THE GOP MUST FIND A WAY TO SHUT UP SARAH PALIN ET AL BEFORE JANUARY 2016 OR THE PARTY WILL CEASE TO EXIST

I’m unfortunately not for hire to the GOP to do their dirty work, but if the folks who work for Reince Priebus at the RNC have any sense they will spend some of their millions on finding the nugget of embarrassment on Sarah Palin or anyone else who wants to take 35% of the GOP with it to the Christian Freedom Party or the TEA Party or whatever homespun, folksy moniker they decide to call the plague they will inject into the major political representative party on the Right. Political parties don’t fall from favor in an instant. It is a slow process and can be precipitated in any number of ways.

What is happening to the GOP is a curious combination of demographic shrinkage and negative messaging. This is detailed by Ana Marie Cox in her most recent article for the UK Guardian. The poll taken by Rupe-Reason of 2,000 millennials shows a significant shift toward Progressive political tendencies that in a potential voting bloc of 80 million could sink the conservatives albeit slowly. I’ve written before about Texas turning blue by 2024 and this is because of the singular thing that millennials can agree on–they hate drama.

The eyeopener from the report:

The Reason-Rupe report finds this skepticism of government has millennials favoring general reductions to government spending and regulations:

73 percent of millennials favor allowing private accounts for Social Security; 51 percent favor private accounts even it means cutting Social Security benefits for current and future retirees because 53 percent of millennials say Social Security is unlikely to exist when they retire
64 percent of millennials say cutting government spending by 5 percent would help the economy
59 percent say cutting taxes would help the economy
57 percent prefer a smaller government providing fewer services with low taxes, while 41 percent prefer a larger government providing more services with high taxes
57 percent want a society where wealth is distributed according to achievement
55 percent say reducing regulations would help the economy
53 percent say reducing the size of government would help the economy
74 percent of millennials say government has a responsibility to guarantee every citizen has a place to sleep and enough to eat
However, millennials also support more government action and higher spending in a number of key areas:

71 percent favor raising the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour
69 percent say it is government’s responsibility to guarantee everyone access to health care and 51 percent have a favorable view of the Affordable Care Act
68 percent say government should ensure everyone makes a living wage
66 percent say raising taxes on the wealthy would help the economy
63 percent say spending more on job training would help the economy
58 percent say the government should spend more on assistance to the poor even it means higher taxes
57 percent favor spending more money on infrastructure
54 percent favor a larger government that provides more services, when taxes are not mentioned
54 percent want government to guarantee everyone a college education

And the message that should be clear to the GOP in the shadow of the 2014 midterm elections and two years before the 2016 presidential:

Of those registered to vote, 76 percent of millennials say they plan to vote in the 2014 midterm elections. Fifty-three percent of registered millennials tell Reason-Rupe they plan to vote for the Democratic congressional candidate in their district this November, while 29 percent intend to vote for the Republican. For Democrats that’s a sharp decline from the 64 percent of millennials who say they voted for President Barack Obama in 2012.

Things look better for Democrats in 2016, however. When asked to select their top choice for president in 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the top choice of 39 percent of registered millennial voters, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (8 percent), Vice President Joe Biden (6 percent) and the top Republican, Rep. Paul Ryan (6 percent). Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen. Rand Paul were each the top choice of 5 percent of registered millennial voters.

A majority of millennials, 52 percent, identify themselves as independents when first asked. Just 16 percent self-identify as Republicans, while 32 percent say they’re Democrats. Including those leaning towards a party, 43 percent of millennials identify as Democrats, 35 percent as independents, and only 23 percent classify themselves as Republicans.

Millennials don’t identify with the political parties and don’t have much confidence in them. When asked who they trust most to handle a series of policy issues, young Americans say they trust “neither” party to handle 12 of 15 issues surveyed. Millennials do trust Democrats the most on gay marriage, the environment, and poverty, while only trusting Republicans the most on promoting entrepreneurship.

That last paragraph should make the leadership of the Establishment GOP run screaming from their country clubs and to the nearest television studio to denounce Palin and Akin every chance they get.

In Hindsight
The GOP would be well served to do all it can to counter the attacks coming from their right flank and try to come to the center. There’s very little they can do to fight the demographic shift as the base of the GOP is dying by the day. As Cox points out in her article the best thing for the GOP to do is try to find a way to mute the faux outrage pouring forth from the mouths of people like Sarah Palin and pray, yes pray, they can find a moderate centrist candidate before the eulogy for the Grand Old Party is written.

THE CONSERVATIVE MIND: JERAD MILLER, AMANDA MILLER AND THE NATURE OF THE ANGRY WHITE CONSERVATIVE

I’d be willing to bet every sturnii that I have that your run of the mill, non fact checking, “No true Scotsman,” white, conservative over the age of 50 would grow beet red in the face if you asked them what they think of Jerad Miller and Amanda Miller this morning. Curiously, noted conservative forums have grown very silent about the gun violence murder of two Las Vegas Police officers on Sunday.To cover this case, as a journalist meant that I had to wait for as many details about the couple to be confirmed before writing anything about their murderous ammosexual anti-government rampage. Mercifully, only three people died at their cowardly hands the ultimate tragedy for the families of the victims. What I do get from the events that unfolded midday in Las Vegas, Nevada is that this young white couple opened a door into the minds of the “victimized” white conservative and what these people think. Their burning hatred for government rules and regulations, that for the first time in American history rip open the protective veneer of their unearned privilege and expose them to the carnivorous sink or swim ethics of capitalism, are naked and on public display for all of Terra to see. And of course, Jim Hoft got it wrong, horribly wrong.

The truth of the matter is my job is very easy this morning; all I have to do is report what is known and verified. Unlike conservative bloggers and forum posters to write this story I don;t have to make wild assumptions or create lies out of whole cloth. Jerad Miller and Amanda Miller are anti-government “patriots” who said things that the majority of blog commenters at Breitbart would agree with. This couple did things that many of the commenters at Mark Edward Noonan’s BlogsforVictory have said they wanted to do for quite some time. It shatters the notions that conservatives are anti-government citizens who will have to be pushed to violence. Destroyed is the conservative ideal, tragically, that a concealed carry permit will save your life and make you a hero in such a scenario. In the end old world thinking, a male dominated notion of how society operates, got the man in the Wal-Mart killed. A brief scanning of Men in Black [See the clip posted above for clarification] might have saved that guy’s life and made him get the heck out of the store or better start with Amanda Miller and then turn his all powerful weapon Jerad. Having a gun means nothing if you aren’t going to clear your head of the bullshit that this group is harmless and that gender isn’t capable of “x”. But enough of that this guy will have Eternity to ponder the “what the fucks” of what happened to him in a flash of gunpowder. And so nobody goes there, this isn’t a false flag operation brought to you by the Obama Administration, but it might be the start of death panels. And no this isn’t the time to change the subject to what some black person in Chicago did this past weekend with a gun, because guns are still the problem.

Here’s a snippet from Jerad’s TEA Party inspired manifesto:

We can hope for peace. We must, however, prepare for war. We face an enemy that is not only well funded, but who believe they fight for freedom and justice. Those of us who know the truth and dare speak it, know that the enemy we face are indeed our brothers. Even though they share the same masters as we all do. They fail to recognize the chains that bind them. To stop this oppression, I fear, can only be accomplished with bloodshed. May the best men of our beloved nation stand and fight tyranny, without fear and without regret. May we stand proud as free men instead of kneeling as slaves. May we offer our children a free and just world with our blood, sweat and tears as payment. Let our wives and lovers take vengeance upon our enemies in our absence. We cannot fail in this endeavor of Liberty, if we do we risk leaving our orphaned children to the will of tyrants. We, cannot with good conscience leave this fight to our children, because the longer we wait, our enemies become better equipped and recruit more mercenaries of death, willing to do a tyrants bidding without question. I know you are fearful, as am I. We certainly stand before a great and powerful enemy. I, however would rather die fighting for freedom, than live on my knees as a slave. Let it be known to our children’s children that free men stood fast before a tyrants wrath and were found victorious because we stood together. That we all cast aside our petty differences and united under the banner of Liberty and Truth. May future generations look back upon this time in history with awe and gratitude, for our courage to face tyranny, so that they could live happy and free.

In Hindsight
Conservative America you now own what lives in the Souls of more than half of those who claim your ideology. Personally, I’d rather be associated with the disabled, single mothers on Food Stamps, elderly citizens trying to maintain their dignity, Latinos, Blacks, Gays, Lesbians, Tansgender people and anyone else who wants to live in a diverse and inclusive society than people who think their religion and their guns are going to save them both on Terra and in the Afterlife. Conservatives, butt hurt by how obviously one of them this couple was, will deny any of the glaring and consistent connections to their causes the Millers had. Their wanting to live by the Constitution, their joining the “fight” in Bunkerville, NV to support Cliven Bundy, their joyous praise of themselves being willing to die for future generations. Yeah, check, check and check. This sounds like Neocon and Retired Spook and Jeremiah all rolled up into two pasty skinned bigoted and angry pair of failures who preferred to die than to live. Are these the death throes of conservatism in America? Probably not. But what I do think this is is a trend toward people who have nothing who need to find someone anyone to blame for their failure. It’s not the imagined thought police of the US DOJ that will do the most harm to anti-government conservatives it is the fact that these people cannot rationally think for themselves.

THE SUICIDE FROM FEAR OF DEATH REPORT: TEA PARTY DESPERATE TO KILL OF ANY CHANCE OF WINNING THE WHITE HOUSE IN 2016

Jeb Bush, the former Governor of Florida is likely the only candidate that could win in 2016 for the GOP no matter who is running against him. Bush has embraced a need for amnesty for undocumented immigrants as well as the Common Core educational model. Both of these issues are hot button topics for the conservative base which has migrated toward a rigid more orthodox form of political ideology since the election of 2008.

Breitbart.com’s Tony Lee today writes a piece about Bush and his ties to a company, Tenet HealthCare. Tenet was an early and vocal supporter of ObamaCare and Lee quotes a New York Times article written by Michael Barbaro, which paints a picture of the difficulty that Bush would have with the base if he were to run for the nomination:

“And in a stint that could complicate his appeal to conservatives, Mr. Bush serves as a paid director to Tenet Health Care, the giant hospital owner, which supported President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, aggressively encouraged Americans to sign up for insurance under the program and trumpeted the legislation as a boon to the company’s finances.”

It is doctrine among the conservative base that anything Obama promotes must be fought against tooth and nail. Any Obama policy accepted by a member of the Establishment GOP must be viewed as treason to the conservative cause. This level of de facto ideological purity is what caused hundreds of thousands of conservative voters to turn their backs on both John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012. This will set up a very vocal and heated showdown during the primaries in 2016 with moderates among the establishment doing all they can to convince donors that their guy can win despite alienating the base. Equally, the TEA Party and its Koch powered advertising machine will do all it can to carpet bomb the establishment opposition painting them as “RINOs”.

In Hindsight

The fallout of this is, in my opinion a perfect storm for the final showdown between the TEA Party and the Establishment GOP. The 2016 GOP Convention might finally prove my prediction in 2008 and 2012 true; that the party will self destruct on live television. I’d like to go on record and implore the major networks to cover every minute of both nominating conventions which should be historical to say the least. The Democrats will elevate Hillary Clinton as their candidate making her the first female at the top of a major party ticket. The GOP will find itself struggling to keep its house in order. History has an odd way of repeating itself; from the ashes of the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago came the victory for Nixon that he so craved and a long time in the wilderness for the Democratic Party as it relates to the Executive Branch. Out of the 2016 GOP Convention their could be the final nail driven in the coffin of a party that can claim Reagan and Lincoln both of whom would not recognize what their Grand Old Party has become in the 21st Century.

THE CONSERVATIVE TAKE ON THE CULTURE WAR: “YEAH, YOU WON, PROGRESSIVES, BUT YOU CHEATED!”

I am currently reading John Nolte’s article on 11 reasons the Left has not won the Culture War at Breitbart.com. Simply reading this is making my day because I love to laugh in the morning. Millions of conservatives have likely read this today and more than a thousand have commented. Those comments will be covered by Fred Schwartz later in the day.

Nolte begins with same sex marriage which I see as a full faith and credit legal issue not a moral and religious one. I don’t think, however, that any shop owner has a right to refuse service to a gay couple anymore than they have the right to refuse service to a person based on their race, religion, gender or disability. The author feels that the “voice of the people” has been tossed out in favor of the rulings of “activist judges.” In a bizarre twist John Nolte points to a rise in “Christian entertainment” as proof that Americans really do not want people they do not know of the same sex to get married. The singular example is the film “Heaven is for Real” which has grossed nothing yet because the film is to be released today. Nolte’s point is that Sony TriStar Pictures has decided to release the film on a Wednesday in 2,417 theaters. This film and others like it are one point Nolte shows as proof that on the topic of same sex marriage the Right is winning. I will make a claim here: Heaven is for Real will not make more money between its premiere and the end of the box office weekend than “Transcendence” will make from its opening until Sunday night on a theater by theater basis.

The next Culture War issue is the legalization of marijuana. Both Washington state and Colorado have legalized the weed most notorious to conservatives and more states are moving to decriminalize small amounts. Most recently the state of Maryland did just that becoming the first state south of the Dixon-Line to decriminalize pot. Fourteen other states and the District of Columbia have also done so. Nolte does not address any of the medical reasons for pot use or even recreational ones as a justification for a victory here in the Culture war. Instead he states that abortion rights activists are on their heels quoting an article on Breitbart.com no less about a poll conducted by the Knights of Columbus regarding abortion rights. The Gallup Polling Service numbers show that those who view themselves as pro-Life vice those that are pro-Choice are nearly equal at 48% to 45%. The numbers of those seeing abortion as federally defined from the same poll vice those who do not believe abortion should be legal at all is 52% vice 20% as of May 2013. Nolte loses this battle as well.

Nolte sticks with entertainment decrying the amount of sex on television but reveling in what he calls the return of the masculine male on the National Geographic Channel. These shows according to the author “celebrate the working class and their traditional values.” What he really means is they celebrate being white, Christian and living in the woods or where it’s very cold. The next “reason” the Right is winning the Culture War is the ascendancy of Jimmy Fallon to the Tonight Show as a counter to Stephen Colbert stepping into David Letterman’s slot after his retirement next year. There is no rhyme or reason to this at all.

The next nugget reveals something about conservatives. They like strong male characters. Nolte point to Don Draper [Mad Men] Walter White [Breaking Bad] and Tony Soprano [The Sopranos] as examples of these. They are called “flawed” and “anti-heroes” and I imagine that takes the guilt away for all the nudity, sex, drugs and violence which conservative say they are against on TV.

More entertainment, really? Miley Cyrus is popular but unions are dying says Nolte. I fear conservatives may never come out of this irrational abyss. As if the weakness of unions in America is a good thing for those working class people they say they love?

Conservative media is on the upswing says Nolte. Well get back to me in 20 years when most Fox News viewers are either dead or senile or have slaughtered their family. There is a trend in there demographically if you just take the time to look.

Women are getting birth control but conservatives have their guns! This is awful. War on women much? The fear of the Other is oozing here.

Nolte sees more money in politics as a solution to what ails the Right politically. No John, the key would be to make your tent bigger. Oh, that’s right you can’t do that because you’d have to let in all those brown people, women and gay people on a level playing field.

Yes, Occupy is dead but given time the TEA Party will wither as well. I think the date on that tombstone will be somewhere around 1 February 2017.

What John Nolte needs is a time machine so he can return to that conservative era of his father the 1950s. Back then by conservative standards women were in their place (not barefoot and pregnant but seen and not heard), minorities were second class citizens and it was a crime to be gay. It must be awful for John Nolte to have to watch as all that unearned privilege is redistributed in the form of earned civil rights.

DAWN PATROL: DOW DOWN NEARLY 200, WORLD’S OLDEST FLAMINGO DIES, JAMESTOWN ASSOCIATES IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CLUB FOR GROWTH

On fears of falling values in emerging market currencies coupled with the end of quantitative easing by the American Federal Reserve, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 186 points to 15,662. Carlton Pryor, Lead Economist at TED-OG feels the drop in the Dow is “a necessary correction that will allow for some profit taking prior to the hiring wave of Q3 2014.”

Greater, Terra’s oldest flamingo has been put down in Australia at the age of 83 at the Adelaide Zoo. The large bird had suffered an attack by youths in 2008 and recovered but now was blind and zoo workers feared it had no quality of life.

Jamestown Associates, a conservative political consulting firm, which targeted Kentucky Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on behalf of TEA Party candidates, that was banned by both the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee, has struck a deal to work on behalf of the Club for Growth. The move assures a deepening rift between Establishment members of the GOP and their reactionary TEA Party faction.

HOW PROGRESSIVES CAME TO ELECTORAL POWER IN AMERICA

Amazona there is a difference between taking a short cut to the Moral High Ground and actually looking out from the Moral High Ground. I’ll give you this point you are absolutely right that it is as simple as voting for Progressive or Liberal candidates to get your moral superiority biscuit. As a group Progressives do stand for good things. Being against poverty, torture, corruption, misogyny, bigotry, abuse aren’t simply things that Progressives are against though. Conservatives are also against many of these societal scourges.

This is where things get confusing and clearly why conservatives are tripped up and find themselves unpopular both electorally and in general. Progressives don’t require a purity test, a loyalty test, or a religious affiliation to walk into our tent. Conservatives with their messages about tax rates being too high should, on that issue alone, have had a way in to the minds of the moderates and independents out there but for some reason they have a social agenda that is more important to them than the economic agenda.

Issues like same sex marriage, abortion and immigration are where conservatives fail simply because their tent is not as inclusive. I’m not going to be so closed minded as to say that this is because of some grand bigoted conspiracy but it is what it is. Conservatives offer little to blacks, Latinos, members of the LGBTQ community, single mothers or the non religious. The coalition that has been built by conservatives since the fall of Nixon of working class whites in the rural West and South and a few upper middle class and wealthy whites who have an agenda driven by heredity and inheritance. This coalition had a majority during the Reagan era and had the Moral High Ground in the dying age of the Cold War. This coalition drove America forward to a conservative vision that likely thought that with political power would come the power to change society; to pull it back from the brink. At this point in Reagan’s second term no one would have imagined that 18 states and the District of Columbia would recognize the marriage rights of same sex couples.

And yet, thirty years later, here you are in an America that seems nearly alien to you. Looking up at people like me who are standing on top of the mountain of Morality. What happened? Is the question most of you are asking and that is the smartest question you can ask and it has an easy answer. Three decades ago, the Greatest Generation were the electoral force in America. They were more conservative than even you Amazona having never dabbled in the experimentation of the 1960s and 1970s with Liberalism as you have said you did. These men and women who were adults in the 1940s and 1950s were around your age now in the 1980s and Reagan was an ultimate relief to them. Hey were afraid the Greatest were that all of their hard work to secure freedom and liberty for the coming generations of THEIR CHILDREN was going to wasted by the creeping Socialism, Diversity and Depravity that they saw in Liberalism.

The answer is obvious what happened. Those from the Greatest Generation had children, the Baby Boomers, and those Boomers had children in the 1970s. Those Generation X children had children Generation Y, or the Millenials. Being born now to the Generation Y women are the Digital Natives of the information age or Gen Z kids. The easy answer to the question of what happened to fear of authoritarian religious, political or corporate power is the last generation that never questioned them has nearly died entirely and has been replaced with an ever more questioning set of grandchildren.

Those grandchildren continued the trend of questioning all authority that began in the 1960s into the new Millennium. I’ll be the first to admit that the War on Poverty was a failure because it simply threw money at a problem that could not be solved so simply. However, in that time the Greatest Generation still held sway on all matters social and the ground was not yet fertile for the sort of change that one sees today.

In Hindsight
On my side of the great political divide Progressives worry about the pendulum swinging back toward conservatism on a daily basis. Maybe the generation that will be born to young girls that are infants now in America in the 2030s and 2040s will hearken back to the nostalgic days of the 1940s and 1950s. Who knows? By the time they go to the polls for the first time they will live in an America so saturated in information both for the good and the bad that the messages that resonated with 21 year olds in 1945 will seem as archaic as silent movies do today.

REPUBLICAN INFIGHTING IN BROWARD COUNTY FLORIDA MAY BE JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Broward County, Florida is important to the establishment GOP because if it can thrive there, in a county which has seen a dizzying rise of Latinos and blacks migrate to the county in the last decade, it can deliver both its message and members to Congress from nearly anywhere else in the United States. The Broward Republican Executive Committee has been plagued over the past half decade with its share of battles with TEA Party elements led by Fort lauderdale TEA Party activist Danita Kilcullen. The actions of Kilcullen since 2009 are a single component of why Progressives have very little to fear from the TEA Party but why the establishment GOP needs to jettison these people from their ranks. The only way for the GOP to remain a viable national party is to separate from the TEA Party, take their lumps in local and state elections for a few years and come back nationally in the hopes of reversing the success of Progressive policies during a two term Hillary Clinton administration.

I know that sounds like a heavy lift, but as time goes on I am beginning to side with my colleague Fred Schwartz who feels that if the TEA Party is allowed to remain a cancer in the belly of the GOP it eventually will kill the party leaving a new massive and powerful Democratic Party to rule unchecked possibly for the remainder of the 21st Century. There are dangers in that eventuality that are well known and have been viewed in Human history many times in the past. A loyal opposition is a security requirement for any representative democracy and I still hope the GOP will come to the center in the next few decades if they can shed the reactionaries in the TEA Party.

Now back to Ms Kilcullen for moment. Many of you are aware that she was arrested and found guilty of a drunken attack on a police officer in the fall of 2010. She has also accused people of “hacking” her Facebook account. Kilcullen recently drew the ire of both Progressives and establishment GOP members in Broward when she sent an email detailing how the county GOP was being taken over by “gay thugs”.

We can expect more of this sort of infighting until the GOP cleans up its own house.

PROTESTS IN KIEV AND BANGKOK

I have been debating, I use that term loosely, Amazona at Blogs4Victory over the past few days about what course is right for America politically. I have been watching the events in both the Ukraine and in Thailand closely over the past few days in context with Amazona’s staunch conservative values. This leads me to clear conclusion, and trust me I am as shocked as you are that I have had this moment of clarity. I understand fully now what conservatives need to do to get their way politically in America. They must do what the Ukrainians and the Thais have done– take to the streets.

I understand that this is easier said than done. Americans in the past few decades have grown moribund in their desire to rock the boat politically in the form of mass protests. I large part of this is that protests in America are generally astroturfed events that are born in the minds of those who have too much political power already and far too much money to throw around. The TEA party has staged several events for politically profitable reasons just this year and the causes they “fought” for have been quickly forgotten and the right has moved on to their fallback positions of bigotry and pushing wealth up the hill to the 1% who care very little about the bottom 50%.

The left has done no better. The Occupy Wall Street movement too is less about informing voters or agitating than it is about shouting at the wall that is runaway capitalism and greed simply for greed’s sake. These things have to change in America no matter which side wins this major ideological war in American politics. Too much time is being wasted debating people like Amazona who while she admits that she was a Liberal in the halcyon days of her youth and admits as well that she had “bad experiences” and not invested in informing the American people that they actually have choices and don’t have to listen to the loudest voices shouting in the theater that is actually not on fire.

If America were as a ablaze as the conservatives believe it is things like the Knockout Game would be wider spread events instead of random acts of violence. Real issues like the constipation of the job market would be sources of outrage to both Liberals and Conservatives instead of brickbats they use to place blame. The goal really shouldn’t be who wins the grand debate about abortion, gay rights, gun control quantitative easing, the national debt or even what happened in Benghazi last year. The goal is to find a way to renew the power that the middle class held firmly in their graps for the better part of the 20th Century.

Now I know that sounds terribly nostalgic coming from a guy who regularly pounds conservatives over their desire for the good old days but in this case it fits. If the American Right wants to make their belief that America isn’t being run according to the Constitution they need to push away from their computers and smartphones and take to the streets. They need to cast off FreedomWorks and Rush Limbaugh and speak for themselves and let the rest of the nation hear their voices clearly. In doing this they do not need a united front but a united spirit like that being displayed today in the streets of Kiev and Bangkok. Only then will those in the political middle and the young take them seriously. A great man once said, “politics ain’t beanbag” and that witticism still rings true today.

In Hindsight
Personally, I doubt if people like Amazona are going to do this because in the end they don’t want life to be better for all Americans because the only people they feel are “true Americans” are those who share their wish to have more power than they deserve under the terms and conditions that they can accept because of their moral, religious or political beliefs. As a Progressive, I feel that if Americans have a bit more skin in the game, and if the wealthy were to dip their toe in the pool of wealth redistribution just a bit the government could back off a little and allow for a new age of technological prosperity unseen in the history of Terra. There is a lesson for everyone here– if you want change, real change, you have to willing to risk everything.

MY REPLY TO AMAZONA ON IRAN’S NUCLEAR AMBITION

Amazona,

I’m not ignoring anything that Iran has done or is planning to do but you are ignoring history. In America’s blind drive to get where it thought it would be in 2013 the American government overthrew m any governments. It is very likely you were alive when the US CIA overthrew the Mossadegh government in 1953 over the product of oil. This was okay because America wanted an ally in the region to fight communism and access to the petroleum riches in Persia. The return of the corrupt Pahlavis was the cause of the Iranian revolution just as America’s support for Bin Laden was the eventual cause of 9/11. None of that matters to you as a modern far right conservative you simply choose to ignore all of this history and fact because it doesn’t fit neatly into what your fathers thought the world would be today.

Ahmadinejad is no longer the President of Iran and I do not believe the ultimate goal of the Shi’a Iranian government is anymore unreasonable than the ideals held in the minds of religious Americans that they need an Israeli state to exist so that they can be raptured. Both are ridiculous and irrational notions especially when you consider that I am a Jew. My question is what happens to my people if your people are the “chosen ones?” The triumph of Christianity? The triumph of Islam? Why not the triumph of defeating poverty? Of defeating illness? Of defeating war with a triumph of Peace?

Mental patients can get guns in most places in the United States. This is one of the things that actually does make me angry about the state of my former country. I have to go back to the creeping fear that lies in the minds of the children of those men who could not stand a world that had men like Mossadegh and Allende in power and let’s not even mention Castro or this comment will get far to detailed for you to tolerate ideologically. You see communist and socialist aren’t slurs to me and never will be. I honestly do believe that America would be a better country if you solved problems with diplomacy and language vice shooting someone in the head even if that someone is your ex wife kids and dogs.

Laws are made, they should be made to better Society as a whole not to reinforce the beliefs of the majority. Those outside the majority have rights as well. You want guns to hunt? Fine You want guns to kill innocent people and steal from those who have more than you? Not so fine. I have no idea why guns are so important to Americans simply because a document says you can bear them. But, whatever, keep your guns and keep killing each other off because of divorce, or drugs or stupidity or the moral decay of inhumanity that creeps in to your mind when you realize you’ll never rise to be a second class citizen in a first class nation. Yes, I would take your guns away. Lucky for you I don’t make the rules. Yet.

So what makes your rights, sovereign, to have an arsenal or firearms any different from another nation wishing to have weapons either offensive or defense to protect their own national interests? Would you be keen on the idea of the Swiss determining that gun violence is a threat to global commerce and thereby demanding that China, France, England and Russia sit down with a delegation of American diplomats to figure out how to disarm the American people? Oh and let’s just throw in the sanction that would cripple America—no more oil imports until the problem is resolved. I bet you’d be crying from the top of your barn for green energy solutions then.

In Hindsight

I get that someone like you is appalled by the facts of my own social life and that I am not “ashamed” of what I am. Sorry for your bad luck in that because you are simply one Human Being among seven plus billion and your opinion while it counts out to several decimal places has no bearing in power on how I live my life nor should it. I work for Liberal ideals of Peace and Freedom not the Conservative ideals of Control and the Power that can be accumulated from that Control. The language of my homeland? Really? Why do you care? Who I sleep with? Why do you care if not to want to use it as an archaic means by which to shame a currency that is losing value more and more among the two demographics that conservatives can never win back in your dwindling lifetime—the young and women. It is you Amazona not me that is living in a fantasy world one driven by religion and ideas that have long since been cast aside in the new digital technological age. Sit down and talk to an 18 year old from a place with more people in their suburbs than you have in your county and you’ll see what America has become while you worshipped Reagan’s method and knew nothing of his means. That conversation will wipe the scales from even your eyes if you can put aside your fear long enough to listen.

WHY DO YOU NEED THE DEVIL WHEN YOU HAVE LIZ TROTTA?

I’ve heard some really stupid things come out of the mouths of overpaid pundits for this ideology or that over the last few years but this one from Liz Trotta at Breitbart.com really takes the cake. Trotta’s commentary states that since people don’t believe in the devil anymore society is just going to keep getting worse and worse. That really means that conservatives are going to keep losing culture war battles over things that the young people and moderates, you know the folks who really make the decisions about society in America, find fully acceptable. As you, loyal reader, know, I am a citizen in good standing, gainfully employed in the breathtaking capitol city of Hell, Dis.

If there’s one thing I know about, with a personal certainty it’s what the state of Old Scratch is. The tyrant who once ruled all twenty city-states of Hell, what you Living folks call the Afterlife on its own special plane of existence with its own cool new rule book, no longer exists having been cast into Oblivion just over 14 Terran standard years ago. Now I know there are conservatives and their most vitriolic bigoted fringe of white male Dominionists that will never accept that this is the case because it doesn’t play well with their end time needs. To them all I can say is sorry for your bad luck pal. Yet and still these people believe in talking snakes, talking fiery bushes and a rapture that isn’t even in the Bible but was made up nearly out of whole cloth in the 1830s. That aside for the moment at least I have to admit that Trotta is moving in the right direction when she says, “Our need to be shocked, though, has spiraled out of control, and death surrounds everyone, especially the children.” The thread is lost when she doesn’t go into why all the guns? Or why not decriminalize marijuana and cocaine? Or why do conservative pundits have to push the fear button every time? Instead Liz Trotta starts to whine and drone on about things in popular culture that she finds annoying or offensive. Liz Trotta does not care about what children see or do her job, her only job is to put a seed of fear in the minds of middle aged white men and women who already feel that the country they are living in is somehow less free, less safe and less prosperous simply because Barack Obama is president and his face is not white.

In Hindsight

This commentary by Trotta ought to be must see TV for every Progressive young person who gives any thought to what the real motivations of the Conservative movement are. I like the analogy that the GOP is on its way to becoming a “zombie party” having been infected with the TEA Party virus they are now running around foaming at the mouth like the crazed undead from the Resident Evil movie franchise. [Note to Milla Jovovich: I know these movies pay you a shitload of money but I’d really like to see you “act” again.–V.D.] The chief reason for the concentration of this virus among a single nearly homogeneous demographic is because of delivery systems like Liz Trotta. Why do moderates and Progressives not fall for this nonsense? Well for the most part we;ve built up and immunity to the Limbaugh strain, the Coulter strain and the Hannity strain after many years of constant exposure. But wait! There’s hope! For any conservatives out there hoping they could cure themselves of possibly save their children from becoming political zombies as well I hear a little drug called Reason works every time and has a double effect it relieves the symptoms of bigotry brought on out of anger that one is simply middle class and middle aged.
