.” In a bizarre twist John Nolte points to a rise in “Christian entertainment” as proof that Americans really do not want people they do not know of the same sex to get married. The singular example is the film “Heaven is for Real” which has grossed nothing yet because the film is to be released today. Nolte’s point is that Sony TriStar Pictures has decided to release the film on a Wednesday in 2,417 theaters. This film and others like it are one point Nolte shows as proof that on the topic of same sex marriage the Right is winning. I will make a claim here: Heaven is for Real will not make more money between its premiere and the end of the box office weekend than “Transcendence” will make from its opening until Sunday night on a theater by theater basis.

The next Culture War issue is the legalization of marijuana. Both Washington state and Colorado have legalized the weed most notorious to conservatives and more states are moving to decriminalize small amounts. Most recently the state of Maryland did just that becoming the first state south of the Dixon-Line to decriminalize pot. Fourteen other states and the District of Columbia have also done so. Nolte does not address any of the medical reasons for pot use or even recreational ones as a justification for a victory here in the Culture war. Instead he states that abortion rights activists are on their heels quoting an article on Breitbart.com no less about a poll conducted by the Knights of Columbus regarding abortion rights. The Gallup Polling Service numbers show that those who view themselves as pro-Life vice those that are pro-Choice are nearly equal at 48% to 45%. The numbers of those seeing abortion as federally defined from the same poll vice those who do not believe abortion should be legal at all is 52% vice 20% as of May 2013. Nolte loses this battle as well.

Nolte sticks with entertainment decrying the amount of sex on television but reveling in what he calls the return of the masculine male on the National Geographic Channel. These shows according to the author “celebrate the working class and their traditional values.” What he really means is they celebrate being white, Christian and living in the woods or where it’s very cold. The next “reason” the Right is winning the Culture War is the ascendancy of Jimmy Fallon to the Tonight Show as a counter to Stephen Colbert stepping into David Letterman’s slot after his retirement next year. There is no rhyme or reason to this at all.

The next nugget reveals something about conservatives. They like strong male characters. Nolte point to Don Draper [Mad Men] Walter White [Breaking Bad] and Tony Soprano [The Sopranos] as examples of these. They are called “flawed” and “anti-heroes” and I imagine that takes the guilt away for all the nudity, sex, drugs and violence which conservative say they are against on TV.

More entertainment, really? Miley Cyrus is popular but unions are dying says Nolte. I fear conservatives may never come out of this irrational abyss. As if the weakness of unions in America is a good thing for those working class people they say they love?

Conservative media is on the upswing says Nolte. Well get back to me in 20 years when most Fox News viewers are either dead or senile or have slaughtered their family. There is a trend in there demographically if you just take the time to look.

Women are getting birth control but conservatives have their guns! This is awful. War on women much? The fear of the Other is oozing here.

Nolte sees more money in politics as a solution to what ails the Right politically. No John, the key would be to make your tent bigger. Oh, that’s right you can’t do that because you’d have to let in all those brown people, women and gay people on a level playing field.

Yes, Occupy is dead but given time the TEA Party will wither as well. I think the date on that tombstone will be somewhere around 1 February 2017.

What John Nolte needs is a time machine so he can return to that conservative era of his father the 1950s. Back then by conservative standards women were in their place (not barefoot and pregnant but seen and not heard), minorities were second class citizens and it was a crime to be gay. It must be awful for John Nolte to have to watch as all that unearned privilege is redistributed in the form of earned civil rights.

  1. Bagdad Bob comes to mind
Not only are conservatives losing an increasing amount of arguments and issues, they refuse to admit or accept it. 3 examples of the hysteria they engaged in which resulted in them looking like utter fools: AHC, the IRS “scandle” amd Bengazi. This has gone from pitiful to pathetic. Next up is sad. They really must believe that they can stop time

All three of those “issues” are settled and as you say they are still trying to breathe life into them as “scandals.” The next one that irks me most is “Christian persecution” in America. I have asked many conservatives on the Internet when was the last time they could recall a church being bombed. They would quickly point out other acts of random vandalism but none of them ever mention Birmingham.

      • Yes many of the people in Birmingham in the 1960s were Democrats. This is known because the Democratic Party was the party of slavery and secession. Now We, Ourselves, of The Collective understand that party alignments shift throughout history. You know this you simply choose to sin by ignoring the facts.

    • No you are mistaken. That is the reaper coming for the conservative base.

    • sarahbloch Says:

Stupid for the simple reason that had there been no 9/11 you would harbor no resentment against Muslims. You are simply angry that your life was not what you expected and now its too late.

    • sarahbloch Says:

Then how are you persecuted and why do you rage against those who simply want the same constitutional rights as you?

    • sarahbloch Says:

Why is marriage equality rat poison?

    • What you seek are special rights for those who live by your set of values and limited rights for those who do not.

Walter White was a Ph.D. chemist. Almost certainly he’d vote Dem.

    • Racistly clueless (and classless) as always. My mother was a Jew. Her mother was a Jew. Her mother…

      And I hold the Ph.D.

Not an Islam lover but I am a leftist.

And I don’t know Sarah’s religious beliefs but her last name could certainly lead one to guess that she might trace her roots back to the Ashkenazi.

      • sarahbloch Says:

Ser Daryl you are correct on my father’s side of the family. My mother is Irish.

    • Did not a great man implore his followers to love those who hate them? Is your bigotry so great you would turn your back on His teachings as a prophet?

  3. I saw a poster of Walter, standing in the desert in his underwear. The caption said “If teachers earned more, they wouldn’t have to supplement their income.”

    • EW Jackson is not the sort of person who can relate to moderates. All the Right has is a few traitors to their better interests who will smile for crumbs from the table of conservative power.

  4. What is your fucking problem? Do you think you are being cute? Funny? In a way it’s a good thing that you are allowed to post here. It shows what a miserable, bigoted fool you are. Still trying to convince others that Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim. That meme died yrs ago and the only people who still insist it’s “real” are the fringe of the fringe. Delusional and completely oblivious to the world around them and the shrinking number of people who are paying attention to the pathetic bullshit they spew. Good luck!

Time Mitch. Time will take care of the Neocon1s of America and their replacement rate is very slim.

    • Robin Naismith Green Says:

No bigotry there at all . . .

    • Robin Naismith Green Says:

I can guarantee you Neocon1 you’ll be in the same place as everyone else.

    • sarahbloch Says:

Neocon1 this is the problem. You and your kind think that you are somehow special or chosen when you are not. This is a self applied label. It has no power and no meaning. You have simply elevated yourself above everyone you think is inferior. Parties aside the people in the South and many in the North as well participated in institutionalized racism for centuries and stood by while atrocities are committed. Now in the 21st century you will be allowed to watch and the constructs that allowed this to happen finally be destroyed. Being what you are religiously holds little or no power in modern terms compared to what it did when you were born. The only outlet you have now is on a blog which is allowed by Progressives and denied you by conservatives. This should tell you that you are doing this thing called life all wrong.

    • sarahbloch Says:

That is for you tom worry about, dying that is– not me. Watching those I loved die around me and dying myself once is enough. You have the worst years of your life ahead of you or the best it is your choice.

    • sarahbloch Says:

I know you worry about this constantly Neocon1 but is a known known that we will all come to our own personal Waterloo. I just hope you go peacefully and painlessly into the Afterlife.

    • sarahbloch Says:

And yet Neocon1 you cannot tell me how the GOP will bring minorities and women into your party in your lifetime, well what’s left of it. Can you say that in 20 years there will be a browner more female GOP? I doubt it.

    • We, Ourselves, as a judge of Souls recognize these words as true. Your religion however has been corrupted to the point that you can no longer see the message if Love it us steeped in by its originator.

    • This us simply because you would prefer the party of you beliefs to be only for people who look think act and worship as you do in public.

    • sarahbloch Says:

I’m glad you have comfort in your belief . . .

    • We, Ourselves, are what We are and nothing more or less.

  5. Christ holds the power…

There is no christ, no god. It’s all just a fantasy created by a bunch of goat herders 3000 years ago. Grow up already!
